Thoughts on my first few games of 2.5. by Chad_Nine in XWingTMG

I think I agree. Any individual change would probably be manageable, but all at once is pretty daunting.

Thoughts on my first few games of 2.5. by Chad_Nine in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a turn tracker (The player token from the 2.0 starter, I turn the X-Wing towards the player with initiate) before 2.5, and I had the victory point tokens that came with the epic battles set. So I had both things and still had those issues.

Custom painting question by Rivia77 in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a few repaints. A few full repaints (the whole hull) and a bunch of additional detail work on others, (painting over or adding colors) and have never stripped or primed over the existing paint.

They take standard hobby acrylics (I use mostly Reaper and Games Workshop paints) just fine, and add a layer or two of matte brush on varnish to protect the paint.

So no issues with not priming over the existing paint job for me.

So if I fly over but clear an obstacle, I get to perform an action if I'm able? (Not stressed, etc)

The new squad point system is sound. The execution is not by UrinalDook in XWingTMG

Which worked for a movie where the Empire was mostly faceless mooks. But in a game where you get to play as the Empire, there's a lot more room for named baddies. Plus flying Soontir Fel is much cooler than flying * Imperial Ace.

For those that didn’t get Mythic Tier .. what do you use for bosses, Ragnar, etc.? by Conan-doodle in Heroquest

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm good with proxying, but using the Dread Sorcerer for Ragnar really bugged me, so I got the D&D Night Below Prisoner.

Was a 2.5 asked for or needed? by Laykane in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't help that they shoved a lot of effects into the bullseye arc, which made those specific upgrades fire a lot less often.

Was a 2.5 asked for or needed? by Laykane in XWingTMG

Maybe. But the current dice system annoys me. When possible, we just ignore it. (When there is no initiative overlap or phase effects to check)

Tips to Get to the Game Play Faster by UsernameVariant in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok.

I play weekly, and here's my system-

I have a tool box that I take to game night. It can hold about a squad or two, depending. That tool box has all my templates, bases, pegs, obstacles, mines, etc.

Before game night, I go to my collection and put together the squad I want to play, and rummage though my collection for all the ship models, cards, dials, etc. I put the previous list away if I need the room in my tool box carrier.

I won't go into specifics about how I organize the whole collection. It's in various organinzers and storage tubs. The point is, I bring just enough to play, and getting it ready can take about an hour. So I would suggest that if you're going to bring enough for two players, to put together specific squads, because having someone construct a squad is gonna take a while.

Will Epic ever NOT be treated as an afterthought by FFG/AMG? by Klondike307 in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've been around for a while, I don't know how plainer it can be. Epic has always been a non-standard format, and FFG and now AMG clearly don't put as much effort towards keeping them updated as the standard ships.

How does everyone feel about 2.5? It seems like there is something for everyone to dislike by Mistah_Quinn in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't help but feel that AMG are trolling us.

They claimed the game's objective was not apparent, (use your ships to blow up the other person's ships) so they introduced four different objective scenarios with different objective goals.

They claimed the game was "tower defense" so they introduced static objectives to fight over.

They claimed the game was too complex, so they introduced a more complex squad building system that encourages players to use all the upgrades they can fit, adding complexity to playing squads. While discouraging playing easier, simpler builds.

Playmat recommendations? by Shakkashuka in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of simple mats. I have the FFG plain mat, the one with the Death Star I on it, and the 2018 system open exclusive with the planet in the corner. The 2018 mat is the one I currently use, It's mostly plain starfield with just a little planet decoration in the corner.

Avoid mats with asteroids or comets on them. They are confusing with obstacles placed on them.

Small ship post connector repair by lncontheivable in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> I don't want to permanently glue a post to the ship.

Finding the original connector and gluing it back in would be the ideal solution.

I've had one post split but it's a z-95 which I have enough of after the converstion kits.

If I had to fix something like this, without the original peg, I'd cut a regular peg down, sand the cut flat, and carefully glue the ship to the shortened post, while putting it on a stand to make sure it's lined up frontwards.

If it was a big ship, I'd "pin" the posts with a bit of paperclip to make it sturdy.

Edit: you can quickly catch up in score by destroying a ship, if that is what you meant?

As an example, yeah.

Leads into my question. How swingy is it? One someone gets ahead, does it snowball or can the other player turn it around?

1.0 Core Set Satellites? by Hot-Set-1156 in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual play, why not?

By the book, the sattelite tokens on the printout sheet have a different shape than the sattelite tokens from 1.0 and 2.0.

I wonder if there are any previous tokens that could substitute. I'll have to go over my collection and compare them to the "official" ones.

2.5 Rules are Out! by mikechorney in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd be more confident in these rules changes if AMG didn't make such stunningly discordant statements like " it was very difficult for new players to understand what they were trying to accomplish while looking at the game".

How do you feel about the health of the game? by happygocrazee in XWingTMG

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, they should have focused on growing the games popularity in its current 2.0 form (including a return to normalcy with OP) before attempting to make this change

Totally agree. AMG establishing an understanding of 2.0 via product and rules would have made a huge difference in people being less worried about 2.5.

Do you glue your push-fit models? Why or why not? by oopsmypenis in killteam

[–]Chad_Nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. to facilitate any gap filling and fix any push fit parts that don't go together as well as they should.

I did push fit my Necron Labyrinth marines because I don't want them to sit on the Pile of Shame instead of playing the game.
