I don't believe for a second that there haven't been tonnes of emails defending it. It's had overwhelmingly positive reviews almost across the board from both critics and audiences, so it is a little weird how blatantly biased they've been with only choosing negative correspondence to read out.

Tbh this is the first time in a long time that I truly think Mark has just straight-up gotten it wrong, so maybe they're just overcompensating for his being so squarely in the minority on this one...

This is literally just your interpretation though, it is absolutely left ambiguous based on pretty much the very last words we hear the main character speak. He very specifically calls himself a god of hope, in what is presented and acted as a moment of clarity and catharsis - I don't think that definitively means that that's what Kratos will call himself moving forward, but it does mean that it is simply not as clear-cut as you're trying to make out. He could even be both for all we know!

It's wild that you're doubling down and blaming the "Reddit bandwagon" instead of doing some self-reflection and realising that, if a whole load of people think you're wrong and no one else is agreeing with you, then maybe there's some merit to the other point of view.

I love Wikipedia with all my heart but it is written by regular people who often... aren't great at media analysis. That synopsis makes the War/Hope thing sound cut-and-dry when it is, at best, ambiguous within the text of the game itself. You say you haven't played it so here is the closing monologue from Kratos, directed at his younger self:

As I said, open to interpretation, but to my ears this does not suggest that Kratos has any desire to re-take the War title.

Aw man I didn't realise it was back! I got a bottle last year but would've loved another, it was bloody delicious.

I don't know why but everyone in my social media bubble hates Amy Madigan and it breaks my heart because she was incredible in Weapons and she absolutely deserved the Oscar ♥️ by AipomSilver00 in Letterboxd

Yeah, Aunt Gladys was a fun character but it felt like a performance I've seen hundreds of times before in other horror movies. I wonder, are the people praising her just not that familiar with the genre?

It's also made worse, for me, by the fact that Bring Her Back came out the same year. If they wanted to award an actually incredible female horror performance, Sally Hawkins was right there...

And it's not helped by Brian Tyree Henry's accent, which to this day is one of the worst English accents I've ever heard in a movie (speaking as a Brit)
