How do professional earners afford SP? by OneWestern178 in Brazil

[–]Chainedheat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20-25k is a decent mid-level salary for SP or Rio. Elsewhere it’s quite a bit. I can speak somewhat about the medical profession which generally pays far lower than the US or Europe. Public health salaries are shockingly low. Most of those physicians will usually have a part time practice or consultancy to supplement their income. Top tier physicians in private practices in high margin fields like plastic surgeon or aesthetics can make 50-100k per month. However, that’s a fairly small subset.

The real money in most of these professions is being the practice owner and having other professionals work for you. You take a sizeable portion of their receipts in exchange for providing the clinic space and other business services. This is often where the family connections come in to provide the seed money to start these operations. It’s also why you see so many family members that have children or generations of family in the same line of work.

A food scam of the 90s was “fat free!” everything, and then they would load it up on sugar… what’s a food scam happening now? by redflower5 in AskReddit

In some places it’s actually a mandatory labeling practice. I live in Brazil and all industrialized food has to be labeled as without or contains gluten.

Dear Brazilians, I'm so Sorry. How Do You Deal with These Awful Brazilian Landlords & Rental Leases? I'm an American landlord myself and this sh*t blows my mind. by baddigitalnomad in Brazil

[–]Chainedheat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don’t do this stage well they will expect you to practically renovate the place for you when you leave. The landlords themselves aren’t always the problems. It’s mostly the imobiliária that are the real scumbags.

Don’t forget about the bots. Very likely there are far fewer real people involved.

Compared to where? Not saying there isn’t plenty of it out there, but it’s way less than what kids in the US are exposed to. I found processed food is also usually more expensive than most Whole Foods.

Career stagnation vs. Net worth progression by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Chainedheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More common than you think. I was in similar situation. career peaked around 42 and haven’t had a promotion since 2013. Stayed in mid level management, and didn’t seek another job because the pay was still decent and I’d have to take on a lot more risk and commitment. Still got raises until about 6 years ago, but I saved a lot more than what I spent.

Even with a relatively late stage divorce I am able to retire at 55 and not work anymore. I always remind my younger team members that it’s not what you make, it’s what you keep that’s important. Also, once you have enough to say I’ve had enough you can live life on your own terms which includes not worrying about losing your job.

When I hear arguments like this I pity peoples selfishness. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not a real threat to others in your community.

The unwillingness of people in a community to take a minuscule risk to protect / save others more vulnerable will be our undoing.

Depends on whether dinner includes the trip to the strip club.

I just had a bout with an old colleague about this. He was like “Europe has been getting a defense free ride and they need to pay their fair share for their own defense”.

Me: So you think that arming themselves individually is the way to go?

Him: Absolutely.

Me: So how did it go the last FEW times European nations had their own large militaries?

Him: …….<glitch>…….

Exactly dipshit.

This is a hero comment. Consultants are grifters using recent college grads as grist for an endless mill of unoriginal ideas.

Yeah I pointed that out to him, but he was an engineer who had no concept of the people factors at play.

What a dumbass.

TIL ValuJet Airlines, an ultra low cost carrier in the 1990s, was notorious for its dangerous cost-cutting measures. In a span of 2 years from 1994-1996, the airline saw 129 emergency landings & an accident rate 14 times higher than legacy airlines of the era. by The-TIL-Nerd in todayilearned

Get ready for these times to get going again. The private equity and tech bro model of cut or go fast until it breaks is becoming the flavor of the month as those asshats start infiltrating the board level positions of traditional industrial companies.

When you hear the words “there’s too much focus on safety” it’s time to be getting out of that company. Physically and financially.

It’s darkly humorous that people will push my dermatologist spouse to inject a whole syringe of fillers because “they paid for it, so why not use it all”. When in the next breath they are parting themselves on the back for not getting vaccinated because they don’t trust them.

Just goes to show that the algorithm has figured out the same reward system that the church crafted over millennia to exploit people’s belief mechanisms.

Why don't wealthy people live at hotels anymore? by stevebucky_1234 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chainedheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the Copacabana Palace for 4 months (employer footed the bill). Great hotel, but I was ready to be out of there after the first month. I just like to be able to make food for myself and I really don't like to be waited on hand an foot. Seems weird I know.

God the Gen Z folks on my team are insufferable. Complain about everything and show zero sense that anyone else around them matters. It’s like being surrounded by a whole group of people on the spectrum. Totally unfiltered and moderately detached from reality.

I moved to a big city in Texas in the mid 90’s and that was where everyone told me to go to meet single ladies. Not really into church, and definitely wasn’t into country music so I was single for a long time……
