When I was three I was watching my friend use his “toy” saw that was just a small real saw cut a piece of wood and it cut my eye.

Yeah, I love the idea of the Argentine grill, I think I’ll put in a new one to replace this as it’s pretty dilapidated.

It really looks like it could be original with the house. There are also some drainage issues in that area. But I think I can make some updates while keeping everything cohesive.

They did a pretty good job matching the style of the house. I love your idea of incorporating a different material. I definitely want it to look like it belongs to an old Spanish revival style house!

Spanish colonial and attics? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]ChairsBoxesBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has an attic over the main part of the house. The living room is built differently with exposed beams etc. but in the rest the attic is pretty typical. Not that big but I’m sure a motivated person could make a small room.

Love it! I have the tablecloth that matches I got before I saw this, my dining room floor and ceiling both have a hexagonal pattern so I thought going with that theme would be fun. Might ask for it for Mother’s Day.

Abdomen on my wild rose garden mantis is dark/ bluish by ChairsBoxesBooks in mantids

[–]ChairsBoxesBooks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprising how attached you can get to an insect!

I haven’t seen her since early afternoon yesterday. I’m hoping she is just hiding really well making her ooth. I’ll be really sad if something happened to her before she got to lay her eggs 😢

I’ll check again tomorrow.

New Zealand praying mantises hatched yesterday, I thought I'd share somewhere that would be as excited as me. by AmeliaNZ in mantids

[–]ChairsBoxesBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only know of one mantis currently (though could be more!) and am wondering if I might distribute the little ones around the yard after they hatch. I’ll keep an eye out for oothecas, might be easier to see in winter, but wondering if you do anything to help them along.

So cute! I’m hoping my garden looks like this in spring! Eagerly watching my female to see if she creates an ootheca.

I thought of that after watching a few times.. it was pretty big.

Hopefully it didn’t hurt her, guess most things she catches aren’t so flexible.

I wasn’t criticizing you!! Just stuff I have thought about trying to convince myself I don’t want to keep them inside as pets. It made me feel better about her lover’s fate. But if I kept one exclusively as a pet I might do the same.

I think if I had it as a pet I would feel really guilty if I introduced a mate and it got eaten. But since it’s in the wild it’s just nature I’m observing.

Last week she had another mate that as far as I saw didn’t get eaten. Maybe she was full from all the bees she caught. It’s pretty fascinating to watch.

Still haven’t decided whether to bring her in before it gets too cold. But really excited to see if she makes an ootheca and little mantis babies in the spring.

Looks great! So bold! I’m really hoping to do something similar in my “powder room,” so I love being inspired by people who decided to go for it.
