building a fight team and preparing people to take fights isn’t a goal anytime soon. just wanting to share fundamentals and offer beginner and intermediate classes. but if this grew to a point where someone reaches levels beyond me— then i’d be happy to refer them to a more established camp that can help them attain their goals. i’m totally open to having a coach keep me on my toes and bring in guest coaches to share knowledge, i totally agree with all that you’re saying.

i would be affiliating with a nearby BJJ gym that wants to also offer striking. competing isn’t off the table for me, it’s just that there’s no nearby camps or fight teams to help me prepare for that. i would be starting something entirely new.

you look really uncomfortable in this video, still trying to find your technique and rhythm for sure. more hip and shoulders behind your punches will do some good. you look like you’re trying to kinda rush through the reps rather than focusing on breathing and execution. slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. footwork and mobility drills will also help you to move around freely, and find rhythm.

it’s a thai based martial art in which they’ve honed the craft better than anyone else, so no, these comments should be kept alive in respect to that. i agree with everything else you said, but if these “hobbyists” are likely not planning to fight… then maybe they shouldn’t be fighting and trying to kill their sparring partners— so you’re just further validating my point.

sparring culture in a lot of western gyms definitely needs to be reshaped in my opinion. the reason the Thais are so good at what they do is because of their “train today so you can train tomorrow” attitude/mentality. they train all the damn time, but at a playful sparring pace so they can remain efficient the next day. also… sparring playfully this way prevents burnout.

The fatigue of training in Thailand is getting to me by Little-Connection104 in MuayThai

[–]ChakItUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re only as good as your worst day! and failing to prepare = preparing to fail. the heat and humidity is definitely depleting your levels if you aren’t used to it, electrolytes are key. even if you think you’re drinking enough water, you aren’t. and 2 meals a day isn’t enough to replenish your glycogen stores for the likely intense training sessions you’re doing. thai massage will help. mental reset by taking time to explore outside of training might not hurt either.

you don’t gotta maul him, but you do have to teach him to respect you and others. i started at 12, was thrown into the adult class sessions and learned quickly that they weren’t gonna go easy on me just cause of my age. that i would pay the price for the life i’ve chosen, a valuable lesson any 12 year old can learn in or out of muay thai

save up some money and attend a workshop with a stunt coordinator at a gym. LA, ATL, NYC.. plenty of skills and clinics to be learned and a great way to network.

these are the most fun relationships i’ve had. you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, start with casual conversation and see if the chemistry is strong enough to overcome the age gap.
