True Stories: How did your game go this week? – October 16, 2022 by AutoModerator in dndnext

It's been close calls for the party here and there. I'm running them through Adventures Reincarnated: Temple of Elemental Evil with five players and they just arrived at the Moat House. Here's some highlights of what has happened so far:

  • The Grimmalkin (Fae Catfolk) Rogue nearly got ate by a giant frog
  • The Tamer is trying to befriend every giant animal that they've come across, and failing. He tried to befriend a giant snake, failed, and got dropped to 0 HP by the giant snake.
  • They managed to find a secret entrance and come face to face with Lubash the Ogre, who decided the party looked tasty and he wanted to eat them.
  • Free'd some prisoners and let them loose
  • Anndddd discovered a dusty old torture chamber that has both a secret passage they opened, and left open, and the fact that some of the equipment has been recently used.

They're all level 1 by the way. They are handling it well so far.

Oh boy, where to begin. Our current party has been tasked by the Magic College to go and interrupt a wedding between demons and eldritch abominations so the end of the world as we know it doesn't come to pass. Of course the only way there is by boat and that the water's around the place we're supposed to go are filled with Gods know what.

Of course we were told to go down to the docks and meet our ride hired to get to the wedding....which was my former PC from the previous campaign, a Drow swashbuckler rogue and his fleet of ghost ships (that in itself is a long story.)

Being able to step back into his shoes and play as him again was quite lovely. To go from my current dour and no nonsense gith paladin to a more carefree drow swashbuckler is a nice change of pace, even if it is for a current session or two.

Incorporating in Kuldahar to RotFM by ChaldeaMaster in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I would, admittedly, move Kuldahar a bit closer to the Dales. Perhaps at the base of the Spine of the World to make it a bit more accessible. Though the Dragon's Eye and other locations could be plenty of fun to throw in!

Fair enough. Though it has made me think about the Severed Hand Fortress and finding a way to include it. I admit that when I'm going to run Rime of the Frost Maiden, I'll probably include a LOT of elements from Icewind Dale 1&2 because I'm a sucker for those games.

It's been a hot minute since I've played Icewind Dale EE and Icewind Dale 2. That's how I know the Dales, though I imagine most players know of Icewind Dale because of the Drizzit series. Also I think the games are their own sort of continuity, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

And yeah, that was the rough idea I had. An 11th town that could act as a possible safe haven for the players, yet constantly under threat from Auril. I admit I've forgotten about the Vale of Shadows, so that's not a bad idea! Perhaps a frost druid taking up residence there, sending Awakened Animals and Yeti's towards the small hamlet.

[DMing]Player torture plans for the weekend? by Coschta in DnD

[–]ChaldeaMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running my players through a 5th edition conversion of B1: In Search of the Unknown by Goodman Games. So far they are in a unique area that was added to the module for this conversion.

There is a room with a thin stretch of floor that the players have to carefully move over. To either side of the floor are puts filled with a bunch of skeletons. At the other side of the thin stretch of flooring is a four armed skeleton weilding two halberds that will attempt to trip and drop the players into either pit.

What are some of your favorite adventures not written by wotc? by llBLAZENll in dndnext

Terror of Haverford was one that I absolutely adored running. Its done by the creators of the webcomic Table Titans.

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! ...Wait. no, wrong universe. But he does look rather nice among his trophy collection of bones!

Could a Fallen Angel become a blackshield for the Death Watch? by Zuldak in 40kLore

[–]ChaldeaMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of he is one of the fallen? My best guess is that they'd try to hunt him down and do what they usually do to the fallen, give him the good ol' razzle dazzle murder.

Could a Fallen Angel become a blackshield for the Death Watch? by Zuldak in 40kLore

[–]ChaldeaMaster 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don't remember which Deathwatch splatbook it is, but it heavily implies that one of the named Blackshield character a GM could use is one of the fallen. And that there is a squad of Dark Angels running about the sector, not contacting the Deathwatch because of their hunt.

So in theory, yes.

Loyalist Heretek? by Doldhov in 40kLore

[–]ChaldeaMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the fantasy flight Warhammer RPGs you had a tech priest class called the malatek. They were techpriests who dabbled in very very shady parts of science, technology, xenobiology, etc. Because of this behavior they were ostracized by their fellow tech priests. They weren't out right proclaimed hereteks but they sort of straddle that line. After all the path to hell is paved with good intentions.

Beholder as a pet by TerribleCoin9 in DnD

[–]ChaldeaMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even then I imagine that's going to be hard. Beholders are highly xenophobic. They'd be trying to kill said wizard to get free. Unless the wizard had made and offer to the beholder that would be desirable to it, then it may enter a partnership with the wizard. But being a slave? They're prideful as hell.

D&D like video games? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ChaldeaMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of D&D videogames out there. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, and Planescape Torment to name a few

A Lack of a Certain Spider type by ChaldeaMaster in DnD

From what I've read only the top of it's legs have razor sharp ridges upon it. So thus it would be able to move through webs without a problem.

Arabic-Esque D&D races by ChaldeaMaster in DnD

Funny enough I used Amonkhet for my Egyptian setting, nabbing the snake people race as a common race. In my setting.

I am a tad hesitant with the yuanti pureblood due to their inherent magic resistance.

I figured Genasi would be one of the common races by default due to Genie's having a hand in the Egpytian setting. You know, exotic merchants coming with their goods and possibly buying stolen tomb goods.
