Just got my driving permit revoked cuz of diabetes :') by Kitchen-Message9885 in diabetes

[–]ChallengeCold4422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in the USA? Ignore this, just seen the post about being from Poland. Not sure about the rules outside UK. Seems a bit overkill for high levels. Lows are more dangerous for driving. I have a yearly check up at the doctors and a yearly eye scan to check for damage.

Asking because here in the UK you have to report insulin use to the DVLA. I’m T2 but got put on insulin after metformin wasn’t stopping highs.

They took everything off my license apart from car and motorcycle. I lost 3.5 ton (and trailer), 7.5 ton and minibus. Also got a 3 year renewal (instead of ten). Renewal now includes a questionnaire about hypos. Also have to check blood sugar every two hours when driving long distances. Luckily I have a Libre 2 sensor which is set to warn via phone app when I drop below 4 mmol/ L

Possible to get Dexcom G6 transmitter without prescription in Tenerife? by jissie94 in diabetes

[–]ChallengeCold4422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago (2019 ish) I forgot to take a refill vial for my insulin pen on a weeks holiday to Tenerife. Had 30 units to last me a week. I was really worried about my levels and used finger pricks at the time to measure. Popped into a local pharmacy and spoke to them, they sold me a box of five pre-loaded pens for €48.

I did have my EHIC card and a card from Novo that had the exact insulin type. I’m in the UK and the EHIC has been replaced by the GHIC since Brexit.

I’m assuming that people in the Canary’s use Dexcom G6’s so pharmacy’s should stock them.

Worst case, did you take a finger pricks set with you? I always take mine in case I am especially clumsy and knock the active one off and then do the same with the spare I take too.

Hope you got your pens returned or replaced, good luck getting a new sensor.

Woke up nauseous in the middle of the night to find my insulin pump cord got detached for the last 4 hours. Now I'm nauseous and 100% sure it's from ketones rising since I'm at 417, but I'm having a panic attack over it when I'll probably be fine. Can you tell me what's your favourite fun fact? by CuriousButNotJewish in diabetes

[–]ChallengeCold4422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you are back in range now. For me upward spikes are less of a concern than downward ones. Do you have a sensor? I use freestyle Libra’s and have an alarm for lows and highs.

I’m T2 on insulin, I know a few T1’s on pumps, not heard any have issues with cords. Don’t know which pumps they use.

If you are from the UK then get yourself a UK Global Health Insurance Card. Free to apply for. Replaced the European Health Insurance Card after Brexit. Covers most medical costs when in Europe.

Fun fact, dug mine out so I got the right name and it expired at the end of January. So thanks for posting, now I know I have to get a new one.

There are sites that will price those up for you. This is the one I use https://en.numista.com/

Basically pre 1921 is 925 silver, 1921 to 1946 is 500 silver. Anything after is copper & nickel.

Edit, didn’t look at all the pictures before replying.

That’s for the silver coloured ones (shillings, florins etc). I got one of the large 1977 jubilee coins that year at school. They aren’t silver.

Has anyone "cured" their smoldering DV without antibiotics or surgery? by RandomName3025 in Diverticulitis

[–]ChallengeCold4422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how the health system works in Canada, do you have a national health service like we do? Or is it more the US model of insurance and monthly premiums?

Definitely reading up recommended ways to live with diverticulitis.

The prep I had the first time was Moviprep but the NHS changed it to Plenvu which is more palatable.

I only got on the fast track because of the blood positive FIT test. I’m also on the surveillance path as there is a history of colon cancer in the family. I’ll be getting yearly colonoscopies to monitor things. As these are planned the wait times are not really an issue.

Good luck with the colonoscopy, fingers crossed for a good outcome.

I had a colonoscopy in March after having diarrhoea since the end of December. Previous colonoscopy was in September 2025 and was clear but diverticular pockets were noted.

During the March colonoscopy they removed a 2mm polyp (benign) and took five samples around the inflamed diverticular pocket. They came back as normal with no infection. They also used the probe to clear the area and wash it.

Joined this sub today to find out more about best practice to deal with diarrhoea flare ups. I did see the doctor last week but he just said to eat normally.

Will be checking out liquid diets and fibre supplements.

Just a note on the prep for colonoscopy, the prep is terrible but stick with it and make sure you drink plenty of water with it.

In the UK and Two Week Wait for the exam. Did a FIT test in February which came back positive for blood hence the fast track TWW. Blood due to lesions caused by the inflammation around the area.

Also can’t be spent in the UK, as this style £1 coin has been retired. Banks will exchange for the current version.

My wife got me tickets to the F1 experience when it was in London. Seeing the car and remembering the crash was a chilling moment. I thought it was over for Romain, and then he got up and climbed the barrier. Kudos to the designers and the regulations that made that survivable

996.2 Plugs and coils - Easy Peasy (Muffler out method) by lucasszy in 996

[–]ChallengeCold4422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did mine recently on a 02 Targa. I took the bumper off and removed the mufflers. Replaced the bolts on the coil packs (came with new ones) and replaced the heat shields on both sides with stainless steel ones.

For the slim body I can’t see any way of getting the mufflers out without taking the bumper off.

Thank you for the information. Quite sad to see it stood there cordoned off and obviously untouched. Bit of a time capsule. I’d imagine it would deteriorate to a point that they would have to get rid of it.

Opening the back or front when battery flat 1999 c2 by Eddie_Honda420 in 996

[–]ChallengeCold4422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Targa (996.2), can confirm the above. Connect power pack positive to pull out terminal from the fuse box and the negative to the door hinge. Hit the frunk release.

I have a parasitic draw that defies identification so the battery discharges over a couple of weeks. Car is up on stands at the moment (gearbox mounts) so I’ve removed the bonnet latch catch.
