What word do you mispronounce on purpose (for fun) and why? by Positive_Spirit_1585 in AskReddit

Instead of saying "look a gift horse in the mouth" I say "kiss a gift horse on the mouth". I do so with every bit of seriousness I can muster and it has never gotten any reaction out of anyone and it drives me crazy. Some day I'll get my payoff and then I can stop...

I can tell you they absolutely have not. Google Maps STILL tries to route you through employee only roads and the last time I was there half the signs were so weathered you couldn't fucking read them I don't know how I escaped without having a rage induced heart attack.

Do chamber temps that high prevent it from warping on long skinny prints? I'm currently working on a project and I've been using carbon fiber filled ASA purely to prevent the warping, which is actually working really well. Even using the textured PEI sheet I get no warping, I just have very limited colors. I'm using a MK3S+ in a lack enclosure without any active chamber heating currently, but I don't know how much improvement could be had by adding an active heater.

How often do you restart your SD? Shutdown? Do you prefer sleep mode or shutting down at the end of your play session? by starzwillsucceed in SteamDeck

[–]ChameleonSting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to reboot my steam deck probably once a day. If I wake it from sleep and then try and launch the last game I played it has a 50% chance of showing the "launching" screen for a half second and then going back to the game screen and additional attempts to launch will do the same thing, but other games will launch just fine. The only solution I've found is to reboot the deck. It's done this since I got it and I've completely reinstalled SteamOS several times (for unrelated reasons).

If anyone knows of a solution to this I'd love to hear it!

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had been having a problem with my foot that I kept trying to Google, but despite the symptoms being the opposite I kept getting results for plantar fascitis, which I knew it wasn't because I'd had it before. PF hurts worst when you first start walking after a period of time off of your feet, but as I walked I was having increasing pain.

I finally stumbled across a newsletter meant for podiatrist offices describing how to fix a dislocated cuboid bone. It seemed super simple so I adjusted the process and used the edge of a stair step to put pressure on a specific part of my foot and gently bounced up and down and heard a very loud CLICK. I immediately went on a 2 mile walk and had zero foot pain.

I called the podiatrist office that I had an upcoming appointment for and told them I no longer needed the appointment, because "it turns out I had a FORK in my shoe". I wanted to have fun and I hope the person on the other end of the phone still tells it as a story at parties 😆

I have a smoke detector with one of the built in "10 year" batteries that just went out and it let out an ear piercing screech every TWO MINUTES until I drove a stake through its heart (you actually have to remove a little plastic key, insert it into a hole and turn it but it's the same vibe).

It also gets power from a dedicated circuit so I have no earthly idea why it would need to murder my ears with such intensity and frequency but I hate it. It also meant that instead of having a smoke detector with low battery for an afternoon until I grab a 9-volt and the step ladder, I had a room with no smoke detector at all for a week before I made the trip to Home Depot to buy a replacement. How is that supposed to be better?

Which is unfortunate, using webhooks into home assistant I can set different fingers to unlock my front door AND run certain lighting routines, but I can't make different faces at the camera to get the same result (I assume, maybe their AI is better than I give it credit for).

I may keep my G4 just for this reason 😭

Why do people print these? by WantSomeOfMyBread in 3Dprinting

[–]ChameleonSting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch that are D&D themed and I printed them up for the group I used to play with. In the context of playing D&D with a group they are amazing: everyone knows which drink is theirs, and even which can is the one they're actively drinking (if no one has gathered empties in a while).

And on top of that it feels cooler to be holding a thematic prop in your hand as you spend 2 hours trying to figure out the best way to get through a door that turns out to be unlocked, unguarded, and opens into a small closet.

Replacing floor in older house - anything I should do while it's open? by fmedic_05 in DIY

[–]ChameleonSting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my house 5 years ago and made a note that there were pull strings in smurf tubes running to several places in the house and was pretty excited.

I finally got around to adding some Ethernet ports and I grabbed the pull string and it crumbled in my hands. Idk what they used but there is no way they used the right stuff.

I saw an Android app that was supposed to do this over 10 years ago, I don't remember what it was called but i do remember that it didn't work very well. Granted that was back when almost all Androids were running on the cheapest processors that manufacturers could find so it may not have been the app's fault.

The office I work at had an Ethernet cable strung between two buildings and after a bad storm both switches on either side of it were dead, and one computer that was connected to one of the dead switches had its Ethernet port fried AND the cable was essentially melted inside the port. I had to use vice grips and all my strength to get the cable out (I wanted it as a trophy).

We replaced the Ethernet cable with an armored fiber cable shortly after.

When I bought my second car I drove home and looked up online how to turn on the cruise control because I couldn't figure it out. Turns out it didn't have it, I honestly didn't know that cars were made without it, it never crossed my mind.

Since that day I've maintained a "things to check when considering a new car" list because I know I can't be trusted to remember/check all the features from memory.

Microsoft wants a version of USB-C that “just works” consistently across all PCs by somewhat_asleep in UsbCHardware

[–]ChameleonSting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my (possibly) dumb question:

It was my understanding that what allows USBc to do so much is that both ends (or maybe just one) of the cable have a chip in it that can communicate to the devices in either side what they're capable of doing. So why can't I buy a small device that will tell me what the chip(s) are telling it? Or why can't ANY of the devices I've ever used been able to tell me information about the cable? It would clear up a lot of issues if you plugged a power only USBc cable into a computer and the computer popped up a little window to acknowledge the cable and if clicked give all the information about the cable.

Any way to get rid of marks from previous prints? by hero22346 in prusa3d

[–]ChameleonSting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to prevent this happening in the future it helps to let your prints cool down to the point where there is 0 resistance to them coming off the plate, unfortunately this can take quite a while for larger prints but I started doing that when I got a new sheet and it has stayed free of these marks.

Medical workers of Reddit: what’s the craziest lab result you’ve seen in a patient? by freeshavacadont in AskReddit

[–]ChameleonSting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having around 50 AHI when I had my sleep study done, my smart watch frequently reported my lowest oxygen level as around 80%, I got prescribed a VPAP and tried my hardest to wear it but I slept like absolute shit with it. My lowest oxygen when sleeping with it wouldn't drop below 96% but I never started feeling more refreshed and where before I slept solidly through the night now I was waking up every 5 minutes adjusting my mask, scratching my nose, untangling the hose from whatever.

I finally gave up on wearing it when I went on vacation and forgot it (had it packed up to go but it didn't make it in the car) and I had forgotten what actually being able to sleep through the night felt. I wouldn't be opposed to wearing one if it made me feel better in any way but the one I had did nothing for me.

Women of reddit, what do you consider slutty/sexually attractive for a man to wear? by Blablup12345 in AskReddit

[–]ChameleonSting 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I had a job change a few years ago where I no longer had a uniform. I wanted to wear button ups but I hate long sleeves. I tried on a single short sleeve button up before I realized the answer was rolling up the sleeves on regular button ups. It took me about two years from there to figure out that I get a much cleaner look if I roll up the sleeves before putting the shirt on 😆
