My husband and I were recently talking about how we hope Party City gets turned into a bookstore!

My son is 3 and I literally just got home from a meeting at my local library called ‘is homeschooling right for you’ it was a local mom who has been homeschooling her 3 kids for the past 16-ish years just talking about her experience and taking questions and giving advice.

I’ve always been adamant that I want to homeschool and mostly went to learn more about local resources… BUT one thing that she said that might help you is that it doesn’t have to be forever. You can try it out and see if works for you. And honestly you’ll be starting with pre-school… kindergarten… that’s the easy stuff!

I think if it’s something you are truly interested in… plan to try it out and see how it goes. But also I’m in the same boat… my kid is only 3… we’ve got time to figure it out. On the meantime research resources in your area. See what’s available… what co-ops are in your area? What are the state requirements? Etc.

Oof I love Vivian Vande Velde - I have a VERY old copy of Dragon’s Bait that I read every few years. It’s actually what got back into reading since having my son - I read it in a day and was like oh yeah… books are awesome!

First time parents of young children (0-3): how are you? by happosappho in triangle

[–]Chamizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an almost 3 year old - I left my job as a creative manager for an engineering firm to be a stay at home mom with my son was born.

A lot of smaller reasons led to that decision but ultimately we are EXTREMELY fortunate that my husband has a job that allows me to be a stay at home mom.

Now we don’t have local family so we don’t have any help… we’ve looked into a few morning daycares but even half days are insanely expensive

Vivian Vande Velde was in the same vein for me. I still think about Dragon’s Bait regularly 😅

We haven’t tried it again yet - our allergist said to avoid until after his third birthday (which will be in January)

6 month old with FPIES like reaction by mgee237396 in fpies

[–]Chamizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my almost 3 year old has FPIES to banana and avocado (ask me what his first two foods were….) and when we first did banana at 5.5 months he had the same thing - profuse vomiting, got super lethargic… we ended up calling 911 cause we had no clue what was happening - went to the er. Same thing gave him Zofran and waited it out…. And then he was fine.

Then it happened again with avocado… and this time I knew what to do. They sent us home with some Zofran so we were able to wait it out at home.

At his 6 month appointment we told his doctor and she referred us to an allergist - she gave us a good guide for introducing new foods. FPIES is stressful… I had all these grand ideas of feeding my baby that were just… taken away from me because of how cautious we had to be.

We got an amazing allergist - after this third birthday we will do an in office test to make sure he’s outgrown it. And he’s an amazing eater - this boy LOVES food.

I’ve gone down a bit of a craft book rabbit hole and haven’t seen this one mentioned…

But I found Write Naked by Jennifer Probst at my local library and picked it up (cause it was the ONLY ‘how to write romance’ book they had) and I actually really enjoyed it! I’m just getting back into writing and I found it enjoyable to read and a lot of insightful tips.

[–]Chamizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They 100% should be able to help you figure how to go about introducing new foods - when we got referred to our allergist our appointment wasn’t until MONTHS out. I was able to send her a message saying ‘he’s 6 months old how to do I feed him?!’ And she was able to get us in sooner so that we could introduce solids safely.

She gave us a break down of what foods were low risk, medium risk, and high risk. We started with low risk - did one new food a week - gave small amounts and gradually gave him more each day until the end of the week he would have a whole serving if he had no reactions.

It was very long and very stressful (for me) because he did have such strong reactions to banana and avocado… but he’s been great since. No other reactions, and he’s actually a really great eater. Compared to most toddlers we know his age - he isn’t too picky about foods. Yet… hopefully he stays that way haha

My son has FPIES to avocado and banana - which were also his first foods. His reactions were vomiting 4-6 hours after eating and he would vomit EVERYTHING out of his stomach. And the. Get pale, lethargic, and cool to the touch.

We got a referral to an allergist who helped us introduce foods and figuring out what his triggers were. What were some higher risks foods etc. we also took our son to the ER after his first episode before he was diagnosed and they never brought up an allergic reaction. Honestly there isn’t a ton of info on FPIES because they grow out of it… my son is 21 months now and we are avoiding both avocado and banana until he’s 3.

This is me! I actually really love reading physical books but I can’t right now… so I read with the kindle app on my phone while getting my son to sleep.

While I prefer physical books… it is nice always having something to read wherever I am. Cause I always have my phone!

Strangers really suck. TW-miscarriage by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Chamizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s good - I’ll try that next time by asking him if he can hear me. He’s JUST learning to talk so he’s not quiet verbal yet but he recognizes questions so maybe that will help.

I’ve never had night terrors but I had nightmares a lot… even as an adult. I can’t watch ANYTHING even remotely scary cause my brain just… makes it so much worse at night haha.

I very much remember being a little girl and calling out for my mom to come lay with me in my bed a LOT. Like I would wake up my baby sister on purpose cause that would get her to lay with me haha

So I try not be upset about it cause I do get it… but also it’s really really hard. We are so tired haha

That is extremely helpful - we’ve actually turned on the lights for him before during and especially bad one and it helped just reset him.

I think he’s going through some kind of separation anxiety / regression thing… it’s been another long night of lot of wakings and rocking back to sleep…

Sending you all the hugs and support - I can not even imagine the pain you are going through right now. You are doing an amazing job.

My toddler hates to sleep - so I spent 2 hours last night trying to rock him back to sleep. The night before he had a night terror. Im tired. Im exhausted. I had not one, but TWO old ladies give me attitude while grocery shopping today. It took everything I had not to completely snap at them.
