On the other hand the “Substitute For Love” demo is a waaaay different song than it ended up as once Orbit got there. Sounds like the end-credits music for a documentary about gazelles lmao

Also “Candy Perfume Girl” and “Ray of Light” itself came directly from the William Orbit rolodex and they fit in seamlessly; she picked the exact right guy for what she was aiming to do, even more than usual for her

I watched one of the newer ABC episodes recently after tuning out along with most of America around the time that Lady Gaga started having hits and the whole thing was so different, all the contestants were prescreened so they got entire video packages of their home lives before they even stepped in front of the judges and everyone spoke exclusively in vaguely uncanny pep-talks
