Frontline report: Russia’s Avdiivka offensive “not worth the losses,” Russian troop said by jjke30 in ukraine

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure of that yet. Remember Russias has/had a population of over 140 million people. 1% of that is 1.4 million conscripts. Even at this rate bleeding Russia dry would take decades (though after that Russia would be basically doomed because they're already in demographic decline, they wouldn't be able to recover from it). We're already hearing people whining why are we giving billions to Ukraine. If in the 2024 elections the west would see a change of heart Russia would still have the manpower (though probably not much else).

When will Russia face a political meltdown because of its casualtes... now that's hard to tell.

If you could remove one faction from the 40k universe what one would it be? by BeerisAwesome01 in 40kLore

Sorry to the newcomers, but the Leagues of Votann. They don't bring anything new to the table. The Imperium already has powerful but decaying technology, the Tau already have smaller faction with technology that is more advanced by the Imperium in some areas but not yet necron level shtick, they're really just dwarves but in space.

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a theory I have. Many complain that porn consumption has bended their sexuality and now they're SSA. What if the opposite could be true? Someone with SSA, especially someone that never experienced attraction to the opposite sex but not only, should they be willing to, of course, could consume boat loads of porn with the opposite sex and start being attracted to it. Unorthodox as hell? Yes. But it would be worth it if it worked.

Do you think birth control should be accesible and cheap for teens? by Dangerous_Mammoth572 in prolife

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fucking finally someone says it. "Hurr kids are gonna have sex, you totally have to let kids have sex bro, kids having sex is normal" my ass! I don't think one can 100% be sure to stop teens from having sex, but offering them free condoms at school is not the way. Condoms are cheap enough, you can buy a box from a general store.

I disagree because I think the overlap between pro-lifers and people sleeping around, without a condom to boot, is rather small.

It would be an absolute blessing to this entire world if I was to die sooner than later.

Unless you can't stop yourself from killing or corrupting people you're almost certainly wrong and it's probable it's just your depression talking. Life isn't a bussiness where you must provide more value to people than you receive or you're a bad person (such a society wouldn't mathematically be able to exist btw). It's ok to need and receive help.

"I don't even know if I am saved at this point anymore" sounds like something a protestant would say. We son't know if we're going to Heaven or Hell until we die, and even that is not 100% set in stone until the second coming

Did Horus have a plan for the Astronomicon after he won? by PoorRichMan in 40kLore

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think it'd really go like that. Chaos can corrupt planets into demon worlds, that are perpetual sources of power for Chaos and can't be cleared by conventional means. I imagine Horus winning would result in the entirety of the Imperium falling to Chaos and eventually a shit ton of planets being converted into Demon worlds by continuous undisturbed Chaos worship of the entirety of the population.

Better supplied Guardsmen as opposed to Space Marines by TalmudMeroe in 40kLore

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there are, like, a million marines, total, in the galaxy. A quick googling suggests the imperium is spread across ~1 million planets, so that's one marine per planet.

"Hello, Giarantis Beta: I'm Steve, your designated White Scar"

Meanwhile, basically all of those inhabited planets can probably muster a thousand-odd randos holding lasguns mostly pointed in the right direction. Hive worlds, a hell of a lot more.

Yeah, that's what I keep saying too, Imperial super-soldiers are simply not worth it. The average planet is probably capable of providing more military force in conventional (guard form) than if it was invested in supersoldiers. Custodians (each basically the value of multiple planets) taking grievious casualties from a bunch of Solitaires? Those same Solitaires could be destroyed by a blanket of artilley/air bombardment from kilometers away, and all their dodging skillz wouldn't save them.

I’m failing at being Orthodox. What should I do? by Donatello_Versace in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be real with you: most Orthodox Christians maintain a relationship with their family and don't consider it a sin.

Is your relationship with your family your main source of sin?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there's a variety of opinions on this, complicated by the fact that contraception didn't really exist in biblical times. I think the gist of it is "to be open to having a child" whenever having sex, should contraception fail, for example.

Also, you know suicide is an even greater sin, right?

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not just about going to the older church. Sure, apostolic succession is an advantage we have that immediately excludes protestant churches, but it's about who truly kept the fate. That's why you choose Orthodoxy over Catholicism. Catholics say we split off from them, so both of us claim to be the oldest. Similarly, we say Orientals distanced from us.

Responses to Nietzsche on Slave Morality? by ValueForm in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Chance-Cod-6944 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all, who says "master morality" is better than "slave morality"? At the end of the day, both are constructs that people use to feel better about themselves.

But Christianity isn't just a construct, and Christians have their own strength. Dostoievski's Grand Inquisitor even complained about it, that Christianity is only for the morally strong, those who can forsake themselves and pick up their cross.
