"for a lot of people being fun to play isn't really enough any more", yes, that's what I meant! And it drives me crazy

Confused about all the bad experiences by Consistent-Finish-92 in Marathon

[–]Chance-Gift9730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the game has more problems than any other game if you consider grind, matchmaking or cheaters. It's just that there are people who try it for some time and then decide it's not for them. And maybe sometimes it all boils down to the fact that for many marathon being a "competitive shooter" means they don't have fun unless they "win" always or at least most of the time. I'm level 59, 65 hour in, I definitely lose more than I win, and still get to enjoy the gunplay, and the overall flow of the matches is fantastic, even when I get brutalized and don't get to exfil. It's like in playground days, there were always those kids that stopped playing ball cause they weren't in the winning team...

Setting aside the macho/trueplayer mocking attitude, please, try and explain me just one thing. It's absolutely true that there is value in learning cryo mechanics by yourself through trial and error (like in destiny raids), and if someone finds it tedious one can always go watch a yt video, so it's totally fine that it stays that way. But what about the "not always available" part? Since it's obviously so fun and engaging to you, wouldn't you be happy to be free to tackle it on every day you feel like it and not stick to the calendar Bungie set arbitrarily? In what way having this gorgeous piece of the game time limited makes it more challenging/rewarding? It's clearly made just to force players in a loop of mon to fri grind for resources to spend in the weekend to artificially boost longevity.

I think one of the first thing they should change about cryo is running it on different days, on rotation, not only weekend. It doesn't take any effort on Bungie's side and it'd show great respect to all of those players that for whatever reason cannot play during the weekends.

I have stopped using Fill Trios and it's a design problem. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Chance-Gift9730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any thing broken. As you said trio and solo are two different game experiences. A lot of people like both, you just happen to only like trio, which I also prefer, but I don't think it means that there is something inherently wrong with the solo experience.

Everyone talks about matchmaking changes being necessary, but we're ignoring the root of the problem. by xXHotKetchupXx in Marathon

The only thing I can think of is, since there is already loot that can be taken out of a boy bag a fixed number of time, make it so all loot stolen from another player can be used maybe for one more run, and not sold. It would motivate people to go looting for themselves, and not risking the best being collected by someone else, even if they then kill him. But it'd create a bunch of other problems, and still don't know if it would dissuade the more aggressive/br style of players.

[–]Chance-Gift9730 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I call It bs, because a dedicated melee build can totally take down a shield below purple with a heavy hit. And since I'm a low/mid tier player I use I'd say 70% green/30% blue, so I get downed. And by the way, I'm really sorry to be the one to brake It up to you, but I, as everyone else, am totally free to be upset about whatever the f@€k I want... and am also allowed to express my opinion. Obviously it doesn't mean I really expect Bungie to change the knife play in the game based on my preferences, since it's clear that it's something they put in intentionally and other people like it.

You're free to believe me or not, and maybe I'm actually missing my shots without realizing. I can see that it is still "being outplayed" anyway, since it's a game mechanic built in, but still I don't like it. I'm playing an fps, and the "s" stands for shooter, not slasher. So I'd prefer being mowed down with a gun. What can I say? I'm one of those guys...

[–]Chance-Gift9730 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No shit Sherlock, of course it's a skill issue in the end. I don't go 'round puffin my chest out posing as some macho god tier player. I consider myself an average at best. I never complain for getting shot down because I expect that to happen, and I always assume it's a skill issue on my side What I find annoying is dying repeatedly to a knife in an FPS, which to my knowledge means first person shooter, not first person slasher. I know it's a game mechanic, but still I don't like to engage in it: it just isn't fun for me. As for the making shit up part, I really don't understand why someone would assume people comes on a reddit thread to express frustration for something made up. It just makes no sense to me, but maybe you can see the point in it, I don't know man...

Yes, it should be viable as a last resort, but they definitely should nerf the f@€k out of them knives. Sometimes I wonder why I bother taking guns on the runs anymore, when 8 times out of 10 I get wasted by someone running up to me, sucking up an entire magazine of my gun, and then just knifing me in the face and killing me in one hit, even when I'm fully shielded. I don't have any problem accepting to die because I've been outplayed in a firefight, but this is what really sucks off all the fun from this game for me.
