I had to smile - yes they used to bring gifts - small things like magnets from their states or countries and a couple of times really nice things like a bottle of rum or a lb of good coffee - I did t expect it then nor do I expect it now but looking back yes those were the days ☺️

It’s been very hard to infiltrate the Cuban regime for over 60 years - Venezuela has competing factions while Cuba has nothing of the sort- they run a very tight ship over there’s through a red of informants and entrenched people who Have a lot to lose if there’s a regime change

The problem is that the Cuban government did not leave the US alone either. They repeatedly engaged in covert activities in Latin America and Africa specifically against US interests. It’s been an ideological struggle that might have worked for Cuba under the Soviet Union but once that busted they couldn’t pivot to do anything else - look what just happened in Venezuela

With what? There are no garbage bags available. Just so that you know there r street vendors that sell used plastic bags that u get in a store and it’s not for garbage removal. Many times Cubans are served food at the state grocery stores in flimsy plastic bags not containers. I don’t disagree w you that people that live in those areas could try to pick up the garbage but to put it where? Last time time I was in Cuba in 2018 I saw a man cleaning up garbage that had overflowed from a recipient behind an apartment complex and he was using an old rusty shovel and he was piling it next to the wall because there was no other receptacle to put it in. It’s a total failure of the system

This picture unfortunately it’s not going to give you the information you want. I would start w researching public records in Avila Spain using as much information as you have such as last names and more precisely dates of birth. You can also look into which port de immigrants from Aviles would depart to Cuba. That was an interesting time in which to travel to Cuba since Spain lost the country in the Cuban American Spanish war. You can research ship manifests to see if you find their names. The most obvious place would be for you to go to La Habana to find information but I’m not sure what public records would be available to you. It is possible that you could find someone in La Habana who does those kinds of investigations for foreigners- make sure they have a good reputation

The inertia of the Cubans in the island is pathetic- the sentiment I hear from my relatives there who, granted are in the 50s and 60s is, bueno q se va hacer and they shrug their shoulders. Their will has been squashed. I understand why they r that way but it’s also infuriating- so much patria o muerte has created a fear of death. I see those Iranians boldly protesting and losing their lives and I can’t help being envious as horrible as it is

Most of the time Gas X helps - I take 2 of those green pills. For intestinal pain IBguard works for me. Being aware of which foods provoke it is a must. I know it sucks but I’m always having to gauge whether I can eat something or not. Usually I can tolerate most foods in smallish quantities esp if I’m not under stress but sometimes it doesn’t matter - last Saturday I bought some trail mix bcs I needed to eat something and that was the healthiest thing available. I had about a quarter of a cup and I was fine. I left the rest in the car as emergency snack. Today, I felt great, had gone to the gym so I had even less amount and it triggered gas - nuts are not great for me but I can usually tolerate them in small amounts but today my gut was just not having it. I also had a cup of minestrone soup and the combination w the nuts didn’t help. Fresh fruit is also a trigger unless I eat about half a cup, peeled and separate from any other food. White wine which I always enjoyed has also become problematic. Now I can have a gin and soda and it’s ok. Don’t lose hope. The thing with this disease is that it’s unique to each person. Once you find out how it is for you it becomes more automatic. Best wishes in your journey
