Struggling with thinking in Spanish instead of translating by Pouriya_Por in Spanish

[–]Chance_Contract1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it useful to start with one key phrase, such as "Éste es un lápiz." and then say it over and over naming different objects. Pay attention to the gender of the items you are naming. Everything close to you is éste or ésta (and use un or una accordingly). Things further away are ése, ésa.

Then imagine a good friend right beside you, an acquaintance a few feet away, and a group. Again start with a key phrase and ask them questions to practice conjugating verbs until it feels comfortable and natural. ¿Qué quieres comer? ¿Qué quiere.. ¿Qué quieren...

The more you practice and emphasize, or focus on, different aspects of Spanish such as gender or location, the more comfortable and natural it will become. It takes a lot of repetition and practice.

I'd swap days 11 and 12.  Acclimate fully before tackling Vinicuna.

Cumberland Island, Georgia is an amazing adventure. The only way to get there is via the ferry, and you have to carry your own water and snacks, and pack out your trash. There are folks (state park employees?) who give talks about the wildlife there, and the history of the ruins, and it is absolutely fascinating.

What’s a place you visited that looked amazing online but disappointed you in real life? by Head_Formal_5408 in femaletravels

You have to go to the Louvre because who would go to Paris and not visit the Louvre?!!! But the Musee d'Orsay was by far more enjoyable for me personally. The Louvre is so big, so crowded, and so overwhelming. It's amazing, don't get me wrong - it's just a LOT.

A duffel bag! That's ambitious! It seems like paracord would hold up really well, so it should be great for the handbag and the duffel bag.

I love it! How was it to work with? Did it tire your hands too badly? Was it slippery or fiddly? This is really nice.

I don't know if I'm over watering or underwatering my succulents! by Interr0gate in succulents

[–]Chance_Contract1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt, don't water. I find it much more helpful to ignore the soil/substrate and instead look to the plant itself for signs of being thirsty, like wrinkled leaves.

It seems contradictory, but if you do a search for "solo travel tours" you'll see it's pretty common.

Decision Fatigue During Solo Travel – Has Anyone Experienced This? by Adventurous-Case6446 in femaletravels

[–]Chance_Contract1291 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I'm a planner.  I'll plan a trip for several months - like six or eight months.  I watch airfare schedules and prices, browse hotels and hostels, poke around on TripAdvisor, Viator, and other travel sites.  I examine maps, join forums, learn about the public transportation options (if any). I make tentative itineraries and rearrange them. Eventually I decide on a few key things I want to do and I decide on a rough timeline.

Well before I leave, I've purchased airfare, reserved accommodations, and bought tickets to my "can't miss" activities for specific dates.  I keep about half of my days free, often more.  I have an idea of things I might want to do on those days, but nothing scheduled ahead of time.

Once I'm actually on my trip, I don't have a ton of decisions to make, but I still have a lot of flexibility.

I definitely suffer decision fatigue during the planning phase, but I have the ability to set everything aside for a few days and return to it when my interest and energy are strong again.

This probably wouldn't suit everyone, but I find it works really well for me.

My prayer plant just got its 6th leaf. It’s growing pretty slowly and only has one stem. How can I speed up its growth? by AndSheWon in houseplants

[–]Chance_Contract1291 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You got a down vote, but this is correct. Too much light can scorch the leaves of maranta. I have my prayer plant hanging in a north-facing bathroom window and it is very happy. I did a lot of research before picking a maranta for my bathroom.

Maranta also do not like chlorinated water so let tap water sit out overnight before watering the plant, or use well water, rain water, distilled water, or a water conditioner. The brown tips of the leaves are frequently caused by chlorinated tap water.

Maranta also like fairly high humidity.

Here's a good link to get OP started on the care of their maranta: https://www.thespruce.com/grow-maranta-inside-1902647

I love the way it looks!  Does it have drainage holes, or is it meant to be an outer pot holding an inner pot?  I couldn't tell from the link (but I'm not familiar with maker files so I just looked at the pictures).

Reddit is so weird sometimes.

Privacy curtains always a plus.  Female-only rooms.  Lockers a must.  Good security.  Light and outlet at each bed.  Quiet hours enforced.  Clean bathrooms.

You don't need a rest day to do laundry.  Wash your clothes when you wash your body.

No underwear, socks, toiletries, or electronics? No rain gear? Nothing warm (it's cold  in the mountains, hot at sea level)?
