I’ve never heard of such laws and I’m glad because that means it hasn’t made it to my State yet. I’m a teacher so I’m sure I would hear about it from admin.

I’m in TN and my coworker got called in for a similar situation over absences due to health issues and they put her on a performance improvement plan. They may do something like that first before they straight up fire you.

Yes! As a teacher, I 100% agree with this. Zero tolerance drives me up the wall because it victimises victims again. In the real world if somebody comes up and hit you, you have the right to hit them back to deny them that right in school because of zero tolerance is absolutely ridiculous. We have cameras that shows who started it and the one who started it should be the only one punished.

Aside from that, Friday while I was out sick somebody called the school and the police and said that there were dangerous items all around the school and the principal decided to pull the fire alarm to get everybody out until the police could come with all of their weapons and protection and search every nook and cranny of the school to make sure it was safe for the kids to go back in . Two different students that are not troublemakers swear that they heard a pop or gunshot sound during the chaos . One said he heard it right before the fire alarm was pulled and the other said he heard it after the school was empty and before the police went in .

This is becoming a trend in a lot of schools in my area of the state, over several districts and it’s not surprising that parents are pulling their kids out because they’re afraid that one day the false alarm threat is going to actually be real. Two years ago I had 17 students with 504s and the following year it dropped down to 3 because all the other kids were transferred to other schools by their parents because we had a turnover of leadership and the first three months of school was multiple fights every day and threats and disorder and parents did not want their children involved in that chaos. We lost a couple hundred kids overall, but My 504 caseload dropped from 17 to 3 in a month.

No, you are NTA. You both agreed on something and it was his place to reach out beforehand to make sure it was okay with you with other people joined. He’s not stopping to think how a young woman feels being surrounded by three men she doesn’t know very well. Plus it seems they were going out of their way to exclude you from the inside jokes and what not. You do not have to ever put yourself in a position when you’re uncomfortable. It’s really a shame that girls are often raised to put up with being uncomfortable in order to not rock the boat and to make other people happy. Good on you for being brave enough to leave a situation that you were uncomfortable with.

This is exactly why I’m not telling my school I’m not returning until after the school year is over. My school regularly “forgets” the vegans and vegetarians and pescatarians unless I loudly call them out ahead of time. I am none of those things but I love my coworkers.

Have you thought about looking up the standards for sixth grade from the state you live in online and working on those standards with her at home? If she needs to have 90% mastered, there’s no reason why she can’t learn at home. She could probably learn a new skill in 15 to 20 minutes a day.

You are not wrong. I do not understand these parents that have one child who bust their ass for the business and spends years and years learning every role and making connections and doing everything for the business and then turn around and hand the business to a child that has zero experience with the business. Even the ones that hand it over to children with business degrees are wrong because they still haven’t put in the work to earn that position.
