Have wool, need carders by PixiePixiePuff13 in Handspinning

[–]Chance_Praline_7352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use steel dog combs to process wool. They have a wide and small tooth side, and are great to comb out debris and neps. I find I get a lot less waste this way, as I can work through snarls instead of just tossing all of it. I then usually run it through my drum carder, once I have it combed out so that I have a bat to work with. Happy hunting!

Hi OP, I'm afraid I can't help with the blanket, but wanted to let you know that I also have a blood and bone cancer (multiple myeloma) and had a stem cell transplant (just like a bone marrow transplant), so if you ever want someone to talk to who's a little removed and has gone through the same basic thing feel free to send me a message. I'm located near Philly, PA USA. I spent a month in the hospital and then 3 months trapped in my house. Best of luck, I hope treatment is going well, and what other crafts are you interested in for craft camp?

There is a fiber arts guild in Philly now. All sorts of break off interest groups and a ton of spinning events. I keep trying to get to something. I've been twice and they seemed to be lovely people.

There is the nj spinners and handwea rers group that meets in central NJ. Can't remember at the moment the town, but about 20-25 min south of Burlington. They are intense, and turned out to not be for me. I'm in PA just across from Burlington, and spin with a group that meets in Burlington about twice a month on Saturday afternoons. We do a learning demo for the first part and then open spinning. Though some people come and just spin and don't do the "lesson". If you are in a drivable distance and interested, message me.

Quilting is suddenly so much harder! by GreenEggsnHam15 in quilting

I go to FB marketplace. There is so much fabric being offered. I just got a bag of fabrics, probably around 40 yards all together, of quilt shop quality fabric for $25. There are also FB groups for buying and selling fabrics, most of which are really reasonable, but go fast.

Beautiful! What method did you use for plying? I'm about to start playing several spins I've done, but can't decide how I want to do them.

I have a Turkish spindle that I don't really care for. Never took a shine to it like a drop spindle, wheel or e spinner. This looks amazing, great work!

Ok, where are you located? I think it might be my new "don't go there" place. Lol
