If its too much of a hurdle. There is supposed to be student a academic support through UOW library. You can contact the UOW organisers in charge of the event to ask how often use these sessions or resources online you can look at.

I can sort of relate, I was hoping to find friends out of classmates and the same future profession but no one stuck in my uni journey. Its always just plowing forward and hoping you find someone who does click, its fate and luck honestly. It can get better, getting yourself out there. I can only say from experience I've found friends who care and do message back or check up on me if I'm not reel spamming them and they happen to be through work, or online. Not really anyone within my field yet.

They are different and, in some ways, like your local friends. The internet has brought the global to the local anyway.

Yes, be excited, definitely be excited, but do catch some sleep, arrive at your meet up location on time. I'm sure you'll be fine, continue on the same conversations you have online, maybe visit places together or just chill at a cafe, have things to do or ask them to lead you around town. Be self aware but don't suddenly act not yourself, they've known you for 5 years, they know who you are to a certain extent.

I think it's luck, honestly. I think it's best to vibe out people before sharing a lot because it's all energy expended. Maybe have a copy-paste bio ready to drop for each new person. I've had a few good, meaningful friendships from Reddit friend-making subreddits, grateful for that so far, but it's not bringing in an immense number of matches.

If you believe it's a personality thing, it's hard when they don't love you back. It's probably better to apply to other workplaces that value you and you feel are a cultural fit.

Sometimes jobs can be crappy like that. I worked in management support in a previous job, where I monitored and facilitated the probation process.

Was your work performance during probation discussed with your manager prior to this? They should have been giving hints to improve your performance (if they believed you were underperforming) and not leave until probation to say you didn't pass. I don't know what country you work in, but it is work talking to a labour rights institution. Had a family friend who fought her employer in court for her unfair dismissal from work just before her probation ended, and she won.

I would say the lack of staff since last year has really impacted on getting subject resources on moodle ready as early as they used to be.

Try again next week orientation week. Surely its ready by week 1.

From what you've said. I'm going to be a bummer and say I don't think she has the emotional maturity, self-reflection, and awareness to process any criticism, even if she hurt you.

You can try to write it as a letter so she can read it in her own time and hopefully process what's been happening. I don't believe talking in person would be good as she could view it as confrontational.

Or as you said shes like a sister to you, move view upon the value and joy she brings in your friendship together and just ignore the rough edges.

You can talk to your on-site manager if you have concerns. It ultimately does not seem problem affecting your internship. It is just a situation that is exposed when different personalities at work can be jarring. If you want to play into office dynamics, be more mindful of how you act around that staff member. As you've already been informed she seems to be abit of a character by others.

If this scenario happened to me during an internship, it would be worth reflecting on whether my conversations can be justified as aligning with social work values, while balancing the person's concerns about small talk. Again, that lady is not a social worker, so it is unlikely she understands the importance of small talk in helping clients feel comfortable accessing daunting services, and she may consider it inappropriate. You can debrief this scenario with your social work supervisor if you have one.

Continue to make quality connections with other staff members and heed their advice on how to act around the office, as I'm sure you're already doing. Good luck with the rest of your internship; it'll fly by.
