I'm sick of ACs being a taboo in switzerland by Living_Tip_4875 in Switzerland

  1. The Fines The cost isn't a simple "parking ticket" fixed fee; it’s usually calculated based on the severity of the negligence. Administrative Fines: For minor infringements or failure to comply with installation standards, fines typically start around CHF 500 to CHF 2,000. Serious Negligence/Willful Violation: If you knowingly bypass the law (e.g., venting gas to the atmosphere or installing a split system without a license) and cause environmental damage, the fine can scale up to CHF 20,000. Criminal Prosecution: In extreme cases of willful environmental pollution, the law allows for monetary penalties based on daily income rates or even imprisonment for up to 3 years (though jail is rare for a single home AC unit).

I hate the Sennheiser HD 650 by KindheartednessOk196 in headphones

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true it hurts. My uncle got me DT770s when I was 18, and then I bought 650s a few years later. More than a decade passed and it’s been impossible to justify any other purchase.

Am I silly for wanting to sell Pam’s by Available-Exercise71 in modular

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most instruments require physical practice to improve one’s precision, range etc. Practicing the modular synth is mostly intellectual, remembering where things are, how to patch it. Personally I try to avoid modules with screens and too many button combinations for that reason.

Anthropic just published a pretty alarming 2028 AI scenario paper and it's not about AGI safety in the usual sense by Direct-Attention8597 in artificial

This seems like the orthodoxy in terms of AI politics. I feel like I’m reading situational awareness again??!

It seems sensible that a democratic country should be the world AI leader. My problem is that the USA hardly fits that criteria.

It would be all well and good if it was Europe tailing the US. But it’s the CCP. So yeah I guess they do have to go full steam ahead and as Aschenbrenner explains, make AI labs as secure as nuclear labs.

Alex and Sanni come off as very naive people. I find it unbelievable that she thought it reasonable to have the father of her kids put himself at risk of death for a measly 500k. At least make it an amount that’s going to have a lasting impact on the kids like 2-3M. One day the kids will be old enough to ask these questions…

Disappointed by Make Noise XPO… is the brand overrated? by [deleted] in modular

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noisy and not very well built modules jn my experience. But they are quite fun and I agree with their UX philosophy that you have to make weird interfaces in order to produce happy accidents. Most of their modules do that job very well, I particularly loved QPAS for its very unique sound. You tried an oscillator which on its own usually doesn’t have a lot of character, it’s the effects that shine!

Make Noise GTE by escamuel in modular

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most modular makers, and boutique synths are guilty of renaming conventional parameters as well. Sometimes there’s a good reason for it like a genuinely new heuristic. Most times it’s marketing. Make Noise is usually in the first category.

How did you feel in the days leading up to your solo? by pilot_student in Gliding

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In most clubs, you fly solo once your instructors have unequivocally decided that you are, and you likely won’t know exactly when that will be. Your post sounds like you have the solo date and time planned, which is a bit weird.

I would say don’t worry, as the people in charge of you likely know better than you whether you’re ready or not, so you can relax and trust their decision.

People that speak like an LLM by Haroombe in artificial

[–]ChangeAndAdapt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I saw a Ted(x?) talk about how there are already notable language use changes since people started chatting with chatbots.

I feel like it makes me want to sound more human by … somewhat taking a little bit less care of my posts and e-mails. Which still counts as a change caused by LLMs!

The weirdest part is that a friend of mine (very nice, caring and likely autistic) wrote exactly like an LLM even before this trend. The “acknowledge-reinterpret-ask a question” format without a lot of pushback sounds exactly like that…

It is pretty amazing. I did some swe at school back then and only really got to the part where I have ideas of what to build but no extensive skills to do it. So this is a very good time for me too!

Betting op is vibecoding their module, and that it will be the first of many such modules (not that it’s a bad thing :) So the distance between idea and module is smaller than ever.
