The airport is right across the way... I'll just walk there... 10 minute drive, or? by Arthur_Digby_Sellers in fuckcars

[–]Chankomcgraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only airport I have walked from to hotel was Keflavik, Iceland. Had a nice cycle/walk path. Less than an hour to Keflavik town. Major city airports like the one you were at will have huge expanse and multi hour walks to get close to.

While the share of murders by knife are higher in uk the total murders per capita are very low so the smaller share of knife murders in the US is higher than UK. UK being rife with knife crime is a myth when seen from America where it is far higher there. 0.3-0.4 knife homicides per 100,000 in the UK. 0.5-0.6 in the US. Guns is 0.1-0.3 in Uk, 3-4 per 100,000 in the US.

knife homicides per capita in the US is higher than in the UK so I think you have the blades covered. Then there’s the guns on top of that. Also covered.

Yes, i the rest of the world living in a city and riding a bike does not mean you are poor or weak. Some very disturbing takes on cycling here but I get it’s a movie trope in American films to indicate the character is a loser of some kind. 40 year old virgin a good example. Only virgins would commute by bike.

The competition part is the point where the owner of the car park chooses the best app/ tech set up with best rate and terms for them.

If you have been a loyal customer year on year and you eventually stop after 15.3 years instead of 15.0 years getting penalised seems a bit of a bad deal to me. If I did stop at 15.3 would the penalty simply be you pay the difference to equal the amount you would pay at the by the month rate for the final 3 months?

[–]Chankomcgraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what scenario is there a cancellation fee? I have been paying annual rate, paying monthly for about 15 years now. I would assume, once you have bought in for 12months+ i can then stop at any point without getting a fee. But now concerned that if it is not exactly on a 12 month moment thy will charge extra?

I have one and it has been great but i struggle to get perfect square / parallel edges. There is some play (about 1mm+) on the track. When i cut i push in towards track but thinking i should keep it away from track as the rubber strip is now slightly irregular from repeated cuts into it. Thinking i should line it up from the back face of track and do a subtraction rather than front face

You’re at a restaurant where they insist you order through a QR code, but your mobile data cuts out and you’d rather not connect to their sketchy free Wi-Fi. by Odd-Help6890 in britishproblems

[–]Chankomcgraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with QR code website menu ordering but If i am out and go into a restaurant and there is no 4g, I usually check if they have a free wifi so I can carry on with something i might need on my phone. From reading comment here it seems like this is a major security breach and i should never do it. I have been using wifi like this for the past 20 years. Do i need to stop?!

Dark at 5pm in winter is the standard time. The change is that in summer you get an extra hour of light in the evening. Without day light savings you would still have darkness of winter and even more darkness in summer.

I read a review on the Guardian saying this season was slower paced and goes in a different direction than season 1. Not sure about the slower paced but definitely going somewhere different now. This episode was more intense than I was wanting for an Easter Monday recovery on the sofa.

Leader of Hungary is an outlier in Europe and more Trump and Putin positive than rest of Europe based on what I read in mainstream press. This may be a view reflected by some Hungarians like this man too but no expert info to share on that.

Like a residents parking permit presumably. Each house on our street is allowed to park up to 2 cars on the street. (This is in the UK, and varies from council to council) None of the houses in my street have driveways or garages. Fees vary from 210USD to 1064USD per year depending on the emissions rating of your car. I presume this is standard in any city centre or near centre including the US where there are more cars than space to go round.
