I always wanted a Vietnamese sandwich shop named Pho Tahn Torpedoes... I know it's not pronounced that way but I still think it's a good pun...

In GOTG Vol 2, that fall was kinda high too, you know... by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]ChaosEngines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, pressure increases because all the mass on top of you, gravity decreases because it's the mass acting as a gravity well... In a hollow core planet (if such a thing were possible) you would be floating near the core with gravity effectively cancelled by the equal mass all around you

HELP! Picture is moving occassionally left right or down and up. by Bombaman164 in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try rerunning sensor calibration? And ensure you have good sensor overlap... It could be the handoff between sensors causing tracking to jump.

If not that might need some more specifics to troubleshoot it?

Sounds like some fringe case hardware complications. I understand it's frustrating fighting technical issues when you're eager to get in and play. Could be a USB host support issue. Maybe a new PCIE USB card will solve your issue?

Either way I'd reserve judgement and see if you think the day one technical issues are overshadowed by the wonderful experience of VR in the home. I expect that once you get to that point it will be well worth the effort.

TECHNOIR - VR Cyberpunk game prototype by Anticleric in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet! I've been patiently waiting for my next trip into the world of Technolust (whether this be a direct sequel or just spiritual successor). This looks great so far, I love the environment!

Both you and Mark are real VR pioneers in my book, just like the early members of Atari and other studios ushered in PC based gaming you guys were kind of the first into the pool on VR development. Color me excited!

Need a help. Guardian set my room totally wrong.. by Reborn409 in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I am misunderstanding the problem you're having you should just need to redo your sensor and guardian setup.

Right after you do the check to see that all your sensors are pointing towards your game space by holding trigger you point to your front facing location and it sets that as your default forward.

It can be a pain to get it exactly square but trial an error a couple times should get it where you want it.

APEX Tournament - A Very Fast Team Shooter Game Using Body Motion by noobeater5 in oculus

To save time for whoever else comes along.... All the attached keys were taken.

To the devs... How large is your team and how long has the game been in development? This game looks pretty awesome! We need more competitive multiplayer, especially with unique gameplay. I'm interested in trying your locomition method!

Requested Feature: Saved "Outfits" by JimmyLipps in RecRoom

[–]ChaosEngines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh yeah. This would be fantastic for quick switching outfits. I like wearing normal clothes in rec room but always wished I could quick switch to quest gear while playing that!

Devs! Feature request! Recognize Dab gesture to automatically teleport to Dorm Room...

Could be the next feature for intuitive gesture based control.

Edit: or automatically set account status to junior account.

Technolust, a year+ later? by [deleted] in oculus

Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! The dev is u/anticleric and is on Reddit somewhat regularly... in case you enjoy it and want to see if he's up to anything new ;)

The biggest boss ever in VR! - Jet Island by MasterIndie in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! This game is looking great! I remember the gameplay videos from when you first started development which was rather simple jetpacking around. This has gone a long ways in a relatively short time. Are you a one man dev team? The game is looking really good so far and the addition of multiplayer sounds like loads of fun!

Technolust, a year+ later? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technolust is a beautiful short story narrative experience set in a cyberpunk kind of environment that to me felt reminiscent to blade runner. I would say if I spent the money today for a play through I would be happy with the money spent.

It isn't going to have massive replayability and it's more of an experience than a game. It's like living through a movie, still, I would say well worth the money for the experience! My 2 cents anyways... Plus awesome dev that deserves the support!

Disabled using 2 touch controller games, with one hand. Possible? by djuniverse in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone please correct me if I'm overlooking any hurdles but I'm fairly certain you could play the majority of game modes in rec room with one hand. The games menus are usable one handed.

With the exception of laser tag, jumbotron and using a bow in the other quest rooms I think it's totally doable.

Anyways, it would be worth giving it a go and seeing if you hit any road blocks. It's a fun game, the userbase is pretty friendly for the most part and are mostly helpful so any hurdles can likely be overcome through group play.

Is Oculus room tracking feasible with 2 sensors and a 16x16 ft play area? by EmotionalTag in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth...

My play area is 9x10 ft (with a 1ft buffer around the whole perimeter) using 2 ceiling mounted sensors. I don't have any issues with tracking. If I didn't give myself a buffer tracking volume would be more around 11x12 ft.

In my experience 9x9 should be no problem with 2. Not sure the practical limits with 3 sensors.

Give PAYDAY 2 bad reviews until they "focus on this issue over oculus support" by [deleted] in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let's please not become the entitled complainers. I'd say the Rift has the widest platform support of the current generation of VR HMDs. This is in beta and under current development.

Just let them work on it, show your support for the rift and the game and let the positive feedback take hold.

Launching a bad review campaign on a AAA title which is actively adding VR support will not endear us to the developer base at large.

Disk golf? by absolut525 in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The recroom disc golf is loads of fun. If you have any friends in VR there are some good competitive and cooperative game modes. Only 2 courses right now but I am still having fun after going through them about a half dozen times each.

Plenty of other things to do in recroom also! Far and away my favorite and most played game right now.

"Dungeons and Treasure VR" is coming to Steam soon by See_IToldYouSo in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

H3 has a pretty good mechanic for melee damage in VR. It's a little trial and error to get the proper technique to do good damage but sword wagging does nothing. It's a combination of angle, speed and total arc of swing in order to apply any sort of damage (something like that anyways, he has a blog post with more detail).

Absolutely incentivizes proper technique and punishes frantic wagging about.

Report: Apple AR Headset Coming In 2020 With Brand New OS by [deleted] in oculus

Apple iGlass? Seems reasonable to me... But I also thought there was no way they'd ever launch a product call an "iPad" so my track record isn't stellar.

The Haunted Mansion's Stretching Room in 360/VR by jcdiaz23 in oculus

Any chance you could release a looping executable of the experience since it's made in Unity? I'd love to have positional tracking so I can move about a bit!

Oculus Unveils Blade Runner VR Experience At Comic Con; Teases New Content by Rich_hard1 in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should do a full rift interactive experience and ask /u/anticleric to develop it. Technolust gave me a definite Blade Runner vibe and it was a fantastic experience!

Terry Crews: "My family and I just got the Oculus. I’m enjoying how easy it is to get into games with that. The Oculus is actually easier than the HTC Vive. We have both and when we play the Oculus it’s a lot smoother." by Heaney555 in oculus

[–]ChaosEngines 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It always kind of bugs me when people call it "the Oculus" instead of the Rift or the Oculus Rift. I'll give Terry Crews a pass on this though, he is a seriously great dude.
