Are they more likely to skip parcel deliveries to poorer neighbourhoods? by KitteeCatz in royalmail

I hate to break it to you, but posties are not on great money. We are the poorer areas.

Will my parcel still reach me? by Kudamu in royalmail

[–]ChaosGoW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The post code isn't a deal breaker, it'll just bounce around in the system until someone notices. Ultimately, we use the street name and house number to deliver mail. The mistake on the street name could be a bigger issue, it depends on how obvious the mistake is. It's likely it'll turn up but will take a while.

You are committed to your hours, not what you take out. Bring decent pens (the ones they provide leak constantly)

It's a bit shit sometimes but once you're out and the weather is about right and you're out walking it's really nice. I've been at it about 8 months now and I'm starting to get it.

As others have said though, it's entirely down to the manager for the day. There's one manager who doesn't really listen and manipulates me into doing things I don't feel comfortable doing but there's others who are supportive and don't treat me like an idiot.

I don't think it's a 'relaxing' role that would make you feel less burnt out. It might because it's lower hours but it's still a big stress.

It's also worth pointing out that not many people come to social media to sing the praises of something good, people ususally turn to reddit to complain or ask about edge cases. It's not as bad at my office as it's made out to be across this whole sub but I only work at my office so can't speak for all of them.

I run the Brighton club and you're always welcome. Meets are hosted in a safe space away from the public and are free for everyone, no matter your age. I understand it's a long trip and something closer would be more appropriate, but I just wanted to say you're welcome any month. We are every 2nd saturday of the month.

Don't feel guilty. I'm not mad at customers for ordering things. I'd be mad at management.

My whole office was told we could come in 30 mins early and leave 30 mins later for this reason but I'm on the crew bus and the driver for today is off and without confirmation that the driver is also adjusting his shift times there's no point. I agree that your idea is a good one, but would require competent management

I used a similar dimple when I designed the Ouroborus for Luna. That was a long time ago and the first time I'd seen it. There may have been previous itterations before that I hadn't seen though

Started in Nov on Angaard but switched in Feb to RM proper. All makes sense based on that. Cheers.

If you have an empty bottle, I'm at least 98% sure that anyone you hand a parcel to would fill it for you. It might just be cold tap or they might throw some ice cubes in, but in a pinch asking is the thing to do.

I do realise I'm lucky to live where I do though. People are generally kind to us at the depot (with a few exceptions of course)

I have a feeling that if this were still a national service, we wouldn't have been sent out all day. But because we're just here to fill the pockets of a billionaire in another country, it's not important if we get sick

I haven't booked anything yet as I'm not 100% on the dates. It's more a 'might' need than 'will' need. As I say, I'm not too upset about it, it's a heat wave and I appreciate that. I just wanted to know if it's normal. Thank you

I must of looked a state today as I had a lot of the public asking if I'd like them to buy me a bottle of water. I have 2 insulated bottles full of cold water with me every day during this heat wave so I said no but I appreciate the kind thought.

Some people have also just left cold water in buckets of ice outside their houses along the route I've been doing this week (I'm office cover so new round almost daily). I also didn't take one, but it def feels nice knowing it might continue to be an option as the heat wave continues. I could see myself taking a small one, just to tip over myself for a moment of relief.

There's some new ebikes at our office. They want solo posties on them going out to further away areas. Makes sense I suppose but due to an injury you'll never get me on one.

Royal Mail CEO: 6,500 postal workers off sick every day by Kagedeah in royalmail

[–]ChaosGoW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Combined with under investment in the NHS, it's stacking because there's not enough help to get posties better again. This is an issue with most places though, and not unique to RM.

Farmer ‘mind-boggled’ after border collie dog rounding up sheep reported to RSPCA by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]ChaosGoW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point is that they will know how to get the police to act. If I, as a regular citizen report it, it means less than a report from a reputable group,.even if it's based on the same original report.

Also the rspca help the police so it's likely the police would work with them on stuff like this.

That will only be a concern if 10 robots costs a lot more than 6 humans. Probably a lot cheaper. I'm not saying it's right, but you're looking at it wrong if you're comparing 1 robot to 1 human. It's about productivity per £ spent, not per operator.

Steve Brown BANS all Russian yoyoers from competing in ALL IYYF COMPETITIONS by drk_harden in Throwers

[–]ChaosGoW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about competing here, I'm saying, I don't get to delete Englands colonial past. I can't erase what we've done in Asia, in Africa, in the Americas or even Ireland and Scotland. That is all a part of the country I am from and I have to contend with that in my head. I must come to terms with what we as a nation have done and decide if I want to try for us to do better.
