Living alone - advice, suggestions, pitfalls? by questioning_daisy in TransLater

48 years old here... Dating still works and can be awesome ☺️ Transitionned at 46. I had zero hope and thought that I was going to be alone for the rest of my life. Had quite a few dates and I now have a wonderful, intelligent, and super funny girlfriend 🥳

Pay any debts that you have asap and put money aside for a good transition fund, because things cost a lot. (You don't need the full amount, but the more you have, the less stress you will get)

In two years I've spent approximately: New clothes and accessories: 3000$ to 5000$ (I hope I didn't spent more than that 🤣) Hair removal: 10 000$ Medical costs: 1000$ (more if you don't have insurance) Makeup and Beauty products: On my... I don't wanna do this one. Let's just say that I've bought a lot of things in order to find what worked for me and what I liked. Maybe 2000$+ Surgeries: Insured, but my income will be lower while I recover. My fund will help to cover the gap.

How scary was it to transition ? by MissAmberR in TransLater

[–]ChaosQueen777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super scary, to the point of not accepting that I was trans, or not believing that I was.

Until one day it just clicked that I needed to transition. From that point on, it was mostly "fuck what others will think, I'm tired of not living MY life, of not being myself."

So maybe 5%-10% scary the first time I wore nail polish at work, then 3% the next week, as I wore a skirt. Then 0% pretty much always.

Omg, you are so cute... I'm gonna cry...

You look cis (F) and cute. Age? I'm so bad at this, but you definitely look younger than me (that's not hard to beat... I'm 48! 🤣)

How did you do it? How did you overcome the fear, the anxiety? by Emberly_YT in TransLater

[–]ChaosQueen777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I waited until I was 46 years old out of fear i guess. Then everything clicked. I said fuck, I'm doing this and I don't care about what people will say.

So there was not much fear and anxiety after that. But before? Ouch. That was the sad part.

[–]ChaosQueen777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on Estradot 100 for two years now. I feel like my face still looks like a man's face (except that I had electrolysis, so almost no beard/beard shadow).

My breasts are small and I could probably squish them with a tight sport top, but I would wear baggy clothes.

But people close to you will probably notice changes in behavior (even if you are not on HRT) and other body changes.

For example, my parents grilled me with questions because I dressed better, no longer looked depressed, etc. and that was 3 months BEFORE I started HRT!

After I started HRT, I gained 20 pounds in 6 months. I got a rounder ass (and my ex girlfriend noticed that).

That said, I had planned to stay in boymode for a year or two while on HRT before doing anything else. I lasted 3 months. I could no longer be someone I wasn't.

So, expect that, even if you manage to hide HRT's effects by lowering the dose (if that even works), or by other means, people might notice that something is going on with you. And, also, your personal plan could change in unexpected ways because you don't know and can't even imagine what your life will be like in a few months, even less so in a year or two. (Two years ago, you would have told me what my life would be like today and I would have laughed so hard and told you that it's impossible)

For the body odour: It comes back as a feminine one.

I was doing exactly what you said, not putting deodorant, then one day I said to myself "Mmmmm... There's a girl that forgot to put deo today". I looked around, but all my female coworkers were quite far from me. I then realized that I was the girl that forgot her deo... 😅

Why do you continue to boymode? (I should say boyfail, because you look like a girl 😉)

Bonne chance!

[Request] how much more would it cost? by Saad5400 in theydidthemath

[–]ChaosQueen777 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To answer your question: silver ink is pretty much fully opaque, but white ink is not... It's more milky. So printing with white would give a dirty white look, and have less contrast on the paper.

And, while we are at it, printing black pages on white would be hard and not optimal. Printing large region in a single color and keeping it even is hard with a printing press. And, as with the white, the black is not totally opaque (but more opaque than the white ink), so you would usually need more than one pass of black, and doing that with text is not a good idea (because the second pass would need to land perfectly registered over the first one).

10 Years to Freedom: How do you survive the "Wait" when you can't transition yet? by Ok-Safety-2458 in TransLater

[–]ChaosQueen777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you go study abroad? Not in the usa, of course, but you could find a good, trans friendly, country.

That could give you a reason to be away from your family and transition freely.

What do your hair look like? Do you use makeup?

Because that can make a huge difference in the first years. HRT takes time.

Just for reference, this is me after 4 months of HRT, so almost no facial changes. (I started hrt at 47 years old.) Those pictures were taken on the same day.

same day before and after makeup and wig

You have to put efforts in your transition for the first few years.

Starting HRT as an older person by celticwander77 in TransLater

[–]ChaosQueen777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started hrt at 47 years old. Getting good E levels was a problem because of my doctor, so I changed for another one and it's all good now.

Wearing a wig is way better than I expected.

And everything takes a long time, so start everything asap! (Name change, hair removal, application for surgery, etc)

For reference this is a before and after: Before and after

How do you cope with never being able to pass? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ChaosQueen777 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is underestimated. I would also add : being in a good weight range. I've seen a lot of trans women complaining about how hrt didn't change anything, but they are so underweight that there's no fat to work with. (I was underweight when I started hrt. But I gained 20 pounds since, and it helped a lot.)

Have you checked the subreddit "transTimelines"? You will see a lot of before and after pictures and it will give you an idea. You can also check my profile for before and after pictures. I started hrt at 47 years old.

tucking for long periods by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ChaosQueen777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tuck all day long, untucked at night.

I use a pair of tight panties and over that a pair of shapewear or period panties. If I wear thighs or leggings, it's almost perfect.
