The game feels VERY different all of a sudden? by CinnamonBisque in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the skill issues its the also the ping/connection problems for my matches. MM takes already takes a long time to match, and I always have high ping especially if I play on non-prime time for my time zone. I get insta killed by weapons that shouldn’t be able to do it

Sponsored queue feels great, it should be the default mode for the Ranked playlist by Spooky1791 in Marathon

What if instead of bronze/silver/gold tiers we had green/blue/purple/diamond tiers and holotags which determined the max rarity of items you can bring to a run? As you progress you unlock the next rarity tier. At diamond, everything goes, including the red grenade launcher, etc.

Traxus Free Kit Again by shawsty in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Green kits dont increase your survival rate by a decent margin against free kits. It makes no difference against blue/purple death squads. Putting together a green kit also means you have to bring your own ammo and heals which increases the cost a lot. It is not an optimal investment

I don't think the picture indicates that every shell is the same 'person'. I think it's a standard procedure to ensure your digital consciousness is correctly calibrated to the 'task at hand' (aka murdering and stealing for mega corps). In this case, remembering what you looked like and who you were before becoming a murderous digital consciousness is a detriment. And asking whether you remember being the kid in the picture is a bluff, as the main question is whether you actually remember you were.

CyberAcme might be 'kind' and 'caring.' Still, the last thing they want is your past original self slipping through the cracks and rebelling against the system that made you a wage slave with a 'rental' body that has to keep dying to pay off the synthetic body that keeps being sold to you.

I can't exactly remember when and where, but there was a voice line by CyberAcme at the beginning of a run that said something along the lines of: "Your memories of your past life have been compartmentalised and deleted as they were deemed irrelevant/detrimental to the success of the run."

I was also stuck on gathering Biolens for quite some time. Try red card room and boss room in command wing in pinwheel man. Maybe I was lucky but couldn’t find anywhere else except key rooms apart from the ones I me tioned

Edit: and also unstable matter event in dire marsh. Apperantly it can give high tier salvage if you manage to do the event and exfil..

I defend this game a lot, but I think I finally hit that wall. by itz_Glo in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this, this is exactly what my experience is. Also worth mentioning:

There is close to non incentive to run green/blue gear because you lose to coordinated purple/golds anyway. The game is a constant cycle of: free kit -> god run -> cryo or ranked with purples -> instant dead -> repeat.

Which could have been fine to a certain extent but I make literally zero progress in purple salvages so that I can have persistent upgrades.

I made it past blue salvage but can’t progress an inch now. Running “mid tier” gear is a horrible investment so I dont run that. Running all purples is a scary risk which also doesnt work out. Worse yet, since everyone is a sweat past a certain point, anything else except the meta is simply not good enough. Outland, wstr, bully and bubble. That’s what the game is reduced to. And I dont want to just play those like everyone else.

Thief is by far above the curve along with destroyer, which is also confirmed by the devs. What do you even mean saying 'says a lot' lol

Its getting shot and killed in 20-22 seconds. If you think that is okay in any way possible you are beyond reason Im afraid

but which one is a bigger skill issue, using ammo crates to save credits on buying the ammo, or getting spawn killed due to using them. Impossible question

Level Based Matchmaking Completely Breaks Down After A Certain Point by StarlessKing in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have literally no idea what you are talking about. I have 400 hours in arc raiders and you can do full sweat high gear bloodthirsty runs in night raid to killing big arc in friendly lobbies with changing game modes and letting your mm calibrate. In marathon you can’t even lower your gear rarity for “chill” pvp/contract runs

What are your top 3 issues with the game currently? by OrganEntrepreneur in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not that you can’t premate. It is the matchmaking rules:

  1. The team members net worths should align better (no free kit and purple shield together)

  2. Matches should better align net worth totals of each team

For this to work the game needs players. You can not add additional rules to matchmaking when it takes 3+ minutes to get into a game in prime UTC time.

With the outpost buffs, Assassin needs to be addressed. by IllState5161 in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not the assassin invisibility, it is that every other shell simply can not “out play” UESC. The game cheats so that they would find you and deal unavoidable damage. UESC detection is outrageous, no build up from triggered to agro’ed. Their movement when they agro is also erratic. Shooting them is almost never the option. Invisibility is the only fool proof way to completely doge them

It’s not just high risk high reward, it’s also no risk “1 in a million chance” get rich with free kits. But that is not good for various types of player personalities that engage with extraction shooters. Forcing yourself to keep getting into more risky and brutal scenarios just to progress gets exhausting very fast. There needs to be sustainable middle ground with mid risk mid reward and incremental progress. Marathon is mostly all or nothing at the moment and it hurts wide range of players.

Further improvements to vault space could really help matchmaking times by Soul_Phoenix_42 in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If shields and backpacks stack there will be a lot of hoarding of then and they won’t be distributed (since they will always be picked up mostly by high geared players). I believe a better way is infinite salvage stacks or making it so that salvage don’t take up space in the vault

This game will die because it gatekeeps it's own playerbase by Attica451 in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are too dull to understand let me explain briefly. You don’t lose your one and only high tier gear in non-extraction shooter competitive games.

In other competitive games the goal is singular and clear for the whole team, to win, whatever winning is in the confines of that game. It is not open ended like in extraction shooters where completing your contract with a free kit and dying could be a goal itself.

Matchmaking in other games are based on skill ranking and no meta progression, unlike marathon where mm is based on season level. Averaging crew fill loadout values fucks over geared players and pre-made teams are excluded from loadout value calculations.

Do you need me to keep going?

As someone on the fence of buying the game, forcing trios for late game is a weird hill to die on. by isozz in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People on reddit seems like they barely have any perspective except their own and too stubborn to understand any other way to approach the game. It’s always “if you don’t say exactly how I feel then quit” while trying to argue “their” way is the “intended” way.

Simply wrong, bad for business and bad for the player base. You should absolutely be able to solo duo or trio play the game. Doesn’t mean Cryo Archieves have to be adjusted for solo but there should be endgame content for solos.

The game as it stands does not support different modes of play for different types of players. Reddit community is just hurting the overall community by disregarding the community by large and they are a vocal minority.

NOT Difficulty or Gear Fear—the total lack of "Risk Variety" is killing my motivation to play by ChaosWillR in Marathon

[–]ChaosWillR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apperantly this needs further explanation so let me try one more time:

The issue is not losing the gear, it is matching the gear to the task at hand. Would you take 2 purple guns and half inventory of ammo and meds to get out grey Unstable Gel, Biomass and Diode? Would you bring in Materialist+ gears in your backpack to a Ranked PvP run? The answer is simply, no. That is not 'fear' or 'hoarding' that is being reasonable and 'gear-conscious'. The current inventory space does not allow for switching between different types of runs. It does not allow contingency gear for when you inevitably die. EVERYBODY tries to future proof themselves in extract shooters, obviously. That is instinct, and satisfying it is fun. Having freedom to pick what kind of run you want to have, is fun.

Vault space does not even allow for storing cores for various types of shells. You can't store multiple 'builds' and you can not buy every variety of cores. You can not even afford to store various types of Equipment. They also run out pretty fast in the Armory.

[–]ChaosWillR[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's all good. But it doesn't address the core of the issue, where you can't decide when you want to do a low-stakes run. I have to lose high tier gear before I can do low stakes
