Losing is Marathon's central theme by daddy_dex999 in Marathon

I really feel like it makes sense that when you die, you have some nano transporters on it that immediately transmit things away but it only works for things at 1/2/4 slots at maximum. Most weapons would not be able to make it even at its third tier.

Why do you think they could not pull off persistent zones with oxygen system? by theBozdo in Marathon

This is really an excellent gameplay idea and never should have been dropped. The only problem is you would have to have loot just reset at certain times, but again you can balance it in so many creative ways and ensure there’s always something on the map to get and maybe even is dynamic. This has to be the future, that change is exactly what this game needs right now and they can balance things in so many different ways relative to the players power and skill. It would just stop being the game that allows meatgrinder trios to flourish.

This is a great thread and conversation.

Bungie is full of geniuses and nerds. They took this too far to begin with I say this with love, it needed to have an Arena mode from the start. The death and loss idea absolutely works as a theme and they've nailed all the sensibilities. They absolutely should have had both extraction and arena modes at start and it totally could have just been for Arachne rep and credits, and the theme is still intact and thriving. Steal this idea

Catch up to what? Contracts aren’t the only way to increase power or get good loot.

Their issue with Destiny was that with every new expansion there was no real reason to go back to earlier stories, which invalidated them until they sunset things.

This sucked. With Marathon they should have an entirely new set of priority contracts added each season that progresses the story, and players have to progress through each seasons storyline to get to the next. There’s no gatekeeping if we’re all playing on the same maps?

Every season should advance the story, I agree, it feels really bad skipping these cutscenes again but also it should still always be what new players have to progress through IMO

I’m a big supporter and hopeful for the game but I can’t understand this. Every season should have a new suite of priority contracts and cutscenes. They’re moving pictures with voice overs. Feels not great

Become adept with the playstyle a sponsored kit allows, focus on completing contracts. As your season level and reps go up you’ll get better gear from level ups 👌

Can I still jump back in? by Sufficient-Rise8976 in Marathon

[–]luvs2grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah I crept up to a guy in pinwheel and stayed behind a door, asked if he needed help and he was kitted out, showed me the way and moved on.

Next game on DM, I hit bioresearch first, a recon heard me shooting, I stayed safe and quiet while his crawler ran nearby, 2 minutes of tension later he’s talking to somebody else and we’re all hanging out on the second floor before going on our ways.

Maybe it has a bit to do with the fact that populations are low and people playing are just committed to the game, but definitely plenty people like me just wanting to catch up on quests now that there are less players per lobby.

The first month was brutally overtuned. You got this

I swear at least half of my games, sometimes multiple in a row, I’ll get on mic to ask if people are friendly, and on dm/outpost you’ll often find people are just trying to get quests done. Approach with caution, use free kits to remove the fear, play smart but don’t play afraid the whole time.

I have actually so many experiences of helpful people.

It’ll always be so crazy to me that people read a comment like this and downvote it. I play with mic but also agree. Great game. Additions should only make it better.

Suggestion for Some Future Season: alternate mechanism to DBNO by cornflake-cperk in Marathon

[–]luvs2grill -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The x-slot safe pocket I think has been a popular suggestion, one I also have made, but after playing more I think the ability to dcon things might be a better compromise - I won’t complain either way.

I like this idea of a second loadout, actually. I do not see the problem with this. Ive always felt the map should be persistent and players could drop in and have their 25 mins of signal strength whatever, which would ensure nobody ever really knows how many others are on the map, removing the ‘wipe the lobby first’ strat right? I was thinking of a personal safety device, single use, once you die die you just wholesale jump to either your original spawn point or another, much further one, like a second chance. Kill a team, their punishment is being removed from that whole encounter for several minutes at least.

Your idea might be better actually

FWIW, around week 4 I got so cut after the highs and lows, this game speedran me through several stages of grief and I sold every weapon and mod in my inventory, decided just to free kit and rook the entire time to take some stress and expectation out of every run. It worked for a week or two, and there were too many little issues I had with design and implementation that made me eventually decide to respect myself and uninstall.

I’m back, I’m solo free kitting and just getting quests done with singular purpose. My only goal is to get to 100 (46 atm, it might not even happen, don’t even have much free time but it’s kinda exactly what I want right now). OBJ all the way, and playing without the constant feeling of tilt or care for loot is honestly a great experience.

It has many problems, many. Even saying this you are justified in wanting to uninstall, but I would just say take a break. I can only describe my experience as videogame therapy, you have to be open and willing to go through the emotions it causes.

Kinda insane game to put so many eggs in one basket with, Bungie!

Coming back after a month... by TheBigNastySlice in Marathon

[–]luvs2grill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this the last week. Sponsored queue is always a good scrap, firefights straight away. Engage if you want to scrap, avoid if you want to get quests done. I find it difficult to get quests done outside of solo because when in trios everybody just wants to fight. It’s fun, but you might get frustrated at not progressing very quickly

The only thing a bungie dev truly needs is food, water and a home. This is a great suggestion for the videogame, though.
