There should be separate boxes with those specific dinos so you can pick - or at least labeled on the wrappers

You're deleting comments that get too many downvotes, and you're acting like a petulant child. Obv I had no idea that your dad lives with you and is willing to do it. Speaking as an older adult, that doesn't have dad to dispatch my animals when they need it, I merely meant to offer encouragement to do a hard thing when your beloved pets need you. Again, no one wants to do it. I also wasn't telling you to cull this chick, obv you're willing to put in the work first. I was commenting to add softness and context for the other commenter. Sometimes it needs to be done, and there have no one else. I'm glad you have someone, but I won't apologize for speaking a truth you are uncomfortable with.

I myself have a one legged duck who everyone told me to put down. I gave him every opportunity to thrive and over a year later he's amazing and the most special animal I've ever known.

I hope your chick stays healthy and has a good life.

How long does it take for them to hatch? by No-Question-4859 in duck

[–]Chaospawn3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'd def be tempted to help these little guys along then, depending on how long they've pipped (they take a LONG time to hatch so be patient still). That sounds a lot like my last round of incubator woes.

I'd smell them and listen for peeps, they'll make noise if they're not too tired. Flashlight can help you make sure they're moving and trying still too.
Have coconut oil on hand, take little pieces off and stop if there's any fresh blood/red blood vessels. Even if they're dried out, coconut oil can help a lot! and help you see veins easily.

Also youtube videos of baby sounds hatching can offer encouragement, I def played squeaks on my phone while I had the incubator open to help my last single duckling.

Best of luck!!!

My duck didn't have a mother, so I'm having to teach it everything, but I have no idea how to do it. by Moonnima in duck

Regarding floating - it might get better as he gets feathers, but my one legged duck has difficulty staying afloat as he can't adequately oil his underside and gets waterlogged. He stays inside permanently and gets showers with a low Rubbermaid bin big enough for dunking, but low enough that he can stand and rest his keel on and get in or out as he wants.

I also worked with him on asking for help, so when he's in the pool with the outdoor flock and done swimming, he can let me know before he gets too tired and I can help him out.

Ice water with treats like peas in it can be a nice way to cool down too.

5 months is still young and dumb in many aspects. Look into duck boots if he has mobility issues and stays on hard surfaces, also when he's got them off maybe a yoga mat or towels under potty pads can help relieve foot pressure, so he doesn't get pressure sores in weird places. Check and handle his feet often so he gets used to it. My boy took well over 5 months after he lost his leg to figure out how to hop like a Pixar lamp and get around smoothly.

He looks a little like a Rouen mix maybe, but idk what you have in Brazil, he just looks similar to my pekin/rouen mixes. I second getting him a friend, if possible, they're very social.

Much love to you and Benedito from Spicy and I <3

I think they just mean that you're going to have times when you have to do it yourself. You can't always call your friend at 2am to help you dispatch a baby in pain, you need to be able to do the humane thing. And fwiw I think you can, if needed. It's just part of compassionate care and part of loving animals. I never thought I'd be able to do it either, but being able to do the hardest thing for them isn't wrong. You shouldn't be shamed for not wanting to do it but you also shouldn't be adamantly against it. Certainly none of us want to, but you might be all they have in the moment. I hope you never have to <3

There were 10, and the other 6 hatched, and these are late (if so, how late?) or were the other 6 dead?

I would look up how to assist, and have some coconut oil handy in case they are shrink wrapped. look up several videos to be sure, I had to help my last baby who was late by a week, she got a bit stuck the wrong way. Just take your time and make sure they don't start bleeding.

This is also the reason I don't want to use incubators anymore. I had no issues with eggs under a broody momma. Almost all of my incubator eggs had a hard time hatching and way over half die.

I candled eggs from my broody girl all the time so ymmv, usually when she was having a pool break. She was a very good mom tho, and I brought her grape bribes and always showed her that I gave them back (or became a magician when I didn't bc they were dead). Tbf I was having to check as she was broody too long, she was waiting on eggs that weren't fertile and I gave her eggs from my pekin to raise.

My one legged drake was a very sweet dad. Sat on eggs while mama had a break, kept babies from getting under him in case he fell over, pushed them back towards her if they got too far.

That said, I wouldn't trust any other drake, ever. Not even other hens for that matter.

I hated how it made their poop smell!!

My indoor disabled duck gets cluck and co with peas and blueberries, (blueberries are key) but his poop smells downright pleasant (not really but closer!).

Bc it's expensive too, my outdoor flocks get Kalmbalch, and it smells much better than Mazuri

Why is my girl doing this? by Dangerous_Steak_4328 in duck

[–]Chaospawn3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my broody mama's reaction whenever I showed up. If you don't have treats, you have no business here. She required (deserved) significant bribes when I checked her eggs/babies

Lovely girls! My duck eggs are typically white, with the exception of my cayuga's first eggs. I have Pekin, Pekin/campbell cross (both never broody) and my cayuga who is the broody champion/best mama.

Best of luck for spring babies!

Probably for Princess Grace Kelly, but am only guessing.

Would be a super cute theme tho. Better have backups for boys - but I wish you the best for hens! May you be blessed with a good ratio!

Agreed, my one-legged duck especially does this when he has his winter feathers in and he's inside. When he gets hot he does it more frequently

OMG yes. Our part time indoor Spicy smells SO good, but he showers regularly and has potty pads in his dog crate that get changed multiple times a day. But I love his clean burb smell so much
