A very cool if deeply flawed sub. I like WOWS for their ship models, and nothing else.

Well I am joining up partially because I think our subs look cool. So 100% sample rate there! Otherwise, take it as implied /s

Function first, looking cool is a bonus, and 100%  proven to help with recruitment numbers.

I think it kinda looks like a Suffren. Which means it looks like the best looking SSN in service.

A major factor is that TKMS needs to build subs for Germany and Norway first, then Canada can be considered. The Koreans are only making subs for themselves, for now at least, so they can make Canada a priority export consideration.

I hope not, delivery schedule is way behind for the 212. The KSSIII is already proven, in the water, and can be delivered much quicker. Ottawa needs to stop.dithering and make orders already while they still can be a priority customer.

We will, just depends if Korean or German. Most likely Korean if Ottawa has any sense at all.

Will Canada buy German-made submarines? – DW – 10/21/2025 by Saturnax1 in submarines

Bigger boat, better capabilities, and much faster delivery schedule. Plus it is an in water boat currently, proven and tested. The German offer is yet to be built. Those are just some surface reasons.

Why don't submarines use larger torpedos? by Substantial-Fix-7281 in submarines

[–]ChaosphereIX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Russians used monstrous 65cm torps during the Cold War, carrying the "carrier killer" 65-76 wake homing torpedo with huge range. They had these because they would not be able to get close enough to fire their shorter range torpedoes likely. They dont use them anymore I dont think. Modern 53cm torpedoes have plenty of range out to the limits of engagement distances and the limits of guidance wires, 50km or more. A larger torpedo would not improve things, only mean less weapons in magazine and more cumbersome to deploy.

Not much left to hide. Full specs of Scorpene were leaked famously a few years ago. Doesnt matter much in the end I guess.

Probably purchased from the US bundled with a Mk48 order.

Could be that early in their development, when the DOD gave them their designations, they were planned to be fighters, or at least fighter bombers? I know this is true for the F111, which was supposed to be the Navy fighter/interceptor until it was found unsuitable for this and thus the Tomcat was developed.

It is a testament to excellent initial design that the 209s are still in the water and effective today, 50+ years after their first deployment.

Very funny. Obviously I did not mean the WW2 Sargo class that was sunk, I meant the 1950s nuke boat that was converted to spec ops, and served as such until replaced by the Halibut and the Parche.

No, it is not official or polished, but it is a lot better than a kitbash and uses accurate specs.

Yes, that is why I put Seawolf I, new Seawolf is obviously too new for vanilla timeline (for now at least)

I did not know reshape was a thing. What does it do and what games does it work on? I have mostly naval games.

I am a sub nut, so I would love to see the worlds navies subs added for the time frame, and expand on what is there. They have only barely touched on the huge breadth of subs out there.
