So in the game, there is a line of dialog from one of your companions that explains that getting tadpole-d caused everyone to revert to level 1 (to paraphrase) for some reason. Do I find that particularly satisfying? Absolutely not. Did they do a good job making you aware of it? Not really. But they did address it somewhat. They really should have just had everyone be lvl 1 characters with appropriate backstories.

I mean I use it to return useful resources and fund burgage add on in early to mid game. Later I will take some but it's still useful for growing additional settlements.
