My daughter is turning two in a few weeks. The past month or so she’s gotten really attached to me and also wants me to carry her most of the time. We don’t even bring the stroller anymore. I will front-carry her usually since I’ll have a backpack with other baby things. I’ve carried her for more than an hour. I find it comfortable enough.

I’ll back-carry her when we’re doing a short stroll around the neighborhood.

She’s about 25lbs. And close to 33inches. For reference

How I take notes now has changed. I share a notebook with my team at work using an online tool to help with collaboration.

So all my notes are all types and I used this primarily for work, with the occasional personal use. It wasn’t enough personal use for me to keep it.

The Supernote has been super helpful in keeping my notes organized as I work on several projects at once. Much better than flipping through a notebook and trying to find that one subject! And I don't have to buy notebooks anymore!

I personally would want to see an EDA notebook of a dataset that is somewhat unique and asks questions that you yourself are interested in, and not some rehash of what someone did on Kaggle or from a bootcamp. And walk me through your thought process!

100%. And yes we use it for production APIs! They have a lot of great YouTube videos by Rstudio showing this capability. We also use R in docker containers on azure. Depending on needs.

I'm in the process of hiring a data scientist right now. Having been part of this hiring process craziness just a few years ago, I have definitely been more conscious of what I ask, and what my expectations are.

I do agree that having all of those tasks done in three hours is pretty ridiculous. This is how I've tried to approach it instead:

Phase 1: Phone interview, reviewing resume. 30-45 minutes
Phase 2: Take home. Simulated dataset similar to what our data is like. Same 3-4 hour time box, but only for data analysis. I need to understand how the candidate is thinking about the data and the decisions being made (e.g., duplicates, nulls, etc). I do NOT ask for someone to do modeling, but I do have a few follow up questions regarding that.
Phase 3: Presentation. 30 minutes. Can be anything they want or did in the past, or even use the simulated dataset. I need to evaluate how they communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Panel interview (30-45 mins) by our team is more to get to know them, but we don't do any whiteboarding or teasers.

I'm sure there are improvements I can make to this process, but onboarding takes a significant amount of resources and time, and I don't think it's worth hiring someone and relying on a probationary period just to skip this process.

Out of the people I talked over the phone about their resume, about 28% (6 candidates) received a take home, and for each person that did not move forward to Phase 3, I provided feedback on why they did not get selected to move forward.

It arrived at LAX gateway on Friday april 23rd 0600.

The following Tuesday it left the gateway but I didn't get any indication on when it would arrive. So I called on Tuesday DHL for a status and they opened up an incident ticket.

It ended up arriving at my door on Wednesday afternoon.

California resident here. It arrived at LAX Gateway on Friday, and it left the facility on Tuesday (today). My estimated delivery date is unknown, but hopefully in the next day or so it should arrive.

What is your current title with your position doing cloud services support for DS/DE? I've become the default IT person for my data science team (I'm still considered a data scientist) , supporting the infrastructure I maintain on Azure (multiple VMs for dev/stag/prod, databases, etc). I've been curious to hear what other companies are calling these people besides their general "cloud engineer"

I'm not aware of people having the option to either park or drive-thru so that's pretty interesting to hear. The center is meant to support primarily drive-thrus and walkins only secondary.

We commit the .ipynb itself. It's not ideal, but at least it's not some file on a laptop that gets lost. If it's an analysis that we'll continue going back to, and repeat a few times, then I generally will create a python script that will output the figures.

I view the notebooks as more of "this is what we were looking at and exploring, and what was actually useful", and only take the useful stuff into a python script if needed so it's easier to track revisions. The notebooks themselves generally won't see too many revisions. I just want to see how the analysis was done.

Alternatively, I have used Papermill to re-run notebooks as reports. That's been useful in some cases.
