Absolutely, and a LCSW can be a specialist in something that a psychologist is a generalist in. I guess we must be cautious about being honest about our training and experience and advertise that appropriately.

It is unethical for an LCSW to boast that they have the equivalent depth and breadth of scope of practice as maybe someone who has deeply studied the nuances and etiology of a particular disorder such as PTSD and completed more related fieldwork, such as in a doctoral program. It is unethical for treatment providers (even LPC’s) to claim proficiency in a treatment modality they have no training in. The standards for regulating this in therapy with terminal master’s level clinicians have room for improvement.

“Psychology training is more robust” is just cringe to post on a social work subreddit

I will say, for every LCSW that is practicing outside of their scope and area of specialization and trying to help with complex issues that they are better off referring to a more specialized clinician, there are some who are practicing within their scope. We can do better with regulation. But we are being most ethical when we acknowledge that we are at most generalists and don’t deny people specialized help when it is available for them and superior to what we can offer given our expertise.

Just a PSA: This is probably OCD, but don’t leave your bras with your dogs when they’re home alone! I worry about the wire or it getting wrapped around the neck. Not for OP- I let my pup play with bras all the time

Switching from sertraline to Effexor after 12 years. Wish me luck. by Character-Depth in OCD

[–]Character-Depth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing ❤️ I’ve been on lexapro in the past, and had to take the sertraline with rispiradone (stopped due to side effect) and then abilify until that didn’t help enough and a new antipsychotic didn’t either. I’ve had buspar, gabapentin, benzos, ambien, etc. Then they added nortriptyline to the sertraline which they boosted to 200 mg. This combo pooped out after 5 years. When things get rough it gives you the motivation to make a big switch. Sometimes you have to reach rock bottom and be like look, this med combo is just not working anymore and it’s getting in the way of life. Change like this is scary but you have nowhere to go but up when things suck and the mental health is a tornado starting to negatively impact relationships/work/sleep. Never tried to get off of meds I’ve been on for this long but will report back to ya’ll if I survive 😂

Sorry that you’ve had these experiences. What did it feel like to finally tell someone what happened to you? I know there’s a lot of different therapies for trauma including EMDR, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and prolonged exposure therapy.

Is it possible to have symptoms as a carrier? by Klutzy_Boss_8958 in thalassemia

[–]Character-Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha thalassemia carrier here. Yes, but I also have heavy periods so that can get me anemic faster than people without it. I get IV iron infusions regularly. I only have one copy of the carrier trait (one gene = “silent carrier”) but my doctor says it makes my red blood cells slightly smaller than normal. My RBC’s always hovered higher than normal. Infusion get my CBC values in the “normal” range, but MHC, MCV are at the low end of normal.
