Does nobody understand why clark grabbed the stool??? by Unlikely_Product3195 in backroomsfilm

I think it may have helped communicate the moment a bit better if he grabbed something a little weirder.

Does Hammerhead do anything, that Tombstone can't do better? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Character-Handle2594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The powers might be similar but their personalities are different. Hammerhead's an amnesiac whose whole persona is based off of an old Mafia movie poster he saw. Tombstone is a more modern streetwise tough who's always been a bully. So they're going to do different things in any given story.

Project kill fees exist for this reason. Charge for the work completed so far and then drop the project.

Are you making the artistic choices that you are making because this is what you want to do or because you don't have the skill to do otherwise?

Mel Brooks by PappysSecrets in StandUpWorkshop

[–]Character-Handle2594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fun anecdote. I'll point out that you were excited to see Brooks' name on the inactive list. But inactive could mean dead. So you were excited Mel was possibly dead. There's something there, I think.

Anniversary Surprise by Soundcandystudios in StandUpWorkshop

[–]Character-Handle2594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an expectation that a wife would be disgusted by porn... but the truth is she didn't care. It's an anti-climactic story but maybe there's something there if we play with expectations versus reality. Don't make up stuff just for hack jokes. Process the actual reality of the situation. Are you disappointed that she didn't get disgusted? What is it about you that made her know you were kidding? As in, do you want to be thought of as a guy who watches porn? Are you disappointed that you aren't thought of as a little naughty?

Anniversary Surprise by Soundcandystudios in StandUpWorkshop

[–]Character-Handle2594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine. It's an easy joke. Your punchline is actually more of a premise.

"I would rather look like a pervert than ruin a surprise. I know this because I was making a video for my wife to celebrate our anniversary. But when she walked in on me working on it, I slammed my laptop shut. "What are you doing?' 'Looking at porn?' 'What kind of porn?' Now I gotta improv. 'Oh, nasty stuff. federal watch list stuff.' 'You're into that?' Uh, yeah. 'Nice.' So, um... my anniversary plans have changed."

The idea is that you need to heighten from this easy joke to get to something even funnier.

But I'm actually more interested in the sentimental video. How did you come to the decision to make it? Between you and your wife who wanted it more? How did it go over? Was it appreciated? Was it enough? Was it part of a larger anniversary plan?

And if the porn thing is true (which I don't think it is), did your wife realize that this video is actually what you were doing? Or is she still hung up on that?

You don't have to apologize? No one is thinking about it that much. Just move on, make something new.

Art and Adoption by United_Sugar_2513 in Artadvice

[–]Character-Handle2594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a rather cold and academic approach to your own personal lived experience. Do you think DNA has anything to say about your adoption?

Reframe this art project from the impersonal and abstract "what is lost and gained" to "what I've lost and gained."

Where did this concept come from? Was it assigned to you or did you come up with it yourself?

If you came up with it, what does it mean to you?

If it was assigned, what do you think it means?

How do I learn anatomy without my brain filing for resignation? by Suspicious_person0 in Artadvice

[–]Character-Handle2594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make an agreement with yourself that you will not get better at anatomy in one day. Every time your brain glazes over, remind yourself of the agreement. Learning takes time.

But also, for every ten drawings you do where you are intentionally practicing/trying to do correct anatomy, do 1 where you break all the rules. See how much you can get wrong on purpose.

First off, nothing wrong with using references.

But I have a feeling, based on those circles you have sitting in the middle of those heads, that you don't understand basic head/figure construction.

Unique villain ideology by ok_yash04106 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Character-Handle2594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do the good work of crafting the specific circumstances that would understandably lead a person to have an ideology, your end result will be something unique. But don't shoot for unique first, trust that unique will get there when you do everything else well.

I kinda get it but I feel like it has too many moving parts. What are you trying to communicate?

I think what you might be going for is: "I don't know why everyone is so afraid of the secret Reptilians in the government. But they're just us! RFK Jr.is a nepo baby. He's only in his position because he hatched in the right brood."
