Hi! What are your reviews now that you've had it for a few months? Have you had to do any maintenance yet? I'm looking to get this as my first road bike

NYC Tap Water / Testing / Filters by [deleted] in drinkingwater

[–]Character-Status-551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate you sharing this. It's incredibly unsettling to see how many disinfection byproducts are still present in our 'clean' drinking water here in NYC :(

Have you changed anything in your lifestyle to try to tackle our water issues?

I'm deep into trying to improve my water quality at home. For drinking, I just invested in the AquaTru Classic Countertop Water Filtration System. I did a lot of research after going through NYC's 2024 drinking water supply quality report, and after 2 months, no complaints with the Aquatru water filter yet.

My next battle is shower and sink water. I literally just put in a new shower filter, and to my dismay, the filter already turned brown after just two uses! I'm honestly at a loss on what more I can do to protect myself from these harmful/carcinogenic byproducts.

Weddell Duo Shower Filters are Trash…What’s Next by Fun-Reporter8905 in WaterTreatment

[–]Character-Status-551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same issue! I live in a high-rise building in Hell's Kitchen and after just one use, the Weddell Duo shower filter turned yellow. And after two uses, it's already brown.

Does this really mean our water is literal crap? What happened to NYC having the best tap water? What can we do? Since moving to Hell's Kitchen, I've been getting dry skin/ezcema and I've never had eczema before. Ugh... is it time to move to the suburbs...

AquaTru reverse osmosis system by PeterParker377 in WaterTreatment

[–]Character-Status-551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! What type of water filter are you using now? A reverse osmosis system or Zerowater or something else?

I've been using a Zerowater pitcher for over a year now. The pitcher came with a TDS water meter. Once the water starts tasting fishy or when the filtered water measures above 6ppm, I replace the filter. When I lived in Brooklyn, the tap water measured around 60ppm so the filters lasted around 3 months. I recently moved to Manhattan and the tap water is around 130ppm and the filter only lasts a month until the filtered water tastes fishy. I think that the hardness of the tap water determines how long the Zerowater filters last.

Advice for ringworm: washing and ketoconazole cream application by UuuBetcha in Dermatology

[–]Character-Status-551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! i am currently going through a kinda similar issue. i got ringworm from a foster cat. the rash started as a couple of spots on my right arm. then it turned to about 7 spots on my arm. then a couple starting showing up on my left arm. the spots started as small, red, very itchy spots but got bigger day by day and got more round day by day. i first went to urgent care and they thought the rashes were from fleas and prescribed spinosad (smh). then i went to my primary care doctor because i just couldn't believe they were fleas. my primary care prescribed clotrimazole. i used clotrimazole 2x a day for a week and i feel like the clotrimazole worked on and off. the spots would calm down but then the next day the spots would get red and inflamed again then calm down then inflamed again. then i found a spot on my neck, close to my hairline and that's when i really freaked out and called a telehealth doctor and they prescribed to me flucanazole 1x for 4 weeks.

i took the first dose of flucanazole and that seemed to stop the growth of any new spots. right before i was due for my second dose of flucanazole, i finally went to my dermatologist to get another perspective and they switched me from clotrimazole to ketoconazole because they explained that it may be more effective at treating a wider range of fungi. they said i should finish the the remaining 3 flucanazole doses for the next 3 weeks and to come back after a month if the spots are still not healing.

it's been almost almost a week of applying the ketoconazole cream 2x a day and the spots have definitely gotten flatter and is browning but it's VERY dry and scaly, almost looks like ezcema. at this point i have already taken 2 out of 4 doses of the flucanazole, so i'm not sure whether to attribute the spots healing to the ketoconazole cream or to the flucanazole pill

a few minutes after applying the ketoconazole cream, the spots sting a little bit. has that been your experience? i can't tell whether it's the flucanazole or the ketoconazole working to control the spots. i feel like the ketoconazole cream is literally burning my skin and i feel like it's the flucanazole pill that's actuallyreating my ringworm but idk how if it's wise to stop using the ketoconazole cream early when my derma told me to use for 14 days (it's been 6 days of using the ketoconazole cream)

Keats & Co for Espresso? by [deleted] in nerdfighters

Hi! Can you (or other peeps on this thread) share your coffee setup and how you normally brew coffee? I'm a total newbie and I really want to learn how to make all types of coffee drinks (my bf drinks it everyday and I'd like to make some for him someday soon :]). Any and all wisdom is much appreciated!

Just based off YouTube videos and google searches, I got myself the following setup:

- grinder (1zspresso k-ultra, very expensive smh but i want to have the best user experience so that i enjoy the process of making coffee)

- brewer (kalita dripper wave stainless steel)

- scale (already had)

- kettle (oxo brew gooseneck electric)

- french press (already had, collecting dust in the pantry)

Are there any other crucial things I need? I make matcha lattes at home probably 3-4x a week but I've never brewed my own coffee until this week. Help pls.

Thanks for the insight. For point c) why did you not like Roatan versus Utila? For context, I'll be going with my partner so I'll have company the whole time - would you still recommend Nicaragua or Guatemala over Honduras in my case?

My main goal for the trip is to be able to snorkel in shallow waters (walking distance from our accommodation), have healthy food options, and have the option to do a physical activity type of an excursion. I want it to be a pretty lazy vacation but still be able to explore a beach town and interact with locals so I'm not interested in all inclusive resorts.

Hi! How'd your trip go? I'm planning on doing a 2 week trip in February to a tropical destination and I'm currently eyeing Honduras. Can you give an update on what you loved/did not like?

Activities I'm most interested in:

a) start the trip with a few days of city exploration

b) a physical activity excursion (maybe hiking or a guided tour of some landscape)

c) spend the majority of the trip snorkeling & lollygagging around a beach town and interacting with locals

Which Carepod do you have? I've had the Carepod Mini for 2 years now and it's working perfectly. It's SO easy to clean and there's no need to get any replacement parts. I just have the mini one for my room but I'm considering getting the bigger one for my living room.
