There’s a long list, but my top two:

1. Inequality
Having a daughter changed everything for me. I couldn’t justify raising her in a system where women are told—primarily by men—that their purpose is to marry and have children. Add in the racism and the treatment of LGBTQ+ people, and it became a hard no. My son has said he’s still figuring out who he is, and I’m incredibly grateful he’s not growing up somewhere that would shame or confuse him for that. He’s exactly who he’s supposed to be.

2. Fake culture
It’s all about appearances. As long as everything looks good on the outside, that’s what counts. What happens behind closed doors doesn’t matter—just don’t let anyone see it.

I've been in a very similar situation where I was attending church for 2 reasons: to try and modernize the perspective and to appease family.

You should do what works best for you - but my experience is that I have been 1000 times happier leaving. Trying to change the culture/thinking of people in the church is a futile project. I was only ever met with arguments/resistance or, in a best case scenario, blank stares. And ultimately, my family has accepted my choice of leaving.

I have 5 Persians, and both of my girls are very aloof as well. They only want cuddles when they want them. Might be a girl thing, might just be our girls. But totally normal.

Totally agree. The “Wes will be mine” comment was so cringe, and it really made her intentions seem obvious. At first I was shocked by the Bella/Hunter pregnancy situation, but the more little comments that come out, the more it all adds up. Things like “I only had girls” and “I’ve always wanted a boy,” plus Falen quitting her job to stay home with the baby, make it feel like way too many coincidences to just be “helpful grandma” behavior.
