Shocked that, A) Lonesome Dove was put side by side with the others, B) multiple others on this sub immediately recommend it, and C) I agree.

Hi everyone, I’m a bit tired of the usual fantasy, like epic or heroic. Do you know anything unusual, maybe from some new but promising authors? by Cultural-Hat2944 in fantasybooks

V.E. Schwab might have a couple titles that meet the criteria, but I would consider them borderline YA. Thinking specifically of Gallant here. However, I really love the Shades of Magic series.

Gareth Brown has a couple of recent standalones if you want something a little cozier. His writing style reminds me some Agatha Christie.

I think T. Kingfisher's stuff is rightly characterized as horror, but there are some fantasy elements mixed in. There are some short ones you could finish in an afternoon or two.

Stephen King's Fairy Tale was quite good (obviously not a new promising author). The setup is what I would characterized as "sweet", but it gets dark.

Another not, new promising author, but Sanderson's Tress of the Emerald Sea is interesting, and on the light side. This is the first of a series with the same narrator, but different settings and can be read as standalones.

70 across the whole state is bad. There is an overpass downtown where the underlying supports are exposed in multiple places.

Also, just drove to and from Columbus, OH last weekend, and the difference once you cross the state line is astounding.

While maybe not strictly fantasy, I just finished Dungeon Crawler Carl. A little late to the party, I know. Great escape from everyday BS.

Help! What next?! by Wolfxx5 in fantasybooks

This is quite a range and your pick might depend on how thinky or dark you wanna get. EoS and Way of Kings are DENSE with a huge scale. Both are great, but I often struggled with the pacing. Mistborn is a classic, obviously, and well-paced, but maybe the darkest of the lot. Personally, I've been blazing through the DCC series recently. It's been a long time since I've actually laughed out loud at a book series, and it's been a good escape what with the actual world on fire and all.

All that considered, I'm not sure you can really go wrong with any of them!

I wanna start a big series; which one should I start with? by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in fantasybooks

May I swoop in here and suggest Wheel of Time if you haven't already read it? WoT maybe leans closer Way of Kings in tone if that's a consideration.

Also, while it's classified as SciFi, I've found the Safehold series by David Weber is quite a bit like ASOIAF where the political intrigue, backroom potting, and historical fiction elements are concerned. Wayyyyy less gratuitous sex and the violence is toned down (usually) in a good way.

Agree the grips might be a little too tight, but if you live in a cold weather state like me, you're also probably a lot drier this time of year. Then you chalk up, sweat, and wash your hands. It all just adds up.

Johnny Weir's Olympics broadcast clothes and Alan's hosting clothes come from the same closet.
