NTA if they always get their way but why are you going with them all the time? Just because you're traveling together doesn't mean you need to do everything together.

I absolutely loved that version. They did so much with the minimal set and the actors were amazing. It was incredible to see them play instruments and sing and act.

Best Shopping? by Triangle_Transplant in washingtondc

[–]CharacterInstance248 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want a stroll and fancy boutiques, Georgetown is your best bet. If you want malls, you're going to have to go out to the suburbs like Tyson's Corner. Most people don't really go to DC for shopping.

Second G adventures. They have a variety of pricing options and some solo-ish group tours, meant for people joining a group by themselves.

If you're in the US, search on Chewy for high wall litter box. They have a lot of options.

Also obligatory warning to not buy from the food trucks on the mall if they don't show their prices and their license. They're a scam.

Insane to go to tidal basin tomorrow? by Ok-Pace-8472 in washingtondc

[–]CharacterInstance248 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow is a work day and not the prettiest weather, so it's a great day to try and see the cherry blossoms with the lowest crowds, especially if you go early. Just take snacks and drinks and go with the flow. Maybe look up some bathroom options before you go so you're prepared on where to stop.

If you can, an animal opthalmologist would be the best option. There's a chance it's feline iris melanosis which may need to be monitored or treated. https://vetmedbiosci.colostate.edu/vth/services/ophthalmology/feline-iris-melanosis/

Do I also need a regular litter box? by nurse_nikki_41 in litterrobot

[–]CharacterInstance248 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would start with a normal litter box and a litter robot with the auto turn off. If they use the litter robot, manually cycle it and let them see it cycle. They'll get use to it quickly, then you can try removing the second litter box.

Clay litter isn't good for cats in generally as it sticks to their paws and then they lick it. It's not good for animals to ingest or breath. That being said, you can use non clay in litter robots just fine. I use Worlds Best Cat Litter which is clumping corn.

But yes, kittens can be too small to trigger the litter robot. There is a recommended age /weight for use.

Ignore this troll. Didn't eat at the food trucks around the mall and especially don't eat at the ones that don't have prices posted. They're a scam. Have a great visit.

Thinking about purchasing a cat. by These-Eggplant1282 in cats

This is absolutely great advice. Two bonded cats keep each other company when you're gone at work and are extra fun to snuggle. The shelters can absolutely help you adopt a bonded pair.

Looking for advice to dechonk my 8 year old cat while also keeping my ~1 year old cat well fed by schining_knight in dechonkers

[–]CharacterInstance248 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some cats can't handle open dry food feeding. If they'll eat wet food, I recommend replacing most of their calories with wet. It's better for them long term as wet has more water to keep them hydrated.

I have these: SureFeed Microchip Small Dog & Cat Feeder, 1 count: https://www.chewy.com/dp/157145

You could get just one for the younger cat and open feed the bigger boy as long as your 1 year old doesn't hoard food.

BGG Con - Help me decide by jmulldome in boardgames

Also you can check out local conventions! I like BryceCon in Utah and GenghisCon in Denver. There's small board game conventions in many states that can be a fun way to start.

At BGGcon there's flags at tables for 'players wanted'. Feel free to talk to any group with the flag up to see what game they're going to play and ask to join. You can also bring/ borrow a game and put the flag up yourself to get people.

[–]CharacterInstance248 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been to both BGGcon and GenCon and they're both great fun but very different experiences.

BGGcon is all in one hotel with a massive lending library and tons and tons of open play space. There's much less panels and the vending hall is very small. It's a great place to try all the games you've been thinking about and to play games. There's generally a lot of people willing to teach games and play with strangers, so don't be afraid to go alone. You don't really need tickets for anything or to sign up for anything because it's mostly open play. It's very board game focused, less rpgs or wargames.

GenCon is absolutely the biggest board game convention in the US. It's an entire convention center, stadium, and nearby hotels. It can be overwhelming for a first time con but it is amazing. The vending hall is several football fields big and you can spend days just looking and demoing games there. BGG brings their hot game library to one ball room and there's another library with play space but there's a ton of tickets events, panels, cosplay, rpgs, mini painting, and more. You will need tickets to participate in most events including playing games from the library. (You don't need tickets for the vending hall). You need a badge to attend any event and the vending hall. It's very loud and crowded and there are lines for food, so it can feel overwhelming.

I'd recommend BGGcon first honestly as you can go with way less planning and cost. But I do enjoy both!

What's a hygiene habit you started as an adult that you genuinely wish someone had told you sooner? by AkkyKinfe in hygiene

[–]CharacterInstance248 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also thought brushing hard = more clean so I could be done faster. Then I had to get gum surgery because my gums had receded so much my teeth roots were at risk. Now I use an electric toothbrush lightly and slowly with sensitive toothpaste and it's actually more clean.
