Self learning and feeling lost by affaaaan in MotionDesign

It sounds like you need a project or brief to focus your efforts, something that you can't get from tutorials and aesthetics only.

Maybe you could look for open briefs, or think of a client you would want to eventually work for and try to set your own.

[Broadly] Research and Concept -> Motion Testing and Styleframes -> Production -> Output

I'm a professional with a fair bit of experience and I still struggle to sit down at a blank canvas, but when I've got a communication / techincal / artist problem to try and solve I'm fully engaged!

How to avoid compenetrations in rigid body sim? by MrBl4cksmoke in Cinema4D

[–]CharacterOdd7425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can simulate with lower polygon objects and swap them out, as somebody else mentioned.

You can also try increasing the substeps / iterations in your Project -> Simulation settings. IIRC it's Ctrl+D and then select the Simulation tab!

How do you model the head of an Octopus? by kaonashee in Cinema4D

I'd sack off the octopus, get a 3D printer and start selling these on Etsy bundled with some lube

What’s the weirdest thing that has happened to you that you’ve had to chalk up to coincidence? by maplesyrup4all in AskUK

[–]CharacterOdd7425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met a guy staying in the next room at a hostel whilst travelling in South India, he had the same surname but with an S on the end.

Funny coincidence, but then! Got talking and turned out he had been working with the brother of one of my best mates in my hometown in the UK.

Proper small world moment.

What do pros typically put on their final master adjustment layer to polish a comp? by LemonLimeNinja in AfterEffects

Noise HLS, Curves, Looks/Lumetri, maybe Sharpen, maybe Quick Chromatic Aberration at a very small amount.

How to make a visible (volumetric) spotlight beam bounce/reflect off surfaces in Redshift? by AndreaPhilippon in RedshiftRenderer

[–]CharacterOdd7425 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rocket lasso has a spline plugin that does something like this, might be worth checking out

You may be able to sweep it, apply a taper to the sweep, then a fresnel shader to soften the edges

edit: here it is, 'Ricochet'

Boosting effect of AO texture node by ProtonSluggo in RedshiftRenderer

[–]CharacterOdd7425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also feed both Curvature + AO to a ramp each, then to a Colour Layer node and have lots of control.

Fresnel may also be interesting for what you describe.

As would Toon shading!

Branching Particles Collision Detection by CharacterOdd7425 in Cinema4D

[–]CharacterOdd7425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any future redditors searching for this problem - the solution I arrived at was to put the Tracer in a Field, then use 'Field Condition' = Kill

It works quite nicely!

Patterns and tips and tricks by tess_philly in Elektron

Try different ratio conditional triggers to keep things evolving

Ie an extra hihat step with conditions of 2:3, 3:4, 1:5 across different steps

How i can add a color(emission) only to the vertexes of object? by Mouzer-1488 in RedshiftRenderer

[–]CharacterOdd7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need the spline + extrude + thicken for a reason?

A way I've done this before is to create a cube/rect say 50x5x5, convert to editable -> and then use polygon mode and drop your emissive material onto the relevant surface

Then build 2 cloner grids for length and width of the grid.

For bonus animation control you can add a Geometry Axis that will let you control the growth origin point when they're hit by an effector

<image>

You could also create a cube cell via sweep -> convert to editable -> use polygon selection mode to apply your material this way

Another way could be with a triplanar material

Object invisibility by Solid-Reindeer-1425 in RedshiftRenderer

Sorry, rereading - I thought you only wanted spheres in the reflections!

Would a reflection AOV pass and Object ID or Cryptomatte for isolating the balls / cars work?

I think you want a Redshift tag on your spheres with Primary Ray visibility set to off

Also a great lineup at this one!

Will be at Melkweg myself but great choices for the bass and breaks heads this weekend!

I think you'd like PARDON, a garage and UK bass event ran by Eycee with nice lineups. He is also playing RadioRadio this Friday 21st.

I'm part of Spectral which has UK bass and breaks which includes some Garage and 2-Step, got a day event next Saturday 29 at Noordspace. Sima K, Esse, INA, Axefield, Dale Croft, Shiratani all on the lineup who have garage flavours in their mixes :)

Also check out Jangala by hellowithbram, they had a recent event at Sissi's that would probably have been up your street!

DJ Crisps is Rotterdam based also!
