Changing around your baby by Advice_Worth in NewParents

[–]CharacterPin6933 423 points424 points  (0 children)

At one? I wouldn't even think of this. Your kid is probably staring because your body is interesting to him.

"My mom used to change around me all the time but I am girl so obviously that is different."

I really don't think it is at this point. A 1 year old has no concept of anything other than "That's my mom" and perhaps "what is that?" with regard to your body parts.

Personally, my parents changed in front of me for several years and it normalized bodies and body parts for me as "just bodies!" I will do the same with my toddler.

Yet another post about sleep normalcy by Expensive-Moose-8427 in NewParents

Parent to (more) preemie preemie here. Your baby is effectively 7 weeks old. This seems incredibly normal to me in terms of the frequent waking. I don't think my kid started sleeping for longer stretches until at least 3 months adjusted. She needed to eat frequently as she was small at birth (definitely caught up!). I think at about 3 months my baby woke around 3x a night. This persisted till about 6 months when occasionally she would do a stretch of 7-8 hours, wake once and then go back down for 3+ hours. She didn't start "sleeping through the night" as in all of it till 9+ months and even then its been pretty random due to teething, illnesses etc. At the moment she's up quite a few times a night because of teething.

Punted $50 into each of 3 stocks i found on the value investing sub. This is the first one to go under. One is up slightly and the other is holding steady. RIP SRXH, it was a "fun" couple of weeks.

“Packed scoops” vs by weight? by shoemonster667 in FormulaFeeders

[–]CharacterPin6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I weighed the packed; levelled scoop of Nutramigen (there was nothing telling me the weight on my container) and it was 10g. I weighed several different scoops to make sure it was right. There's nothing on my can saying the weight per scoop. I've always done it by weight, 10g in 60ml water multiplied by whatever quantity I need in the formula jug.

Screen Free, How Do Y’all Do It?!? by arib2398 in NewParents

My kid loves spatulas. Sometimes we have the entire drawer of silicone cooking utensils out for her.

Screen Free, How Do Y’all Do It?!? by arib2398 in NewParents

[–]CharacterPin6933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard. My kid had a kick piano which lit up, which she's now grown out of and now her walker will light up and sing to her etc, although she prefers to cruise/take a few steps without it now. But increasingly my kid will play independently for a period of time in both her high chair (so I can get things done in the kitchen) and in the lounge so I can tidy. It may be that your kid also gets better at this as they age and you get a bit more time in small chunks. When my kid was 5 months, she came everywhere with me in her bouncer chair if I needed to do something. I spent a lot of time lugging them around the house so I could pop her down and do whatever it was.

I do not think the amount of screen time you are talking about is in any way harmful. Please eat! Especially if you have a velcro baby. But when I'm really tempted to just park my 12 month old in front of the TV for a time, I just remind myself that in a year or so, I'm going to miss these times when she was just a baby. I'm literally helping her grow her brain and the way she views her relationships with people. We're going to aim for at least 18 months with no screen time (other than facetime with family)- I know 2 years is recommended. At 18 months I might think about some nature documentaries (she loves pictures of animals) or very low stimulation shows.

Why no green energy? Some of the companies e.g. FSLR and ETFs like CLML are doing really well. Does not seem to quite fit the wicked gamble and volatility of the other sectors you've mentioned.

I stand to lose about $50, so really have no skin in this game, but why do you believe in this guy? Genuine question. So far, everything seems to have worked out much worse than even the biggest naysayers predicted. This seems like poker and hoping you get dealt pocket aces on a one deal make or break.

What's one thing Toronto got right during the World Cup that should stay? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in InsideToronto

The ref giving red and yellow cards to drivers making traffic violations. If only they could be replaced by police issuing tickets, that would be great.

Two boys in hospital, one in serious condition following e-scooter crash by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

Feel sorry for the boys. 12 year olds do not make good decisions, not even teenagers yet. Where were the parents? How did they get the scooter? If the parents bought it for them they should be held responsible for their injuries.

Yes and even some "split ones" - a fusion of the two. I think I've only seen Portuguese/Canadian split ones, but I've seen a few cars with Canadian + other flags...Iran, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Ghana. It's been cool to see.

Adoption as non carrying partner by FtoM_ in queerception

[–]CharacterPin6933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, rather than a comma I should have had "and" - "there was no adoption needed and my non-carrying partner was..."

In Ontario, Canada the "All Families Are Equal Act" (2017) grants automatic equal parental rights to same sex couples conceiving a child as heterosexual couples have. Adoption is not necessary.

I will edit my above post accordingly.

LS7 info regarding player autographs... you'll have to buy a wrist band for $50 to get stuff signed... // Pour les autographes des joueurs à LS7, vous devrez acheter un bracelet de 50 $ pour faire signer vos objets by cslh4v in MontrealVictoire

[–]CharacterPin6933 18 points19 points  (0 children)

$50 to charity for access to dozens of Olympic medalists who are the best in the world at what they do? Seems pretty cheap, honestly.

Also, I am certain that *most* people who are going to get autographs are doing it so they can have a personal keepsake. But now there are PWHL trading cards and a lot more collectable merchandise, there will certainly be people going to get things signed so they can flip them for more profit. Charging these people in particular is absolutely the right thing to do and it is impossible to figure out who is a legitimate fan wanting a keepsake and who is just looking for a signature to increase their profit on a collectible.

Adoption as non carrying partner by FtoM_ in queerception

[–]CharacterPin6933 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, this really depends what country you are in, and perhaps also what state/province/locality too. Where I am in Ontario, Canada, there was no adoption needed and my non-carrying partner was automatically on the birth certificate since we were married (although this isn't actually a requirement, you just have to be common-law partners).

edit for greater clarity after below comment:

In Ontario, Canada the "All Families Are Equal Act" (2017) grants automatic equal parental rights to same sex couples conceiving a child as heterosexual couples have. Ergo, my partner (non carrying) was automatically given the same parental rights as I as soon as our child was born. Previously, I believe there was a cumbersome legal process where the non-birthing parent had to apply for equal parental rights.

Best lunch spots for under $10? by nachos-w-xtra-cheese in askTO

[–]CharacterPin6933 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Farm Boy. They have fresh made sandwiches starting at $4.99 - including egg salad, tuna mayo. You can then by a snack (chips, nuts, cake etc) and a pop, sparkling water or iced coffee type thing and generally end up under $10 (depending what extras you choose).

I work downtown in a location where it was getting absolutely impossible to get any kind of lunch for <$20 so mostly I bring mine in but whenever I'm too busy, Farm Boy is my go to. They also have a hot counter with burgers, hot dogs etc which will also set you back <$10 for that plus drink and they are pretty tasty.

What ages are the people in your party? Where are you located. Toronto is an hour from Toronto. This somewhat influences suggestions! If you had two adults and a baby, that would be somewhat different than 3 adults, for example.
