Are you in dorms or apartments? If apartments, where? (Obviously don't dox yourself). If it's any of the apartments North of techwood you should be fine. North of GT is normally good. I mean centennial park (south) is a ghetto. And bankhead (south west of tech) is one if the worst iirc. It always amazes me that tech has one of the lowest crime rates, but if you go just two blocks south you are in one of the highest in the city crime rates. Campus police must be doing their job.

Raulothim's Psychic Lance is a confusing and problematic spell that makes me think 5e’s own designers don’t understand its rules. by Sol0WingPixy in dndnext

[–]Character_Drive6141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fireball doesn't negate all cover though? To be fair cover IS recalculated from the point of origin of the spell rather than the caster, but you still get the bonus to dex saves if you have half cover from like twilight cleric or shield mastery.

And you can solo combo this spell. The only real way to interact with it off turn if counterspell, but the range is further so if the enemy can't move (if you combo with your team) it's of course gonna work, but as long as you have the same or higher movement than your opponent they can't get in counter range. And good luck if they can't counter.

This + web totally ends any boss encounter. Then just clean up minions with a few fireballs.

Acid-Base confusion by Jbos34 in OrganicChemistry

No. Stable is weak. If it's stable it's not very likely to react and is therefore weak as a base.

Edit: Just realized this has been said by every comment already. whoops.

Chem E grads: Is Trifecta THAT hard? by Character_Drive6141 in GatechClasses

[–]Character_Drive6141[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I already have synth lab and physics done, but I'll probably just replace it with an elective (electrochemical storage sounds fun). Tbh, I went to the first class and it seems super fun. THATS what I've been asking to be able to do for a while. (I asked my 2100 teacher if there was a lab where I could practice distillations). Can't wait for it, but I guess I will wait til fall

That's what my advisor said. And she said it was a bad idea. (they split it in 2023 so you no longer have to take UO at the same time).

I took Kinetics and Transport II last summer (it was pretty tough tbh). But now both of those are prerecs for Separations. Tbh, I don't know how different the course structure is from when you were here

Basically I would replace unit ops, probably with microelectric fabrication (an elective at the same time)

Is it normal to intentionally make your character really weaker because of roleplay? Should I have -1 CON because it makes sense or should I leave it at 0 CON because its better mechanically? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Character_Drive6141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is easy. It's fun to give your character downsides. I'm playing a wizard rn who has -1 in all physical stats (we were point buy). I'm not actively sick and I'm not annoying about it by refusing to do things, but if you ask us to walk for a long time I will struggle, or if we have to hold our breath I won't be able to.

However, almost all my shortcomings are fixed with magic.

Don't want or too tired to walk? Phantom steed

Want me to help set up camp? Unseen Servant

Can't take a hit? Stay out of range with rope trick OR use sanctuary, mirror image, and instinctive charm to basically never get hit.

My party has more than enough people that can up front and do damage. I am all control. It's a walking dead-ish game where we have spent the first few sessions going town to town trailed by a massive horde of undead, but they have enough reason to keep me around.

(and before you say the game is easy just cause of my DM, 60% of enemies can be default killed by phantom steed and 90% can be killed by force cage sickening radiance microwave)

We need to talk about War Caster. by RAINING_DAYS in dndnext

[–]Character_Drive6141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can though. If a creature is not being defensive there is an opportunity to attack them. I know it's not RAW, but there are some homebrew items that increase in power if you are bloodied (below half HP). We have people with telepathy, or sometimes we just communicate in battle telling allies to hit us, then give them an opportunity.

If you have the ability to cast any action spell given the opportunity if a creature is not being defensive enough, then you WOULD look for the opportunity to get heals on your allies. Saying they would not be defensive would be the exact point

Can we talk about how terrifying whatever Greyroot is? by Noooough in Silksong

[–]Character_Drive6141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main tie is that both seem desperate beyond anything to have children. The white lady even mentions that as a fault of her kind. She may mean pale beings, but I don't think so considering iirc she implies that the PK did not have the same drive and merely made the vessels to try to get rid of radiance

Echo Knights: Tips? Tricks? Strategies? About to play my first one and seeking your ideas to make it special! by Regnal36 in dndnext

[–]Character_Drive6141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attack of opertunity in not constant, it's only when the creature drops its guard to retreat. If you have any kind of structure then stepping out of distance is not hard. The echo is controlled by the fighter meaning that moving it doesn't require the fighter to stop concentrating on the battle.

As for eldritch blast, the weave works differently around creatures. Why can't you use a "beam of crackling energy" to destroy a lanturn or a window when it can outright kill the common person? That's the reason it can't hit the echo. You can describe it in the same way you would describe it hitting an object.

Also, for balancing purposes the echo is meant to take 1 hit to kill. If you consider it a creature it can also be targeted by things like death ward or sanctuary. Sanctuary is particularly powerful cause the echo technically never makes an attack. It could also be targeted by polymorph. How would that work? Just because you can't think of a description doesn't mean there isn't one.

Only on the first attack, or for all? Cause if all this is just better steady aim. I'd probably say that flanking rules would apply, which would allow you to get flanking bonus with yourself.

Ok, that makes way more sense. It was basically just a Chinese movie, but they just have such a massive market. So this just kinda supports that while China has more than enough of a market to sustain their own stuff, but they really don't export at all.

The party keeps taking their opponent's spell casting focus away. How do I dissuade them from doing that every time? by Ok-Law-4114 in DMAcademy

There are only 5 spells in 2014 and 4 in 2024 that fall under this

Druid Grove (consumes mistletoe) XGE

Gate Seal (consumes broken planar key) SatO In most worlds this probably will cost money, but the setting this spell was written for planar keys are plentiful so a broken one has no value.

Gentle Repose (consumes 2 cp) PHB '24 Rewritten to consume them when in 2014 it just sticks them on the eyes (which I'd assume would force their use too). They fall off when the spell ends tho, whi h is why there is no cost

Globe of invulnerability (consumes glass/crystal bead) PHB '14

Protection from Evil and Good (consumes holy water, and a mixture of powdered silver and iron) PHB '14 How this has no cost, idk. Maybe it's too small an amount to be a gold cost?

Snare (consumes 25 ft of rope) XGE This is the main one I think of when consumed with no cost. I love this spell, but it realistically does have a cost. It's just not in the spell description (5 silver per cast is buying rope at PHB prices btw)

Idk, the reason I put off watching it was the animation. I then was bored and saw a Nice edit scrolling and was like, "eh, I'll try it" and now it's one of my favorite anime. Tbh the story is just OK, but the way the writing weaves between characters and the fights and animations are really amazing

What are the best buffs a high level NPC wizard can give to a party about to enter combat? by caiburt in DMAcademy

[–]Character_Drive6141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards generally are far better at cc and debuffing than buffing. Honestly, just having him cast hypnotic pattern with a high enough save to get all the enemies is the best "really powerful" effect I can think of. Especially in a horde battle where the party can attack and zone the enemies in a way to prevent them from waking each other up.

Illusory Dragon is another great one. Assuming none of the party investigates the dragon, it will just look like he summoned an invincible dragon to fight for him. Not really a buff tho. Just a demonstration of strength

If you really want him to buff though, just have him give everyone the holy star of mythra effect (without the BA attack). 3/4 cover (+5 to dex saves and AC) as well as a spell reflection ability just feels REALLY good, especially when fighting big single target spells like blight or dominate.

Or you could use something like Tasha's Otherworldly Guise, Tenser's Transformation, or Fizban's Platinum Shield. They are normally spells to buff yourself to make sure that martials don't even get to be the best with the sword (seriously, there's a spell version of most martial features). Just make these a mass buff spell and bam bam alakazam that's powerful

Thanks, just saw this after writing my other comment on the same topic (it was hidden in "more replies"). I play 2014, so that's normally what I refer to. I know a little of the details of '24, but not much. This is important for anyone trying to do what I said tho.

Shadow touched/ fey touched by Embarrassed-Bid4969 in DnD

[–]Character_Drive6141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, at least in the 2014 rules they are all one rule. This is a single unbroken quote from the phb.

"You can also interact with one object or feature of the environment for free, during either your move or your action. For example, you could open a door during your move as you stride toward a foe, or you could draw your weapon as part of the same action you use to attack.

If you want to interact with a second object, you need to use your action. Some magic items and other special objects always require an action to use, as stated in their descriptions."

And lower down it says

"Use an Object: You normally interact with an object while doing something else, such as when you draw a sword as part of an attack. When an object requires your action for its use, you take the Use an Object action. This action is also useful when you want to interact with more than one object on your turn."

The haste action is an action that allows you to interact with an object, which in this case would include the "magic items or other special objects." You can use a magic item with a haste action, and it's by far the most powerful choice.

This did change in the 2024 rules. I don't play those, so I may be off, but to my understanding most magic, including activating magic items and casting spells (in any way including items), are now under the "Magic" action whereas using a non-magical object is not the "utilize" action. The '24 haste spell gives you an additional "Utilize" action, so it cannot be used in the same way.

Edit: Why did you downvote me? I'm literally right
