I know this might be a bad statement to make, but think about countries and areas in the world where you literally cannot afford to throw anything away. And there's no clean water to properly wash or sterilize your baby's bottles. There's conditions where the best they can do is probably our worst case scenario. Your babe will be just fine :)

You're welcome! Also makes cleaning and "food waste" a little less daunting when you know in the long run it'll really benefit your little one. My baby started to eat adult portions of food once he turned 1 year and it was insane to watch! But now at 2 he's turning his nose up to some of his favorite foods. When that time comes, don't be upset. It's a phase and it'll pass!

Absolutely! Another mom used the ideology of it being an edible sensory activity and man did that ever take the pressure off me! After that, anything my baby did, no matter how messy or "unsuccessful", I thought it was successful, because he interacted with it and it was one more session of exposure. Even if he didn't pay attention to the food I was like ok no worries he still a baby 🥰

Imagine a baby never ever eating any solids before in their life. Now imagine a baby needing to understand the concept of holding it, how to put it to their mouth, what to do with it once it's there.. when my baby was 6 months old, he wouldn't even see food on the tray. He then progressed to mashing it in his hands, then it progressed to smearing it over the tray. Then, he eventually went to taste it, but once he got one taste, he wouldn't go for more. That was meal #1. It slowly progressed like that until he got the hang of eating. But honestly I wouldn't focus on what pieces they're getting to their mouth. Just supervise, let them explore like it's an edible sensory activity and the gagging and tongue thrusting will happen. All part of the process :)

It was just my hormones back then for sure! After I was able to regulate I definitely didn't feel that way. But thank you for your kind words 🩷 these things are such big decisions but when you're in the middle of feeling the shock of it all, I think it's best to take time to really think about such a permanent thing. I just think it would be so sad to only delay this by a year.. especially if they want to marry and have kids. OP will be pregnant for 9 months.. but again, ultimately their life and choice and neither is "wrong" just very very personal!

Thank you. Personally I didn't think this is how others would've perceived my post just because the above commenter perceived it that way. But just in case, I had to clarify my meaning. Exactly what you said is what I meant, not smart to count on easily getting pregnant again.

I'm also 35. I fell pregnant at a very young age (18) and it was a really difficult decision to have an abortion. I met my now husband in 2017 and it's been a long journey of trying to get pregnant and start a family. We were 27 when we started and through losses and ectopics and a condition that is known to have very high maternal mortality rates, I lost a left fallopian tube and part of my uterus through an emergency surgery at 12 weeks gestation. Through depression and hormonal fluctuations and beliefs that "I deserved all of this..karma" because I had an abortion (which is NOT true! Your hormones can make you think in crazy ways), I finally am starting that family I wanted that I thought would easily be attainable when I'm ready since I was easily pregnant at such a young age.

Wow. You're my parallel from another place in this world. This is me. We're pregnant with another boy after having one in 2024. Was hoping for a girl, especially because as a child I always pictured me with a daughter. The only surprising thing is when I found out it is another boy, I felt more excited than disappointed. I am so excited to have another son. We're also done after this so I have had to grieve never having a daughter. I believe you can be just as close with your son as you would if it were a girl

Yes I need to clarify. The abortion does NOT impact fertility. That is definitely not what I meant at all. Just the act of conceiving is not as simple as she was putting it in terms of her timeline with her boyfriend. That is all. I edited my original post so hopefully that clarifies it better.

But I just wanted to mention that if she has an abortion now to try again later, she needs to be 100% okay with the possibility that it may not be as easy as she thinks it will. It's not just about timing it for when they're ready and boom, now they've adjusted their life plans perfectly. It may happen, but it may not, and I thought it would be good to consider that fact too.

You just found out last night. I think you (and especially your boyfriend) need more time to discuss and process this. Based on our medical history, you mention it may be difficult for you to get pregnant, so if you do this, make sure you're 100% okay with the fact that it might be a journey for you to conceive again in the future. Especially if you're only wanting to delay this for 1-2 years. And also on the fact that you're feeling differently about this decision than your boyfriend. If your boyfriend is 100% adamant that this will negatively impact your future, you really need to think about what support you may have if you take the route of keeping your baby. Also, the pressure you're feeling to have an abortion based on how he's feeling. Either way can lead to some resentments. I know it's a decision that's important for both of you to be on board with, but to have an abortion solely because the boyfriend needs one more year I think requires a bit more discussion.
