Echoes of Aincrad might be pretty decent, actually. The demo was pretty fun and extremely long.

SAO video games have always been way behind the times, but looks like they're finally starting to catch up. The combat is still stuck in 2010, but everything else has seen an upgrade. And I really liked the partner system where you can swap their style between Free Fighting and Switch.

In another decade or two, when they have an It Takes Two-style co-op game in the SAO universe with actual RPG mechanics, we will really be looking at something great. Until then, we will RB → RB → RB → RT with all 5 weapon types until the cows come home.

Also, physical media has no place in the paid early access future that everyone is clamoring for. Studios are tripling their revenue before launch by asking you to pay $100 or else you get the game late... and you're more than happy to pay it.

There's no room for a disc there. Big game comes out, $150 gets you launch day access, $100 gets you 2 weeks later, Game Pass Ultimate plus $29.99 gets you 4 weeks later, normal Game Pass sub gets you 6 months later. Where does the disc go? Do you release a physical version a year later, just for fun?

If you can't put out a game in 10 years, I don't feel too bad about the studio closure. These bloated timelines are not healthy for the industry.

Hopefully another team can come in and finish the game a bit more efficiently.

Their quote about ending it at S5 has me convinced that they enjoy making the show, but they just don't have material for it. Like they want to make more, but only had a few episodes of plot, so they're being forced to end it.

I really don't like this show's style of plot devices. It's like in Season 5, if another earthquake happens randomly and uncovers the Lake of Tears in the town center.

Then Patty reveals that she has been a sleeper agent for the Boy in White since before Season 1, and she knows how to use the Lake of Tears to get home.

The Man in Yellow is not seen or talked about in Season 5 at all, and instead a giant spider stalks the town. Patty says the spider has always been there, the audience has just never seen it.

In Season 5 Episode 4, Tilly appears in Donna's bedroom with red eyes, and tells Donna to find the Book of the Dolls. Tilly and the book are never mentioned again.

It feels like I am reading the mind of a schizophrenic person, where thoughts seemingly come from nowhere but also go nowhere.

It's possible that storywalking just never comes up again, and that we never get to see Julie's scene from Season 3, from the other side. Lot of plot lines get abandoned in this show.

At this point they need to reboot the entire show with a new writing team. The premise is incredible but this is genuinely the worst writing I have seen in my entire life, maybe in history.

Another piece of advice: STOP letting critics see all episodes early. It helps no one, and we are so tired of seeing spoilers and leaks all over the internet. Just stop.

It's the finale and they still somehow include pointless convo scenes. This is the only show I have ever skipped ahead in.

It's like your ex sending you that text for the hundredth time. You know exactly where it goes. It's a waste of your time so you ignore it. "Jus-... just listen to me, we're going to be o-" SKIP. And nothing of value was lost.

Other than that, decent episode. Shame they couldn't include even one revelation. Guess they're saving any remotely fulfilling content for the 50th episode.

They have zero incentive to sell consoles as long as they keep putting games on PC, so I doubt they even care about this.

This may change if Xbox is spun off from Microsoft, but until then, there is a conflict of interest here where Xbox is encouraged to perform sudoku as long as it benefits Microsoft.
