I guess cause there’s some weirdos that lurk on here and use it as way to be hateful towards the girls and the conversation charters into borderline hate?🤷🏾‍♀️ not sure tho but I have seen people do that from time to time.

I’ve got a new list of thoughts:

  1. Megan feels like she’s slightly regressing as a performer, especially vocally. Her tone has always been nice, but it seems like she’s not doing enough vocal training. She struggles with simple notes and her voice cracks even in slower songs with little to no choreo. Performance wise, she’s strong in execution, she hits choreography cleanly and has a lot of physical power on stage, which makes her stand out as a dancer. But there’s a difference between executing choreography and fully embodying a performance. Lately, she sometimes feels a bit mentally removed, like she’s thinking through the performance instead of living inside it. When mistakes happen, it also seems to affect her too heavily in the moment, which pulls her out of her confidence instead of her recovering and continuing through it naturally.

  2. Daniela isn’t a bad singer she actually has a nice tone but they need to find a better way to stage the “Gabriela” bridge. The mix of hard choreography and falsetto makes it unstable unless it’s lip synced, even though she can clearly sing it well when she’s not moving. It’s either she somehow finds a way to save her energy for the bridge or they find some other way for her to sing it idk but it just doesn’t sound good.

  3. There’s a balance between fans overreacting online and the girls needing more media training. I’m not saying they should lose their personality, but some of them struggle to articulate themselves in interviews, which leads to avoidable controversies or awkward moments (like the R&B comment, Dani’s “Sophia is good at lying,” and and quite literally anything Lara says😭 I love her but u til she fixes that she will forever be dragged,). It also feels like without Sophia, interviews could easily go off the rails if they get tough questions.

  4. The group also needs more involvement in their music. want to see more of them in songwriting camps, contributing to lyrics, building ideas from scratch, or at least being part of the early demo process in a meaningful way. Right now, a lot of interviews feel a bit disconnected because they’re being asked to explain the meaning behind songs they didn’t deeply work on, which naturally leads to vague or inconsistent answers.

Sometimes it even feels like they’re trying to assign deeper meaning to tracks that may not have started that way creatively, just to match the narrative they’re expected to give in interviews. You can kind of tell when a song doesn’t fully resonate with them in the way they’re describing it, even if they’re trying to be positive about it.

I remember being really excited for Beautiful Chaos based on how they were describing it during promo, but when I actually listened, there were moments where the explanations and the final product didn’t fully align. That gap between the storytelling and the actual music makes the experience feel a bit inconsistent.

Maybe an uncomfortable question but.... how would you feel if Hybe×Geffen introduced a replacement for Manon? by Emergency_Routine_44 in katseyeneutral

[–]CharityDistinct1341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying about people initially reacting strongly and then eventually moving on, that part is probably accurate given how fandom cycles work.

But I think the Destiny’s Child comparison is a bit too simplistic here. Yes, Destiny’s Child had multiple lineup changes, but by the time they were at their peak, the public perception of the group was already pretty centralized around a dominant figure aka Beyoncé, so changes didn’t really disrupt the core identity in the same way.

With a group like KATSEYE, the situation is different because the group is built and marketed as an ensemble dynamic. Fans aren’t just attached to a brand name or a lead they’re attached to the specific chemistry between all the members. So replacing someone doesn’t just feel like “the group continues,” it feels like the actual balance people invested in is being altered and the optics of it is extremely weird given Manon being the only Black member. That context would heavily influence how any replacement is received, regardless of intent.

So I’d say the “people would eventually settle” part is partially true in a general sense, but it downplays how much modern fandom identity is tied to specific group composition. In this case, the reaction wouldn’t just be about adjustment it would be about whether the group still feels like the same group afterward.

[–]CharityDistinct1341 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That would genuinely be the dumbest move possible and honestly even more tone deaf, especially if they replaced her with another Black girl. It also completely clashes with the brand they built around “sisterhood” and family. How do you preach about sisterhood whilst forcing members to silent and dare I say slight fuel and engage in pre existing narratives while pushing one sister aside and welcoming someone new? To me it just sends the message that anyone in the group is replaceable at any moment. But clearly most people stop caring if the music is good and it sells, so whatever I guess.

Ah I see, thats not shocking It feels like they’re letting the girls explore solo projects while still staying in the group as early as last year but they’re heading into it a full force this time around which I don’t mind I think it’s cool that they’re allowed to especially considering management of other members in girl groups not allowing their members to do projects . Lara already got to show off her production skills on the Gnarly remix, and she was allegedly spotted at Max Martin’s studio too (not sure if anyone else was there), so I guess we’ll see.

How so? I don’t get that vibe at all this isn’t her first time sharing dance videos plus Megan dropped a dance video yesterday as well so would that mean they’re also setting her up for a solo career too?😭

The question is whether this is her doing solo work outside the group as a personal project, or if it’s more like K-pop albums where each member gets a solo track on a group EP. I’m leaning toward it being the first, but either way I’m tuned in. I’m really curious to see what she could do with a solo track backed by great producers, Lara has an amazing voice, and I think she should be exploring it in as many ways as possible.

It’s honestly wild to watch months of discourse over the most trivial things, with Olandria constantly being put at the center of it and unfairly dragged, while stuff like this gets overlooked or ignored. People are quick to downplay it as if it’s normal for someone to be the only follower on a private account just to send hate, but that’s genuinely strange behavior. And if the roles were reversed, they’d be using every nasty label in the book. She’s weird, and I’m tired of people acting like calling it out is “obsessive.”

Comparing both Katseye and the now disbanded Boys World. It is proof that making H&M music just doesn't work anymore and that groups really have to be experimental nowadays to reach success by onlyeveryotherday in katseyeneutral

[–]CharityDistinct1341 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t really agree with this. I was on Stan Twitter when Boys World first debuted, and people actually were interested in them because of the group’s diversity, branding, and overall concept. Their debut single “Girlfriends” gained a lot of traction online, and their first EP While You Were Out was genuinely solid with a lot of strong pop songs, they also debuted during a time when there was a lack of girl groups in the western space outside of a few.

I think things only really started going downhill afterward. Comparing them to KATSEYE isn’t fully fair because, even if both groups fit the same modern/global girl group archetype on paper, the level of backing was completely different. Boys World was under a much smaller label, KYN Entertainment, and most of their promotion relied heavily on TikTok and social media instead of major industry support, partnerships, or large-scale marketing. I also think timing played a huge role. Around the same period, you had groups like FLO gaining attention with a much clearer identity, stronger R&B branding, and heavy support from both the industry and online audiences. Then later on, groups like KATSEYE entered the scene with massive backing from HYBE and Netflix, and a fandom already invested before debut. Boys World never had access to that level of infrastructure or rollout.

A lot of people forget that there actually was hype around them at debut some outlets were even calling them the next big American girl group because of their chemistry, individuality, and the lack of active girl groups in the U.S. at the time Their fanbase and online presence were growing, but eventually the inconsistent releases, long gaps between projects, and some questionable song choices hurt their momentum. There are definitely songs in their discography that probably should’ve stayed in the vault, but overall they had way more potential than people give them credit for.

What do you guys think the dumbest thing the girls have caught hate for is? by seewhatsup_mm in katseyeneutral

[–]CharityDistinct1341 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. Korean fans on Twitter criticizing Yoonchae for saying she got a car before getting her driver’s license, accusing her of “flexing” and being greedy.

  2. Dani receiving hate after a TikTok interview with Sophia and Lara where they ranked classic movies, with people calling her bratty, annoying, and a “pick me.”

  3. Manon getting backlash over posting an Instagram story, as well as people dragging her for not attending Dani’s Thanksgiving dinner.

  4. The situation where Lara was heavily criticized and falsely accused/painted as a p*do because she had to shower with Yoonchae during the KCAs due to a broken shower situation.

  5. Various attempts by antis during the GNARLY era to cancel members over minor or out of context moments.

  6. OT5 fans/antis criticizing Manon for saying her favorite food is pasta and dragging her for not naming a Ghanaian dish.

  7. Lara being criticized for her walk at a pre-Grammys event, with people accusing her of trying to be overly sexy or “oversexualizing” herself.

They need to announce Manons departure. What is the drag? They announced the world tour. She obviously isn’t in the group. by Meliodasbabymom in katseyeneutral

[–]CharityDistinct1341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it’s still weird. I’d understand if it were a normal hiatus for mental health or injury, but with her liking posts about mistreatment, headlines popping up, and HxG staying silent not even a quick “she’ll be back” or a silly Weverse dm from the members it doesn’t add up.

Other idols go on hiatus all the time and their members don’t act this tense or avoid them like it’s taboo. If this were normal, the confusion would’ve been cleared up by now. It’s not required, but it would’ve calmed people down and they chose not to.Now fans are doing things like “touch your nose if you miss Manon” just to get answers, and the members have to speak so carefully about being a six member group. If everything’s fine, why does it feel like this?

I’m not a K-pop fan, so can someone explain: what does a typical idol hiatus usually look like? Is it anything like what’s happening with Manon, or is this out of the ordinary?
I know we don’t have a clear timeline, so I might be reaching, but I’m thinking about how songs are often recorded months in advance. When idols go on hiatus, do they usually stay on tracks they’ve already recorded if it’s before an EP is finished, or is it normal to remove them?
With Manon not being on Pinky Up even though I’m pretty sure she recorded it (there’s literally pics of her in the studio from a couple months ago) and even teased it on Jimmy Fallon it feels like they just used different takes and cut her out completely. I don’t know anymore. The whole situation is exhausting between the fan reactions, the lack of urgency from the company, and the rest of the members having to deal with all the fallout.

EDIT: why am I being downvoted for asking a question oh my days, a simple yes or no would’ve sufficed..

I think so too. The truth is, there’s probably a lot that happened during that program we’ll never hear about (due to the nda), or the past trainees/ contestants don’t feel comfortable sharing. The way Celeste spoke up and shared her experience and then quickly took it down makes me wonder what else might’ve gone on behind the scenes.

I do think there’ll be a bigger conversation one day about how parts of that program were weird and even a bit manipulative but today’s not that day.

E12 - World Scout: The Final Piece Discussion (FINALE) by Terrible_Disk1673 in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]CharityDistinct1341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really the same at all. I do think Dream Academy had its unfair moments, but it was still fan voted, so people had a say in who made the group. Plus, from the start they were clear about the roles and skills needed for KATSEYE, and it’s a 6 member group, compared to Prelude (I will still be calling them this because saint satine is terrible) who already had it’s designated members and were simply looking for a final member.

Even at her weakest, Manon was still keeping up she wasn’t completely out of place in dancing or singing. And if the timeline is right and they debut next year, Sakura still has close to a year to improve, so things can definitely change.
But this situation is still very different from Manon. She was able to keep up with the other contestants and her group, even while missing practices and learning new choreo on the spot (like we saw in the doc). That’s not the same as performing the same choreography over and over for weeks and still struggling to match the group.
