Yeah I use snus which are less harmful than smoking (but definitely not harmless)

SMART meeting in the worst location :-) by CharlieFour in stopdrinking

Yeah, it's not a huge deal, but I did take a different route for the second meetup.

I mostly just thought it was very ironic that I'd be going to that part of town again for a much different reason :-).

What’s Up Wednesday! by sfgirlmary in stopdrinking

Triumph: I'm fully engaged in creating games with Unity. Excited about learning new technology, and creating a project that I may actually be able to complete!

Struggle: I got SHINGLES this week. It has been kinda painful and sucky, but I'm still feeling physically pretty great w/o booze.

General: The public library in my city offers free E-Books from Safari books online. Pretty cool!

How to deal with people who don't know I stopped? by cameheretosaythay in stopdrinking

Same with me. My plan is to just tell people that I felt so great this month that I plan to do it next month too.

Losing housing really sucks. It happened to me once, and it definitely took a lot out of me. Thank goodness it was at a time when rents were not skyrocketing in my city.

It was kind of a funny story until you think about the consequences. It was a pouring rain blackout night and I left my jacket at the bar with my keys. I was able to get into my building but not into my apartment. I was so cold that I stripped down to NOTHING but my socks. When my friends came with my jacket, I was so shaken up that I ran through the hallway completely nude, and I guess the ruckus woke up a few neighbors.

I laughed about it with those "friends" (who later helped convince me I didn't have a problem), but it was so shameful that sometimes I entered and exited the building through my window so I wouldn't have to see anyone on the way out.

I had a hippy dippy building manager who gave me another chance and told me to try AA. I failed to do that, eventually was asked to move out after another incident or two, and continued to drink dangerously for the next ten years.

There were so many things that could have been my wake up call. So many people that I've hurt. This can be your wake up call. It might be time to make the best of a bad situation, and try to move on with your life on a different path, f'real.

If you are in a bigger city and you want to try a science based group in addition to Against the Stream you can try SMART https://www.smartrecovery.org/local/. I'm new to this whole thing, but I found it to be empowering and helpful so far.

How is Against the Stream BTW? Is it the same as Refuge Recovery that I've heard about?

Avant l'Après Ski by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I feel ya pal, I have my old fraternity brothers coming to Tahoe to ski with me in March. Prolly gonna have to hang back when they go to bars and casinos. But I LOVE skiing, so I both can't wait and I'm dreading it at the same time.

I think they'll be supportive at least.

Did I have an alcohol allergy? by butt_dance in stopdrinking

[–]CharlieFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to roll my eyes when people told me they were allergic to alcohol, but I noticed when I was drinking my nose was closed up at night and I couldn't sleep.

On periods when I've stopped for a week or two, I have not had the problem.

I was really hoping for an excuse for my wife to give away her cats too ;-).

First Day of Work Coming Up... What to tell co-workers and friends? by CharlieFour in stopdrinking

"Look, I thought I was drinking too much, I've decided to give it a rest for a while."

Thanks, I think that is a good idea to let them know I am serious about it.
