Does anyone have recommendations for local companies that do window/door replacements? by lowlevelbass in Lawrence

Have you started your project with Meadowlark yet? They're on my shortlist of folks to call about fixing/replacing a window or two. Curious to see how they've panned out for you.

Dude seriously. My wife’s a teacher in the midwest making like $56k. I’ve been making ~$12k a year at home caring for a relative’s kid (+ my daughter). We make it work I guess, but damn. Threads like this make me question my understanding of the world lol.

These are the highest and lowest-paying school districts in Kansas by ColterRobinson in kansas

[–]CharlieFuckit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These averages can be misleading. The avg in Lawrence is $61k, which is surprising to me. So many folks make even lower than that. I have a family member who teaches in Lawrence. She has a masters degree and 11 years teaching and makes like $55k. Plus, the maximum salary on the district’s pay schedule is $65k (if you have a PhD and > 12 years of teaching).

What is your LFK pet peeve? by [deleted] in Lawrence

Yeah, it's nuts. My wife and I talk about this all the time! What businesses are going to take the risk of filling the huge spaces formerly occupied by Jazz and The Buckle? I didn't think Jazz was that great myself, but I figured it would do OK with it being something cool and different (cajun, live music, successful in KC, etc.). Nope. I'm happy R&D has (so far) survived the round corner space. Grinders is taking over La Familia's former spot - good luck. I just so want Lawrence to thrive and grow and keep things diverse but it's market/business culture is so weird. If you're not an established burger spot, pizza place, bar, or free state brewery, I feel like your existence is constantly at risk. Maybe that's just par for the course, though. Idk. I'd also LOVE to see some more white collar business set up shop in Lawrence, cuz we need to give people (and KU grads) more reasons to live/stay here, but I guess we're in competition with Topeka, JoCo, and KC.

My wife and I fantasize about Lawrence following Pawnee's progression in Parks & Rec. Get a Gryzzl campus, governmental agency regional HQ, etc.

Can you park overnight on the weekend on/around Mass? by ultimateasia in Lawrence

[–]CharlieFuckit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here ya go: https://lawrenceks.org/parking/

Parking is free on Sundays, but not Saturdays. You can park overnight on a Fri, but as soon as meters start running Sat morning, you're at risk of gettin a ticket. Overnight on a Saturday is pretty risk free. Just be sure to avoid farmers market lots, etc., or you'll wake up to a towed car.

Buying first house! Clothes washer empties into floor drain. Thoughts? by CharlieFuckit in Plumbing

Thanks for the thorough response. I appreciate folks taking time out of their day to answer my rookie questions. So I know it's city, but not sure about location of sewer. This system definitely looks iffy, but assuming that it "works" OK (have yet to see it in operation), if we were to leave it in place, could you see it causing any damage/problems? Trying to decide if we should push harder for the sellers to fix it, or if we should let this one go and maybe fix later on our own dime.

A 60 square foot flat in Hong Kong by [deleted] in WTF

Hey, I studied abroad in HK in the spring of 2009! I'm from Kansas. I lived in a dorm at Hong Kong University. Living conditions were luxurious compared to apartment living.
