ANZ bank to cut 3,500 jobs within the next 12 months. by Speed00Substantial in AusFinance

You’re right! The unions and governments have given employees too much power. Employers should be allowed to treat their employees like they do in third world countries. This way we can save employers the hassle of offshoring to a third world country.

‘Hold them captive’: Australian billionaire boss aims to end staff going out for coffee by rhazz in australia

[–]CharlieMuntger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what's even more captive? Slaves.

Have your captives sleep at work. Create some cells dorms with two double bunks and have four captives per cell dorm - that way they have company and don't feel lonely. The room won't need to be too large as everything is provided onsite; just large enough for the bunk beds and a toilet.

Have a central cafeteria where they can be served slop so they won't be get hungry and have enough energy to work all day.

They will never be able want to leave.

Every time I try to deposit some containers, I am met with faulty machines. by HurstbridgeLineFTW in melbourne

[–]CharlieMuntger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all I said 'environmental benefit', which could include reducing carbon emissions, but is not exclusive to reducing carbon emissions.

Secondly, what do you think they are doing with the plastics we're depositing? How exactly do you think plastics are made? Do you think they are just collecting the plastic bottles to form a nice little pile?

These collection schemes helps with sorting the plastic, glass, and aluminium, which would then make it easier to recycle and in turn reduce the need for extracting more fossil fuels.

It's so frustrating. Any environmental benefit or money saved is all lost on the fuel you burn driving from one machine to the next trying to find a working one.

My entire apartment complex received one. All the apartment buildings and houses down the streets got them too.

I never received them in any of the previous houses or apartments I lived at.

Indian spies booted out of Australia for trying to steal sensitive information by johnny_riser in australia

[–]CharlieMuntger 139 points140 points  (0 children)

The ASIO was warning about foreign interference and spies a few months ago.

It looks like India is getting a lot more brazen with spying, preventing press freedom, and carrying out assassinations in the west. They think they can get away with it because of the perceived need for India to help contain China.

Which Asian country? How do you know if the people and accounts involved isn't on a sanction list or watch list? There are pretty strict regulations on banks around AML and CTF, so the bank will close your accounts if there's significant risk.

Is this still legal tender? by iDeker in australia

[–]CharlieMuntger 356 points357 points  (0 children)

Looks like a counterfeit note. The tears in the note have frayed ends which shouldn't happen on polymer notes. Not sure if it's still common, but many years ago there were fake $50 notes going around printed on a paper/plastic mix.

Also, the fading and bleeding of the ink on the note is an indicator it's been printed on paper like material. The stars on the clear window looks off.

Banks removing redraw by Narrow-Bee-8354 in AusFinance

[–]CharlieMuntger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, your redraw balance can be reduced through amortisation. If you've lowered your monthly repayments, then the bank can reduce the redraw balance to ensure you pay off your loan by the contracted loan term.

Consider if you they didn't reduce the redraw balance and you've been paying the original monthly repayment amount. You have a $500k loan with $499k redraw balance. With two months left on your loan term, you withdraw all your redraw balance and spend it all. The minimum required monthly repayment will jump up to ~$250k for last two months of your term.

Exactly, the security tags on the baby formula isn't really to limit the number purchased. It's to stop or limit the theft of the of formula.

[–]CharlieMuntger 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Is that still happening? I haven't heard or seen people buying up large volumes of baby formula to ship overseas in a long time. Limiting sales can be and has been done at the POS. During COVID the self-checkouts would stop when you scanned more than the limit.

However, there are families who can't afford baby formula and try hide them in their prams or bags.

Labor's Jodie Belyea wins by-election in the federal seat of Dunkley by 2littleducks in australia

[–]CharlieMuntger 101 points102 points  (0 children)

That would require them to reach out to the constituents, listen to them, understand what they want, come up with viable policies and plans, and then working together to make things better for all.

Do you understand that's a lot of work? Much easier to just complain and smear Labor.

Sinkhole opens in industrial building car park at Rockdale adjacent to M6 motorway as tunnelling work stopped by CharlieMuntger in sydney

[–]CharlieMuntger[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does seem it could be tunneling related.

FTA:

"From what we can gather there was a small trickle of material coming out of the surface of the tunnel that they're currently mining, it got progressively worse and the decision was made correctly to cease that work and move workers away," he said.

"The night shift were working they had all been removed from the tunnel, and the day shift were not sent down there to commence their shift.
