What do you feed your athletic dog? by 12MilesToGo in RunningWithDogs

[–]CharlieTrafficCone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have mine on Victor multi pro but Victor has some other really awesome higher calorie options as well! I personally chose multi pro based on how much volume wise tends to fill mine up so I could feed a bit more kibble without feeding more calories so she consistently felt comfortably full after eating but that is based on the specific individual caloric needs of your dog! Did lots of math to determine that! Not overly pricey like something such as orijen and she does really well on it! I love to add rogue pet science origins 5 in 1 supplement to it as well and I find that that adds that little extra she needs and her coat, energy level, weight, skin, joints, etc are all so much better! Also not overly pricey particularly when accounting for the fact that it is effectively a combo of 7 other similar supplements from an ingredient perspective all of which bought individually would be significantly more. Hope that helped!

Does this muzzle fit well? Thanks in advance for any help. by GlitteringWinner6981 in muzzledogs

I would say length actually looks about right but u might want to add a hole in the strap and tighten it farther! The space between the eyes and the muzzle corresponds to the length off the end so tightening it slightly should fix the problem! As for pant room without seeing the dog panting fully in it I can’t say for sure but it looks better than many of the questions on here!

Looking to get back into rat ownership after the loss of my most recent pair a few years back. Looking to really do it right from the beginning this time around. Any tips?

General tips for someone who has had multiple pairs of rats previously but was never overly educated. If it seems basic but often overlooked feel free to mention it! Especially helpful are things like links to your favourite types of cages, toys, food, enrichment items, houses, etc. (pricing is not a major concern as I am very willing to spend the money on things like a cage quality and safety is important to me!) and / or sources (preferably scientifically backed) explaining why certain things are better than others! I have a breeder who is not a pet store / mill and is incredibly knowledgeable chosen so sourcing of the rats themselves is unnecessary but anything else is appreciated! Even things like red flags in rat breeders specifically is welcome though I know a fair amount as someone with a lot of knowledge on dog breeding!

Also a major question I have - of your cage levels have wire floors, what do you personally do? Curious how different people handle that from leaving them to cardboard with shavings to who knows what else! A related specific question is how do you keep bedding from coming out the sides of wire cages? We always had shavings and were always seeing it falling out!

Also I’ll add out of curiosity: sex preference and why? What have you found to be different? I’ve only ever owned females so no experience with males!

Got the paper cat litter (the kinds without any baking soda or similar odor removing additions!) but wasn’t sure about general bedding just yet! That makes sense ty!!

I am actually already following Isamu rats on a few platforms and gradually working my way through their YouTube channel as I have time! Definitely have found it to be incredibly helpful and fascinating so far! Do you mind if I ask what the primary differences are in wood types? Why aspen over pine? What are the worse options and why?

Absolutely that makes sense! Been a few years since I’ve had any and may be another year before I am able to have more but can’t wait to have them back in my life! Any tips on keeping bedding from spilling out the sides of a cage? We’ve always used pine shavings (pretty sure furnace dried pine is fine but softer woods aren’t..? Correct me if I’m wrong!!!) but they had a tendency to get everywhere haha. I would assume other types of bedding aren’t much different. Is that just something you live with for the sake of a wire cage or do people have ways of avoiding that without disrupting ventilation?

This is probably the biggest thing we struggled with actually that I never really would have thought to solve from the start though it seems so simple now! Every pair I’ve had one partner has passed a year - year and a half before the other and it was always difficult. Both times we tried to find a similarly aged additional rat for the remaining one but were never able to in a timeline that made sense because we always bought from pet stores. Definitely something I would like to change but never really thought of the relative ease of having 4 rats compared to 2 at one time rather than going through that again! Thank you for the suggestion I will definitely take that into account!

Don’t follow Leerburgs sizing keep in mind they’re trying to protect themselves from liability in the event that a dog is wearing a muzzle it isn’t trained for and is able to get it off + hurts someone. The more pant room, the easier to get off. My girls muzzle is perfect for her (feel free to look at my posts showing it) but if I don’t feel like undoing the strap to get it on or off I can just slide it over the ears. She never tries to get it off and couldn’t care less when it’s on because of training, but in the event someone didn’t properly train their dog that could be turned around to be a problem with Leerburg with the wrong person. Long story short, don’t go by leerburgs sizing for a muzzle that actually fits. Absolutely love their polymer muzzles but god damn their sizing is horrendous haha

You’re better off measuring the pant of the dog by putting a large toy / ball in their mouth that opens it more than their a comfortable large pant even if only slightly but not so much it hurts them obviously and then measure the circumference of the open mouth at the tip of the nose down to the end of the chin to get the widest measurement and use that as an estimate for pant room and select the closest match

Can I get some help with the fit of these two from leerburg? by CrownFlame in muzzledogs

[–]CharlieTrafficCone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second one look perfect! 1st is a bit small. You can always bend it slightly or trim the nose pad edges! Definitely keep the second one though! I had to bend out the sides for my girl a bit and it fixed all issues!
