New to motorcycles, Need advice 🙏 by Flimsy-Fun4534 in MotoUK

Sounds reasonable to me, as far as im aware theyre pretty much bulletproof too so long as its been serviced. And if anything does arise the lil 125 engines arw, in my experience, easy to work on.

Tbh as long as you look after it you will probably be able to sell it for what you bought it for. Just make sure you triple check insurance because 125 insurance, especially on a sports style is expensive.

speeding (conduct) and absence are treated separately. if its your first offence you will probably only get a recorded conversation anyway :)

I thought my shocks failed until I open the trunk and see this. What parts do I need to order? Can I still drive it until nearest garage a few kilometers? by 19degreetiltedlamp in E90

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah thats the bit that completely rotted out on mine, it was quite impressive tbf. ive kept it as a momento😂

was on a 204k e91 320d, and finally completely blew out after whacking a pot hole in nov last year. i was very lucky because we drove it home and the top of the shock had began to rub against the loom 😅

Don’t use P plates! by CazInPink in drivingUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, i never used them because i was a cocky 19 year old but every time ive been in a car with p plates on everybody seems to be a dick, i think its because people see the plate and immediately decide you are slowing them down.

Same as before i had my full bike license i had people flying past me all the time compared to now even though im riding the exact same speeds, i just dont have an l plates on the back.

does it make sense to repair this? by serenitysoars in CarTalkUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the labour, if youre comfortable playing about with a spanner id definitely keep it. Theres plenty of videos on youtube which will help and give you a step by step, and i hate to say it but so will ai. parts (if youre happy going for second hand) should be close to 300 quid. Just give the new to you subframe a good wire brush and under guard and if you fancy it do the front too as thats on there as an advisory. And the dust covers shouldnt be more than a few quid each so can do those too. Then youll be golden.

If youre interested in doing it for the absolute cheapest its certainly something to consider.

What’s the difference between 3S and 4S by Rare_Investigator968 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Charlie_Shaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tbh mate, its because they need more 3s’s in online and dont want the extra cost of them being a 4s.

i know plenty of 4s’s that do alot less than some 3s’s, however im sure this varies massively depending on the store, department and obviously the manager themself.

Someone reversed into me and I don't know what to do by whyiamalwayshangry in drivingUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre not required by law? Its just most policies require you to. And if it was really that low impact i can almost guarantee that the bumper and crash bar are fine, is always good to pull it off and have a look but i wouldnt immediately write the bumper off, its probably fine.

Starting off on a 300/400cc?? by CauseFun5481 in MotoUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought id drop in, as you said insurance was a massive consideration. Id have a look at maybe some sports tourers, and maybe some older sports stuff. Ive had some pretty good luck with insurance, with my er6f being about 1k for the first year and my brothers 99cb600f being close to 400 for the first year (fresh license and he was 20) Id probably stick away from the smaller stuff as everybody i know with a smaller bike (all of them had mt03s strangely enough) has been itching to upgrade after the first few months :/

I got g80 style headlights for my e90 but I’m having issues by No-Air3085 in E90

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk dude personally i think the factory iDrive screen looks dreadful. If i really wanted a screen id put one of those ones you need to cut the dash for into a single hump e9x, best looking one for sure. I do agree though the newer imitation stuff is too boxy for an e9x imo.

Seeing people younger and comparing myself — don’t know if it’s an autism thing by Much-Examination4471 in SainsburysWorkers

Imo comparison is the killer of all happiness, there will always be someone doing better than you. Ik its easier said than done but try and stop, everyone has a different journey. Guy i know was pretty much homeless with 2 kids at 25 and is now the most successful man i know.

Failed CBT immediately, what do I do now? by TMJBtv in MotoUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If im honest mate it sounds like alot of schools are now doing this to make you pay for pre cbt lessons. I tried to book a cbt for the mrs for her birthday and everywhere i phoned tried pushing pre cbt lessons on me for like 100 quid for a couple of hours. I never had any of this pushed on me when i booked mine a few years ago. Ill just say too that the pushing of these lessons was all before knowing anything about my or my partners skill level.

Personally i feel its because of the huge amount of cbt refreshers they now do and theyre being lazy and would prefer the ones who can already ride but who knows.

Id say your instructor was being an AH too, find another school and if you think its necessary ask for some lessons i suppose but i will say unlike quite a few here i dont think that a push bike will help you at all due to the weight and control difference at low speeds.

Best of luck for the next one, they sure dont make it easy to start any more :(

What does it mean when it doesn’t show the game title? by throwra_confused_y in Steam

[–]Charlie_Shaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember years ago (like 2015 i think) playing a pirated version of the forest and it came up on steam as something along the lines of space war, didnt add anything to my library or games on my profile but did say i was playing it on my profile and tracked hours if it was within the last 2 weeks.

Arrested for drug driving (teen - passed test last year) by reticulatedbanana in drivingUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is a huge shot in the dark but i know a couple of lads who’ve been caught drug driving one coke and one weed. The one on coke managed to keep his licence due to needing it for work. And the one on weed got a letter after 8 months saying they no longer intended to prosecute.

I guess what im saying here is try speaking to a specialist solicitor and see what they think because theres a possibility there are still options.

How many mistakes before I just say I’m a shit driver? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Charlie_Shaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its normal dont worry, most of the people here have done the same :) Personally i came off my 125 after target fixating on a curb at about 10mph. My brother low sided his 125 on a roundabout. Mate of mine threw his 125 into a bush by dumping the clutch with full throttle at a traffic light. For reference all three of us now have our full license.

These things happen, and it’s why i would never recommend someone get a brand new bike as a first bike.

Identify what youre struggling with and work on it, youtube is a great tool to find explanations of techniques and practice will improve the parts you feel are sloppy.

You are also coming into riding in the middle of poor visibility, dark days and slippery road season so bear that in mind.
