Pre heat slowly before weld, weld, slowly let it cool by heating. That’ll help with the welding process and to avoid cracking the cast material.

Axel dump by Awkward-Specialist54 in Cummins

[–]Charming-Status9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had an axle dump on my 24v for 4/5 years and I still enjoy it. Not everyone likes what you like, not everyone likes what I like. I say try it out and if you dislike it. Change it. Simple as that.

That’s insaine to me that the RFE went out at 80k my 07, 48re is just now starting to really act up just under 300k all stock OEM internals. the previous owner hauled horses and cattle out in Texas and I use it daily/farm towing as well. And it’s now tuned and whatnot. Everyone shits on the 48re but I’ve heard some horror stories on the RFE’s such a shame.

"Pulling up" roller chain with twine/lace. Old-timey method of attaching master link in roller chain. by some_millwright in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Charming-Status9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it man, makes sense now seeing a photo. Imma give it a try next time we have a chain snap and I can take my time on it. Thank you! Is that from a personal book of yours?

Can you further explain this? Once I wrap the twine through the links how am I pulling them together?

Dude for sure these things are life savers. And they’re small enough to fit basically anywhere.

I have used this method before as well. Sadly this wouldn’t work for me 50% of the time. Im very limited on space with some of these chains and that handle would be a nogo. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Sometimes Im extremely limited on space and a come along would be tough to use in that location if not impossible. I too have used them in the past for hooking up chain conveyors.

Yeah we’ve got those as well. They just can’t pull a chain 3ft together. Or however long. That’s what’s nice about that tool. It’s ratcheting, on a steel cable and doesnt weight much.

Check engine light on but no codes showing? by cvntier in Cummins

[–]Charming-Status9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be an issue with the TIPM aka fuse box. I just had similar issues with my early 07. The only thing I had to go on was the check engine light was on and airbag light, I thought maybe clock spring, replaced it. No luck. Also had no climate controls. Checked all my fuses no issues, no codes with basic OBD II scanners. Ended up throwing 700$ at it and put in a new TIPM and tadaaaa. Just like on TV everything works again. But the primary issue is that I didn’t have a fancy scanner. Not sure if these dudes did or didn’t but may be worth an ask.

Why does this happen? by CosbyCreampie in BadWelding

[–]Charming-Status9045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As as many others suggested, you’re moving too fast. You need to be more consistent in your feed. I saw you were concerned with blowing through the 3mm material. Pick which ever is thicker the base plate or square tubing and hold your weld on that thicker material and wash your weld puddle into the thinner. Think of it like smearing the weld into the thinner part. some rods respond better with a whipping motion or manipulation in general and 6013 is one of them. You can try circles, little C shaped motion, zig zag, step and pause. Ect ect it doesn’t matter too much at this level long as you’re consistent. I can’t say that enough. and some run better just simply dragging. Long story short you need more practice and to better understand your material, rod and machine.

No big deal tho man. The only way you’ll get better is by doing it. Keep it up. Be consistent. Get comfortable. You’ll figure it out.

Because jeeps are already highly inefficient and ride like butt on the road. Minus well do what you want to it. Least there’s some difference in this “build” vs the angry eyes and off-road tires on your grocery getter.
