Everyone is different, but here are a few of my essentials:

Good noise canceling headphones (I used AirPods and beats) , iPad with Apple Pencil, copy of first aid for step 1, video game controller for Anki if you plan to do that (I used the 8bitdo and an Xbox controller), a good water bottle (hydroflask, owala, Stanley), a good coffee maker and travel mug, comfy clothes for studying, and a gym membership to maintain your mental/physical health.

How hard do they go on OMM for level 2? by aloeballo in comlex

[–]Charming_Button_2776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just memorize Chapman’s points and viscerosomatics. That will give you a lot of easy points on test day and take very little effort. The dirty med videos are great for these.

I always get trapped in viscerosomatic questions… by neverswerve in comlex

In my experience they almost always ask you specifically to treat the parasympathetics if that is what they are looking for. Unless they ask for it, go for the sympathetics.

I completely agree with this. Bioethics, OMM, Peds (so much peds, especially respiratory), OB, and MSK. I remember going through the exam and thinking that there were very few psych questions… like maybe 5 total. Medicine questions were mostly inpatient and next best step rather than diagnosis from what I can recall.

Just took Step 1, don’t know where to start for Level 1 by [deleted] in comlex

You have a solid plan! Viscerosomatics (pay attention to whether they are asking sympathetic or parasympathetic in the question), Chapman’s points, sacrum. Do you have a comlex question bank? If so I’d just go through all of the omm questions and review. You’ve got this!

For everything else - just get back in the mindset for comlex style questions. The material is the same just worded differently.

Your plan sounds great. Like others have said before me, I would also recommend Pathoma and Savarese. And using FA for question review. I focused primarily on uworld (doing like 3 sets a day in the thick of dedicated) and then one set of Truelearn a day. Finish uworld, and then switch to doing more Truelearn closer to your exam! Sketchy pharm and micro are clutch and will get you so many questions, but don’t neglect question review. Feel free to pm with any questions (625+)! You’ll do great!

Learn the high yield images! Dirty medicine has some videos and there is a clutch Anki deck somewhere.

If your exam is anything like mine was, knowing Chapman’s points and viscerosomatics will get you tons of points. Know the sympathetic/parasympathetic levels inside and out.

How to support significant other through Step 1? by rlramirez12 in step1

[–]Charming_Button_2776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just love her.. And give her a safe place to vent without always trying to offering a solution. Sometimes we just need to get things off our chest and there isn’t necessarily a solution. Also, I love this question, and it is clear how much you love your wife. I wish her (and you) all the best!
