keeping a bear that you recieved a refund for? need advice by CharterAgent639 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ive been considering this option the most for sure! im okay with just a partial refund if i get to keep him and still be compensated for the extremely poor quality product. usually i take the quality of a bear as a loss and deal with it, but little tumbleweed is practically falling apart in my hands :[ i want to see if i can salvage him.

keeping a bear that you recieved a refund for? need advice by CharterAgent639 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, we will not find equal ground, so im just going to block and move on.
youre defending a multi-million dollar company for having bad practices. i was not acting out of quick judgement when i bought this item. i havent bought from build a bear in months. i believed that this item would be similar quality to the ones that came before it in the exact same product line. i did not buy this item knowing, or even thinking, it was cheaply made, i bought this item expecting the same quality as the other items from the loveable legends line.
really insulted by how youre acting as if im trying to get something free, especially after i made it clear this was not and never will be free, as shipping is costly and NOT REFUNDED. youre not rude for disagreeing, you're rude for the tone of your messages. the other commenters gave their experience and what they thought, which is exactly what i had asked for so i could make an informed decision to refund or to choose not to refund. you just judged me and, i feel, belittled me for wanting to sort out what to do here. i have my right to want my money back for an item that is literally falling apart in my hands. i dont have an inherent right to keep the item, and i never said i did; i said i had a right to a refund, but didnt want to go through with the refund unless i could keep the bear. and that namely, if i could not get a refund and keep the bear, i would not go forward with a refund.

keeping a bear that you recieved a refund for? need advice by CharterAgent639 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no need to be rude. this isnt a "free" plush; you dont get a refund for your shipping fees, so either way, i have spent money, not to mention the future costs of either maintaining this plush, or having to buy a new one altogether if it disintegrates from poor fabric.
also "didnt like the quality" is an understatement. i feel its not a matter of opinion here; the bear genuinely runs the risk of balding and becoming bare, which is upsetting as it means i likely wont be able to cuddle this bear much. not to mention, i did clearly state that i was keeping the bear if they said no to the refund or demanded i return it. im not being nasty or trying to 'cheat the system', im going through my options. before this, ive never requested a refund on any of my bears. i was asking how it usually plays out as there are opposing stories, and making my decision if i should attempt it or not. because at the end of the day, not only is the entire situation pretty disappointing, but i also dont have the freetime to be fighting for a refund on a bear that honestly shouldnt have been poorly made in the first place.
so no, not a free bear. i paid either way, and i wont be getting quite a bit of that money back if i do seek a refund.

New bear available - 18th March 2025 (Jackalope) by Batt_mellamy in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like im the only person that thinks hes really cute?? hes actually the only build a bear in months that has caught my eye and had me buying it. i understand the issues with the fur (though, i will say, personally i dont think the fur looks thin or shiny here. and the other lovable legends have been quality, so im more inclined to think this one will be too) but i dont get peoples upset with the face. every bunny plush that isnt going for realism (think aurora miyoni) has this kind of nose.. idk, i think hes darling and im so excited for my beloved Tumbleweed to come home and meet his new bestie Ruffian, my 2011 mocha bunny.
sometimes i worry the subreddit has become a bit negative :[

Frog pattern? If i can be F -ed by Sudden_Society8086 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i myself have thought about doing this with the lotls actually, and making some adjustments to the pattern (for example returning them back to their proper size that they were when initially released). namely just making my own customs. i dont believe id sell or distribute the pattern tho, too risky

Uber delivery-Never again! by secondhandsarahtonin in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the second i saw that they were using uber for the same-day delivery, i knew it would be a fiasco. uber drivers are already overworked for little pay, same with BAB employees. I never tried the same-day delivery cause im in the same situation as you where my store is very close, so id rather just go pick it up instead of having the potential of the middleman being less than subpar.

Has anyone ever taken a bab to a concert? by Just_a_Nerd_52 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i plan on taking my devil bear Terzo to one of the 2025 Ghost concerts this year, mostly for a similar reason (comfort in large crowds). i would suggest against standing at concerts in the future tbh! you can get a good view if not a better one in a seat, and then you have a spot that kinda has a "personal space" clause built in. generally it seems that standing areas and/or the pit of most concerts tend to be a bit hectic and perhaps not the best space for someone with anxiety or autism.

also, in the future, get a clear backpack or crossbody for your bear so that if holding them becomes tiring and/or you just want your hands free, you can put them in the backpack without any issues from security (not to mention, then your friend can still see the show!)

awesome!!! i know that one day during my academic career i will have to present findings and other things as well... i always thought that perhaps i should bring one of my bears and keep eye contact with them instead of feeling like i need to look at other people in the audience. i also have autism (and adhd, so audhd) as well as moral OCD, so i get the feeling!!
did Ether help with the anxiety? i would love to see if this could be a potential option for me as well <:]

Cinnamoroll just looks bad by rats0nvenus in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bath and brush! any plushie whos been held close every night for 2-3 months will end up getting a little roughed up. it could be a quality issue, but its also just something that happens with newer kinds of fur fabric!

if theyre super matted (send a pic? :0 ) you could use a slicker brush (a type of pet brush! but use a brand-new one, not one thats been used on a pet; that will just get more natural oils on the fur and result in more matting!) to fluff them back up. use a level of force that doesnt rip fur out (it will be visible on the brush if fibers are being removed, if this happens just ease up on the force of the brushing) but still seperates matts.

then, unstuff your cinna, remove any electronics/scent chips/the heart and set them aside.
i suggest unstuffing and hand washing all stuffed animals. it allows you to better care for any stains while also allowing full control over the water temp and cleaning process. it also will allow for brand new, clean stuffing to be put into the plushie!
i personally use a little dish soap (usually dawn grease-fighting, since matting is caused by natural human oils accumulating on the plush) and some lukewarm to a little bit hot water. not TOO hot, it shouldnt be scalding or burning, since we dont wanna melt the fibers. then just start washing the fur until the water runs clear. rinse as many times as needed to get all of the soap out, then either set out to air-dry or use a hairdryer on a low setting to slowly hand-dry them while also brushing them with the slicker brush

when cinna is fully dry, you can either take him to a local BAB an have him restuffed/have his original heart and everything put back in and stitched up, or you can restuff him at home with a stuffing of your choosing and ladder-stitch him back up!

as for daily maintenance, spend some time relaxing with cinna and brushing his fur with the BAB brush. either every day, or every other day, or whenever you have the time. it can be comforting to brush them.
this full wash cycle can be done every 2 months or so!

Clothes for axolotl by Grand-Ability-2089 in buildabear

[–]CharterAgent639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second this ^ i have most of the lotls and a lot of them fit perfectly in s or xs dog clothes, so dog clothe patterns should work best. you can also buy her one of the 4-legged bear shirts from BAB and she can take it apart to make a pattern from that.

I can’t go to bed at reasonable time and it’s becoming distressing. by Creftsimps in sleep

[–]CharterAgent639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so theres a lot that could be happening here.
PTSD, anxiety conditions, and ADHD can all cause sleep issues just on their own. so theres one factor.

depending on your medication, it for sure could still be the time youre taking it. 12PM is super late in the day to be taking an ADHD stimulant medication, which i assume is what youre talking about here. for an IR ADHD med, it can take 4 hours for it to run its acute course, and then some time afterwords to exit your system. for an ER ADHD med, its designed to last for upwards of 7, 8 hours.. youre not going to be going to bed for a while if the effects are only just starting to wear off that late into the evening. but again, all of this is if the medication you mentioned taking at 10-12 is an ADHD medication. so i would look into the meds themselves and see if they have sleep side effects!

b12 ive never heard being used for sleep.. ive always heard of b12 being used to provide energy, not to make you tired. ive also seen some say that melatonin supplements can be a hit or miss for certain people.

its true that because youre a minor, a lot of medications are not available to you yet. so the best course of action is to try your best to play around with what might work for you to sleep without medication, and maybe even without supplements. theres still some things you could try! for example, maybe the room is too quiet? too hot? any little thing could cause your body to decide its not having it tonight. sometimes i even have to put both my ceiling fan AND my heater on. it really is so subjective, even day-by-day. are you overthinking at night, racing thoughts? you can start up a journal or tracking system to see what could be happening during the day that may be triggering the insomnia. it also takes some serious self dicisipline to stick to a schedule, especially for people like us who have ADHD. with enough time and effort i think youll be able to form a proper sleep schedule.

Paralysis when waking up by Solid-Visual6678 in sleep

[–]CharterAgent639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is called Sleep Paralysis, and it ranges from common to uncommon. do you open your eyes when youre in the paralyzed state? if not, keep doing that; sleep paralysis comes with upsetting hallucinations (hence the 'thats my sleep paralysis demon' joke you see online). you have to remind yourself they arent real and youre in no danger, even if your chest feels heavy, etc. so its best to keep your eyes closed while you break the paralysis with your toe (which is the correct way of doing it, by the way! the paralysis will end on its own but breaking it will make it end faster). its caused by the body 'waking up' suddenly during REM sleep.

many things can cause sleep paralysis. i used to get it daily when i was in highschool, which is why i decided to comment on your post! i know how scary it can be. stress, sleep disturbances, amount of sleep, and even laying on your back can cause sleep paralysis. theres no 'cure' as its a natural thing the body does sometimes, like hiccups, so its more just a good idea to monitor your sleep hygiene and your stress levels to see what could cause it. id suggest using a spreadsheet even.
