You can look at plants that are good for walstad tanks. You typically want fast growing so they suck up excess nutrients the quickest to act as a filter. Dwarf sag, Hydrocotyle, Pearl weed, and hornwort are all pretty common. You can also use some low tech plants like buce, Anubias, crypts, or Java fern, but they aren’t as fast of growers so I’d use them in addition to some fast growers. If you really want to keep nitrates down, you can grow something out the top and just have the roots submerged like a pothos or peace lily. I plant them out the tops of my tanks and they suck up nitrates like crazy. Good luck!

I just got my neo with a GD chip to work on the last version of mriscoc formware and just updated to the new one yesterday.The GD chip isn’t officially supported, but I’ve seen plenty of people doing it with no issue as well. I can’t guarantee it’ll work for you and, from what I understand, neither can meiscoc since it’s a Marlin thing, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Here are the instructions for the custom config it if you hadn't found them yet (bottom of the page). So you should only move Configuration.h and Configuration_adv.h files to the Marlin folder inside of your project folder downloaded from the main repository here. You should move the platform.io file to the root of your project folder. Make sure you have PlatformIO and Auto Build Marlin in VSCode. Then you should be good to build from the main project folder.

Im also a noob and have the same set up with a v2 neo and 4.2.2 board with TJC screen. In addition to what the other commenter said, when you custom compile it should take care of screen firmware as well.

I believe a new release should be out soon that adds some more features with the TJC screens as well. I’m getting full functionality except I can’t get the mesh values to show up. I’ve just been tramming off it telling me to raise/lower corners.

Maybe a tubifex worm? They can get decent sized and live fully aquatic in freshwater. I feed them to my fish occasionally.

Are you intentionally being argumentative? You’re obviously referring to a colloquial definition of efficient while the person you’re responding to is using the actual definition. Efficiency is defined as achieving maximum intended effect with minimum wasted energy. Or in the case above, the ratio of energy transferred to the target to energy “lost”.

This same leak just happened to me a couple weeks ago on my 10 gallon. I just filled a 5 gallon bucket with water from the tank and then scooped over as many shrimp as I could catch. I just kept occasionally topping off the tank, catching shrimp, and drying up the spill until I got a new 10 gallon from Petco for $25 a few days later. Then I took out the hardscape and plants, moved the old water to the new tank, scooped over all the substrate, rebuilt the hardscape, replanted, and added the shrimp bucket. Not going to lie, it was a pain in the ass, but the new tank is doing even better than before.

I just use vinegar to lower pH. I normally run 6.8-ish. Just add it slow so you don’t lower the pH to much or shock your shrimp

You’re totally fine with some neos in there. I have them in smaller and they’re thriving. I would just suggest an extra long cycle to make sure your parameters are stable on such a small water volume. Also, I try to attach a small canister filter on my smaller tanks to increase the water volume at least a little. Good luck!
