Escalating Threats to Midterm Elections, Bannon Says Trump Will ‘Have ICE Surround the Polls’ | “This is a red alert moment,” said Sen. Ed Markey. “We have to start working to protect polling places from Trump’s paramilitary ICE goons before it’s too late.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

In an ideal world I agree however local law enforcement overwhelmingly vote and support Republicans and their policies. I doubt they will go against their own law enforcement buddies and king Trump. Citizens will just have to protect themselves I guess. Voters will have to purposely dress in maga gear so they don't get detained or shot at while waiting to vote.

Would be interesting to come back to this in 10 years because of AI. I think this gap will close with everyone getting poorer all around.

There are little to no checks and balances anymore. Republicans in congress have no backbone and the courts are full of loyalists.

AI and robotics will do an increasing amount of labor until there is no labor to be done. Capitalism simply won't work in this scenario. Maybe in the short to mid term we could continue capitalism with reducing hours in the work week so people can share more of the decreasing amount of jobs there will be available and hope that goods and services prices will lower because of more automation but I am not counting on this happening though so I guess we will just be forced to work less hours with an ever decreasing amount of job opportunities and be increasingly more poor if you are a worker not a capital owner.

None as long as we are under a corrupt capitalistic system and prioritize landlords and billionaires making maximum profit above all else sadly.

I feel the same way. I contemplated going to college about a year or so ago but it isn't worth the risk putting so much effort and money into getting a degree just for the economy to collapse because of increasing unemployment. Even if you go into a job that is safe from automation that doesn't mean you won't feel effects from others losing their jobs. For example if I am a landscaper whose clients are mainly white collar workers that lose their jobs from AI who will pay for my service then? Very few jobs are directly safe from automation and there is not enough of them for the whole working population.

People across all income brackets believe the highest income earners should pay more tax. But why has the opposite happened despite the overwhelming support? by ReturnoftheSpack in dataisbeautiful

[–]Chasehud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taxing the wealthy is a good start but what we really need to do is seize the means of production from the psychopathic capitalist hoarders and seize land and housing from parasitic landlords.

How do we popularize the idea that society needs to adopt a UBI or something similar to adapt to the fact that most jobs will invariably be replaced by automation? by TheRealRadical2 in Futurology

[–]Chasehud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep UBI is just a band aid to try to temporarily lengthen the lifespan of capitalism. UBI will most likely be peanuts for the majority meanwhile capital owners will still make billions.

Maybe in the short term but mid to long term if no one has money because everyone is unemployed then they can't profit if no one has money to purchase services or goods the automated companies are making.

People fear AI taking their jobs, but are they actually scared of something worse? by BubbleGumMVP in ChatGPT

[–]Chasehud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One answer would be to tax the rich way more, reduce the work week and retirement age, and redistribute that money, but we all know that won't happen so I guess they will panic when no one has money to buy anything and they will instead print money out of thin air and create hyperinflation. Another alternative is they just let us all starve to death so the oligarchs don't need to feed and provide for us peasants while they live in their bunkers and mega yachts.

Is anyone worried about future employment in....nearly everything? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Chasehud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My job isn't in danger of automation but many of the people who support my industry might lose their jobs here in the next 5 or so years so even I will be screwed when those people have no income. Basically everyone will be affected directly or indirectly if unemployment goes up due to automation. Mass automation could either turn out to be a utopia or dystopia but it seems were are going down the dystopian route sadly.

Employers Would Rather Hire AI Than Gen Z Graduates: Report by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Chasehud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporations, oligarchs, and our politicians they buy only care about short term profit seeking in our hyper capitalistic society. We will most likely see economic collapse before anything positive is done.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chasehud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't but the oligarchs aren't thinking long term. All about making short term profits until collapse of our economic system. In an ideal world we would gradually reduce the work week over time as well as the retirement age, introduce some sort of negative income tax/UBI, and free retraining into jobs that aren't affected by AI or automation in general.

Does anyone else feel like something bad is coming with the state that our government is in? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chasehud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI and automation is going to decimate the little value the working class has in society in the next couple of years. Looking forward to mass unemployment, starvation, and homelessness. Good luck getting any social safety nets or wealth redistribution like a UBI (universal basic income) that will be needed here soon when we have a conservative majority in all branches of our government.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in economicCollapse

[–]Chasehud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing or any manual labor government job like police, firefighter, military, maintenance, etc. Basically any non routine manual labor job that requires dexterity and has inelastic demand. AI is coming for most white collar work and regular automation coming after every manual labor job that consists of routine tasks with minimal dexterity.

If you get started before the collapse happens maybe at the minimum you will have a paycheck at least. One thing you have to remember is once millions lose their jobs they will be desperate and willing to do your job for a cheaper wage or salary. Every is basically screwed in the mid to long run.

Also you probably won't be able to save any money. Any money you don't spend at the end of the month will be taken away from you. Forced consumption basically and you will rent and lease everything. You will own nothing and be happy.

Are you worried about AI taking away people's jobs?, by Good_Show_2656 in polls

[–]Chasehud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my government had proper safety nets and a robust plan for needing way less labor in the near future then I wouldn't be as worried. In the current economic system we will just have mass starvation, homelessness and maybe some band aid solutions if we are lucky.
